Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!

QB Dennis Dixon injured his knee in practice and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks. At this time, it is not believed to be related to his injury at Oregon, but it is still cause for concern. QB Marques Tuiasosopo will start for the Jaguars in his absence, but QB Luke McCown will take a fair share of first team reps.

WHAT THE HECK?? we're setting our inactives and I see Marques Tuiasosopo is now injured... unknown injury pending a report. I had mere minutes to sign a QB to back up McCown, and Charlie Frye was my best option. Has starter experience, is mobile, decent accuracy, but with a relatively weak arm. Hopefully he doesn't have to get into the game, but I couldn't play the game with one QB. (I was tempted to use Matt Jones as my emergency QB, but the game killed his QB stats - I still might use him in a gimmick one day just for kicks.) I had to release RB Adrian Peterson to clear a roster space, he was one of a couple expendable people.

A bit too late now, but I think it would have been better to go with Johnson over Dixon. No injury problems with him, and he's got considerably more upside than Dixon.

Yeah, but I've had Johnson not that long ago, as did a few other people, and I liked Dixon in college and never drafted him and used him yet. He was pretty awesome at Oregon. Figured it was worth a shot - even though I knew his injury history was pretty spotty.

At least it's not the whole season! My trainer's not that bad, so hopefully we can keep him on the field after this...

The beat goes on, Minnesota falls to the Jaguars, 31-14!

Amidst a raging storm with 20 mph winds, the Jaguars, led by Luke McCown dismantled the Vikings in a key matchup for both teams. Overcoming an early pick-6, Luke McCown helped the Jaguars build a 28-7 lead in the 4th quarter before a TD in garbage time gave the Vikings their only offensive points. Several players were injured in the game, including rookie DE Robert Henderson, who also notched his first career sack. Injury report to follow. Punter Adam Podlesh even completed a 5 yard pass on a fake punt, although it fell 2 yards short of the first down...

Approval is at 94!!! The Jaguars record is now 6-5! Still in last place in the division though... and up next, a division rival, The Texans! The Texans won the first meeting in Jacksonville in week 4, 17-9. The Jaguars will turn to Luke McCown once again, as Dixon is still a few days from returning. The Texans only key injuries are to DT Frank Okam, who is nursing a knee injury, but should be back in 2 weeks; and Andre Davis, the 3rd wideout. Hopefully this will open up a few more lanes for Fred Taylor. (Fred Taylor also reported to ESPN this week that he's considered retirement at the end of the season. That's depressing, love that guy.

Almost ready for the game!! (prob won't play till tomorrow though.)

You can actually win 10 games in that division, and still lose all divisional games and come in 4th. I know it's happened to me before.

Great to see you start a winning streak, but why'd it have to come against my Lions and my Titans. Couldn't you have just waited to catch fire until after playing them.

All kidding aside, seems like Dixon is doing wonders for you, minus the three interception game. Sucks that he was injured, but that's football. At least you're still keeping up your winning streak. How are your playoff chances looking? You'd probably have to win out and get some help to pull out an appearance.

Re: A new Jag! (jax hc09)

When I get home and get to play again, I'll post the standings, but I'm still last in my division. I would have to pass someone to think about a wildcard. No one's catching the Colts in my division, they're still undefeated if I recall. Honestly, missing the playoffs might be a boon, since it gives me more access to better coaches.

Dixon has been really good for me, although my passing attack has been really limited due to drops... I want to address the receiver spot in the draft next year too and hopefully find a guy to pair with Avery, who's been running as my #3 this year, but will be a starter next year. I've been tinkering with the depth chart most of the season, seeing who's really making more plays for me where, seeing who's really staying on the squad next year, etc. Again, my passing game isn't where it should be - although I run as much as possible because my backs have been doing really well and my receivers haven't. Of course some guys have like 9 or 10 drops, and with the early erratic QB play I don't call a lot of passes right now. Through 11 games my top receiver has 29 receptions and everyone else is in the teens. I prob have 11 or 12 people with receptions though, we really share the ball.

I'm also not getting enough pass rush, as my leading sacker has 4 or 5. My stats don't exactly line up to simmed stats, though I have felt that the sliders I'm using are giving me realistic games. (I play them all)

All in all though I'm happy. I think we got past some of our tough games and were able to win some of the easy ones lately. Finally getting some of the playbook learned has been key. I always struggle early because so many guys don't know anything with the playbook. Of course, I've still have Texans-Bears-Packers-Colts-Ravens to go... I might just make it to 9-7, but I'm feeling 8-8. In NFL History, the Jags went 5-11 that year, so I'm already ahead of the game!

