Ya know, I really hate these types of games. A win by a blowout feels almost.....dirty. I would love for every game to be decided by 10 points or less, but I understand that even with the best sliders flukes will happen. Besides all of my guys, even the bench warmers, being on a tear all night long, there was one main reason why my team won by such a large margin: the 2-3 Matchup Zone. Beyond a doubt this is the worst defense known to man because it is the easiest to exploit. My team's plays have a lot of movement off the ball handler. Because of this, the 2-3 Matchup Zone is constantly moving out of the zone positions, then hurrying back into the zone position, then doing it all over again. It opens up dozens of lanes that the guards can drive a Mack truck through and draw fouls. TCU had 20 fouls total in the game, 12 in the second half. Most of their starters weren't on the floor for more than 8-10 minutes because of this. And since they had their weaker guys in, my starters were able to score at will. The score at halftime was 46-36 (this with my starters sitting between 6-8 minutes each), and by the 10 minute mark in the second half I was up by 30 and had my starters on the bench to stay (they averaged 18.8 minutes on the floor). Even with my poor players in there we got up by as much as 37 with 8 minutes left. Then TCU made a small run but were unable to decrease the lead to less than 27 for the rest of the game. I would've hated to see what the final score would've been had my starters gotten their usual amount of playing time (between 27-32 minutes a game).

Now, keep in mind that this is, like I said, nothing but a fluke. Piper's sliders are still the best out there for coach mode (and are not bad for normal games either) and a game like this will happen with ANY slider set sometime or another. Combine that with the simplicity of exploiting a horrible defense and that sometime turned out to be now Ah well. You'd think my puppy had died or something with how horribly disappointed I am with this game.....lol

The Lions played horribly all night long. I have no idea how we ended up getting the game so close at the end with how poor our play was. The first half was a disaster. We got down by as much as 19 until the final 4 minutes or so of the half, when we surged back a bit to go into the locker room down by 10. The second half started off as bad as the first. The boys of Arkansas State were electric all night long. They reminded me a lot of my Lions in the previous game. We got down by as much as 23 at one point before some shots began falling for us. During the last few minutes of the game my guys got heated up and closed the gap to within 2 by the 1 minute mark. Of course we started intentional fouling to stop the clock, forcing Arkansas State's guys to win it at the line. It SHOULD have worked too; they had only been 3-7 from the charity stripe up until that point. But they hit a few clutch free throws, and my guys picked the wrong time to go sour again. We simply couldn't get our foot in the door in that final minute and ended up going home with a 5 point loss.

This game was really won on the boards. I've come to expect that we will almost never come out on top when it comes to rebounding, mostly due to our lack of offensive boards, but we usually keep it reasonably close with our solid defensive rebounding. But not this night. We were far outclassed in the low post by State's superior big men tonight. The most surprising stat for this game: Brown was my assist leader with 8. How is that possible when he (as usual) would shoot the ball every time it touched his hands? He was 11-31 for the night.

This was a really close game, closer than the final score indicates. Both teams matched up well (I had the better SG and PF, they the better SF and C) and played solid ball. Neither team could really break out in the first half, both of us battling back and forth and at best jumping to small 5 or 7 point leads. We ended up going into the half all knotted up at 32. The second half was much of the same, trading small leads back and forth most of the game. Neither Byrd nor Brown were really heating up for my Lions, but they were playing well enough to keep us in the game. Then around the 5 or 6 minute mark Brown went on a tear. I would call a PF Comeback or Post Option PF play, trying to battle in the paint and draw some fouls, but Brown would just ignore it and pop from three. At one point he had hit four 3's in a row and we jumped out to a 7 point lead. And that is where we made our stand for the final minutes. Every time the Delta Devils would hit a shot or two and see some daylight, we would answer right back. The buzzer sounded to a Golden Lion victory by 7. ROAR!

The player I'm most proud of: Martese Coleman. He has a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio thus far into the season, which is pretty darned impressive if you ask me. And even better than that, he gets a steal back for every turnover he makes. That's exactly the type of play I expect out of my guy running the point, efficiency. His stat line is: 8.6 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 7.2 APG, 1.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 1.8 TOPG, 1.9 FPG while averaging 26.8 MPG.

Looks like you've pretty much got coach mode down. A lot more success in your first year than I had. I finally won a meaningful game in my 2nd year, beating #17 Texas Tech. I also got paired up against Memphis twice, which I'm not complaining about (one is a tournament, I got stuck with 3 of those somehow).

This was a well played game by both sides. My only complaint is that it was running hot and cold too much. The first half was the more exciting of the two, with both teams jumping to early leads. We would go on a 2-3 minute hot spell, then go cold as they had the same. By my boys, per usual, had a good 5-6 minute hot spell to end the half. We went into the locker room up by 10, 40-30. But A&M came out fired up and quickly cut that lead away, where it once again became a chess match. Both of us would jump out to a lead only to go cold as the other team would battle back. Brown never hit his stride like he usually does, but I got a very productive game out of Williams and Gunter to counter that. My Lions finally found some consistancy in the closing 4 minutes when we fought our way to a 8 point lead that we wouldn't let go of. Byrd and Gunter both finished with double-doubles (16 PTS 10 REB and 14 PTS 13 REB respectively), with Brown nearly getting one (17 PTS 9 AST) and Williams having a very solid performance (13 PTS 3 REB 3 AST 2 BLK). ROAR!

Way to go cubsfan! Taking down Texas Tech is a VERY significant win for our small school. Considering how poorly I played against Baylor, I definitely think you have the advantage on me there. I don't think I have coach mode down, but I would like to think I am doing very well with the tools available to me. At best I have this particular team down, and even that would be a stretch

This game really surprised me. I walked into it expecting at the least a loss, more likely a blowout on Northern Arizona's part. I mean, heck, look at their Off, Sht, and Reb ratings! But they taught me two very important things: 1) When your defense isn't up to snuff, even my bench guys (who played the majority of the game due to foul trouble) can score on you at will; and 2) if you take absolute horrible shots, all the advantage in offense and shooting will not make up for it. It also leads to your guys being out of position and makes your rebounding advantage null and void as well.

We jumped out to an early 5 point lead and kept it till around the 10 minute mark. They finally battled back and turned the game into a chess match for a few minutes, with the lead being exchanged back and forth. But in the last 4 or 5 minutes of the half my Lions, as usual, got on a hot streak. We ended up going into the half with a comfy 10 point lead. The only thing the Lumberjacks did extremely well in this game was penetrating and drawing fouls. That kept my starters out of most of the game. But my bench really stepped up and gave me a lot of production. I never really had to sweat during the second half with my boys grabbing a 17 point lead fairly early on and keeping it for most of regulation. Northern Arizona did battle back with a spectacular sharpshooting display by #22, who was automatic from beyond the arc all night long. They got as close as 5 points back by the 3 minute mark, but my guys stepped into overdrive and never looked back. We walked away with an easy 9 point win. ROAR!

Like I said, my bench really stepped up and covered for my foul-laden starters. Fellows took charge and ended the night with close to a double-double (14 PTS 8 REB 1 AST 2 BLK), while Dobbins and Brooks both gave me some solid numbers (4 PTS 4 REB 1 STL and 8 PTS 3 REB 3 AST respectively). To top that the worst player on my team, Olomo, had a career night with a stat line of 12 PTS 4 REB 3 AST 1 STL in his 14 MIN on the floor.

Alabama State put forth a solid effort and gave me a much better game than the score indicates. They played a very low-key, slow down type of game, something I haven't seen very often this far into the season. And for the first half it worked remarkably well. They stayed in the game and made me fight for every point my boys got. The score at the end of the first was 30-24, a mere 6 point lead. I have to give them a lot of props for that. But in the second half my Lions just broke out and ran all over them. We shot forth to a 25 point lead within 8 minutes and never looked back. I was a bit disappointed because the first half had me hoping for a good old-fashioned brawl with the game ending 55-51 or something like that. Unfortunately that wasn't meant to be as my guys coasted to a 69-48 thrashing of the Hornets. ROAR!

Brown and Byrd gave me outstanding performances as I have come to expect out of them. After all they are the guys my offense runs through. Brown (21 PTS 4 REB 1 AST) was electric from long range while Byrd (17 PTS 6 REB 2 STL 1 BLK) controlled the paint. And I once again got a surprising effort from Olomo (10 PTS 5 REB 1 AST in 10 MIN) off the bench. He is slowly trying to emerge as my standout 6th man, but still has to show me more consistency before he'll knock Fellows (4 PTS 4 REB 1 AST 1 BLK in 11 MIN) from that perch.