Side note: I Bet Tuiasosopo is bummed, with Dixon out, it's his chance to try to get his starting gig back - although I'm sure he can see the writing on the wall... but since Tui got mysteriously hurt after we were already done with practices for the week, he won't be back before Dixon...

No, not really. I'm kind of old school. I've always thought Fred was one of the best backs of his time and wanted to use him. He's one of the Jags greatest players and I couldn't see cutting him. I've got a few players like him that I've just loved watching and like to get on my team 'cause they can still perform really well.

MJD is kind of a loud mouthed punk. He got off scot-free on his most recent offseason incident, I don't mind finding his replacement.

                    Thanks for following!

Jacksonville avenges loss to Texans on MNF!

The last time these two teams met, Houston
took the ball away 4 times, and multiple miscues by the Jaguars led to a Texans victory. Travis Henry was held to 36 yards in that game, a number he nearly doubled on his first carry during the rematch. Rashean Mathis held Andre Johnson to one catch, and apart from a blown coverage on a long Jacoby Jones TD reception, the passing game of the Texans went nowhere.

Meanwhile, the Jaguars offense was able to connect on several key plays to keep drives moving. Legedu Naanee had a season-high 6 receptions to pace the team, while the run game continued its dominance.

Several Jaguars players were knocked out of the game, Robert Henderson, John Henderson, Greg Jones, Champ Warren and Cory Boyd. Injury reports are pending.

This Monday Night game was a goal! Approval up to 95!!

RB Cory Boyd has strain and will miss 2-3 weeks.

FB Greg Jones has a severe hamstring injury and will miss 5-6 weeks. That's the rest of the season. I decided not to put him on IR yet, maybe there will be a miracle. I have the roster space. I signed veteran FB Cory Schlesinger to take his spot. Cory's 36, but he's a very good FB, decent carrying skills, great blocker. His health is 86, so no complaints there! Right now Greg's a Pro Bowl selection, not sure if he'll keep it through the rest of the season...

DT John Henderson will miss 2-3 weeks. This is prob his last season here. He's great when he's in the lineup, but he gets knocked out of almost every game, and has missed several weeks over the year.

The other injured players are all back, and Dixon should be back in 2 days, enough time to practice and get back on the field. McCown's been good, but Dixon really started this amazing streak, so he's going back in there.

Up next, the Jaguars take their 7-5 record to Chicago to face the 7-5 Bears, who lead the NFC North.

Former Jaguars QB David Garrard leads the Bears. Veteran RB Michael Pittman leads the rushing attack, and is spelled by RB Chris Taylor. Former first round pick Cedric Benson is 3rd. Devin Hester starts at wideout, along with rookie WR DeSeasn Jackson. WR Mark Bradley and rookies Will Franklin and Keenan Burton round out the receiving corps.

Adewale Ogunleye and Mark Anderson are the ends, with Tommie Harris and rookie LeTroy Guion at DT. Rookie DT Nick Hayden is the reserve. Lance Briggs, Hunter Hillenmeyer and Brian Urlacher give the Bears a tremendous linebacking group. Vasher and Tillman are a great pair of corners. Veteran FS Mike Brown is having a solid year, and veteran SS Jay Bellamy is starting even though he's 36 and seems to have lost a step. He's mentoring rookie SS Tom Zbikowski to be his replacement next year it seems.

So, the playoffs are shaping up. Didn't realize I was that close, although I'm pretty sure no one's catching the Titans and Texans. I just hope we can beat the Bears this weekend. Nothing's worse than cutting/trading/releasing a starting QB, then watching him not only beat you, but take his team into the playoffs while you sit at home come January!!

Jaguars find out Bears are dangerous when defending their home...

Jacksonville went to Chicago to face former QB David Garrard and the NFC North leading Bears, and found out they still have a long way to go; losing a tough game that all but ends any postseason hopes for the Jaguars.

Chicago kicker Robbie Gould was a machine, hitting 5 field goals to pull the game away, while Jacksonville kicker Josh Scobee missed a critical kick that could have altered the direction of the 4th quarter.

The Jagaurs lost several key players once again, this time losing:
RB Fred Taylor (we lost Boyd the week before, so Felix Jones was my only back from halftime on. He was hurt running a route. The ball wasn't even thrown to him.
QB Dennis Dixon at the end of the 3rd quarter.
SS Brandon McGowan (starter and current pro bowl nominee)
                            CB Rashean Mathis (top corner)
LT Nat Dorsey (my backup LT and one of only 2 reserve OL suited up)

Between the loss and one defining moment I declined, my approval plummets to 66!

By some stroke of good fortune, all 5 players that were knocked out of the game will only miss between 1-3 days - so all of them should be back!

Up next, the Packers!! The Packers are led by Daunte Culpepper (with Andre Woodson #2 and Rodgers #3) Culpepper was hurt in week 4 and missed 7 games. So he and Woodson each played in 7 games - they had similar stats - 9-10 tds, 10-11 picks, 11-1200 yds... So there def won't be a drop-off if Culpepper goes down, although Culpepper is a good scrambler.

Martellus Bennett was the other major draft choice on offense, as he'll still be a factor even as the #2 tight end. Ryan Grant is the running back, Jennings, Driver, Jones, and Ruvell Martin are a great group of wideouts.

Defensively, Aaron Kampman and Darren Howard are the starting DEs. Red Bryant was a great hidden gem in the draft and starts at DT with Justin Harrell.

The Bears are still in first, despite a loss this weekend - so a win by the Packers puts them in a tie for first for the division. The Jaguars are all but out, but are sure to fight till they hear the bell.

Well, Fred Taylor and Cory Boyd aren't healthy enough for the game. It's game day and I'm in a bind. Even though I didn't want to take the salary hit this year, I need to release Reggie Hayward to open a roster space to sign a running back. I can't go in with just Felix Jones. I had to release one more because of inactives and needing space, so I also released Luke McCown, his disastrous performance when Dixon went down, coupled with his repeated hit to my approval when I don't give him a new contract is too much. I have 3 games left, Dixon is back, and if something happens this week Frye will take over. After that Tui will back back I'll have the offseason to evaluate my quarterbacks.

Luke McCown signed with Tennessee (bastard!) where he will back up Vince Young. Kerry Collins is the #3.

                              Reggie Hayward
signed with the Chiefs where he will start at RE over Turk McBride.

I signed Ciatrick Fason - he's young and talented, pretty tough and had the highest injury/stamina combo among non-rookies available. I needed to know whoever I signed was going to be able to handle a lot of carries and not get hurt or wimp out. Felix Jones will start, but I can't not have a backup running back this week.

Three games left for the season - today's game vs the Packers at home, then the Colts come to Jacksonville and the finale in Baltimore. Time to tell the team to man up and finish strong!!

Defense rules the day in Jacksonville as the Jaguars are routed, 35-2

The storms in Jacksonville were nothing compared to the destruction brought about by the Green Bay Packers defense Sunday afternoon. After Culpepper led the offense on 2 scoring drives, the defense took over, scoring 3 touchdowns of their own en route to a 35-2 rout of the Jaguars.

Al Harris started things off with a pick six off Dennis Dixon, and then grabbed a second one soon after. Charles Woodson also took one to the house before both teams started putting reserves in the game come the 4th quarter.

The Jaguars defense got a little scoring in of their own when Packers RB Vernand Morency was tackled in the end zone by Daryl Smith for a safety.

The win puts the Packers in a tie for first place in the NFC North, while the Jaguars loss ends any hope for a playoff bid. Several Jaguars were knocked out of the game... including newly signed running back Ciatrick Fason (who I signed BECAUSE of his really high INJ rating.)

Another stupid "Defining Moment" (go for it on 4th while I'm on my on 32, in the SECOND QUARTER) plus the loss kills my approval.

                                Current Approval: 34

Rookie WR Donnie Avery tore his triceps and is out for the season.
He finishes his rookie campaign with 18 receptions for 285 yards and 5 TDs.

The Jaguars have signed WR Keenan McCardell to a 1 yr contract. He's going to be a "feel good" story, returning to the franchise where he had his most success. He'll be 5th string regardless - at least he can catch.

The Colts are on deck... They've already clinched the division, but I doubt they're going to rest any starters. WR Marvin Harrison is the only notable injury, though he should be back next week.

We're still missing John Henderson, RG Champ Warren, RB Cory Boyd, and FB Greg Jones.

7-7 ... still a chance for a winning record... all we have to do is beat the Colts and the ravens (in Baltimore) a coach can dream, right?