My Lions easily played the best ball this season in this game. Their effort was extraordinary. We were firing on all cylinders. But even worse for the Braves was the fact that they couldn't have thrown the ball into the ocean starting off. It was quite pathetic. Alcorn shot 13.8% from the floor for the first half, and so we coasted into the locker room with a very comfy 29 point lead, 42-13. Simply because I refused to have a 50 point blowout, I started the 2nd half with my bench and kept them in there for almost the entire game. Alcorn battled their way back into it, thanks mostly to a 2-2-1 Zone Press coming after every basket, and finally worked my lead down to 9 with three minutes remaining. I finally broke down and brought my starters back in there. I mean, sure I want them to get back in the game, but that doesn't mean I want them to have a legitimate chance at winning. ;o) My boys did their jobs well and finished them off with a 15 point win. ROAR!

Byrd (10 PTS 6 REB 4 AST 1 BLK) had a surprisingly mediocre game stat-wise, seeming to focus more on the little things while he was in there. Brown (26 PTS 8 REB 2 AST 3 STL) once again had a spectacular game, and Gunter (14 PTS 10 REB 2 STL 1 BLK) really stepped up to fill Byrd's absence on the offensive side of things. I was also able to count on Olomo (8 PTS 6 REB in 11 MIN) to put forth a solid performance once again and I'm learning just how much I am able to count on him.

THREAD UPDATE: I've been having internet issues the past 36 hours or so. Apparently I've picked up a virus or something that deleted my internet connection. Antivirus and antispyware software hasn't helped thus far, and I'm nearing the end of my ideas as to how to fix it. So updates will likely be happening less often until I can figure out a way to get rid of this. *prays he doesn't have to reformat*

This game would be the polar opposite of the game against Alcorn State. It was quite simply the worst performance I have seen by two teams ever. The Panthers played badly, but unfortunately my Lions played even worse. Prairie View jumped out to a quick 6 point lead, and I just knew this wasn't going to be our game. Nobody, and I do mean nobody, could hit a shot for 99% of the night. Prairie View played a fantastic 3-2 Zone D, and it crippled my team. I tried to work it inside, and as expected it would collapse the D on that player, effectively making it a 5-on-1 in the paint. But instead of dishing the rock outside for an easy three, my guys would commit to the awful shot with five hands in their face. We slinked into halftime down by 10, 18-28. We came out and played just as poorly in the second half, but the Panthers didn't play much better. They got up by 17 quickly and then went cold. I would whittle away at their lead, but every time it hit single digits they would make a three while double-covered, or pop the 19 foot turnaround and miraculously make it. With about 2 minutes lefti n the game, my guys apparently started to get warmed up. Brown hit a couple threes and got their lead down to 4 with a minute left in regulation. So I had my guys start fouling figuring I should have at least a 50/50 shot of winning as they had struggled from the charity stripe all night long. But I have to admit that they picked the perfect time to showcase their free throw skills, cause they didn't miss for the remainder of the game. We got as close as within 1 with 1.9 seconds remaining and then fouled, and of course they sunk the shots like they were nothing. Its unfortunate this game doesn't have any inbounds plays to choose from on the coach's clipboard, as with 1.4 seconds we MAY have been able to get a shot off and tie it. But we ended up losing the game by 3, 61-64.

Byrd (14 PTS 13 REB 2 AST 1 STL) had an okay night with a double-double, and Brown (20 PTS 6 REB 1 AST 2 STL) put forth a solid effort in the closing minutes, but everyone else was lackluster. I am ashamed with how poorly we played tonight and hope this doesn't happen again this season.

The player I'm most proud of:

Clay Olomo. He's been doing great coming off the bench and is establishing himself as my 6th man, with possible exception of Johnny Fellows. The most amazing thing about this is that he is a Senior with a pitiful overall rating of 48. He has really been playing above his ratings, and for this he deserves recognition. His stat line is as follows: 4.0 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 0.6 APG, 0.2 SPG, .562 FG% (18-32) all in 7.6 MPG off the bench.

Don't feel too bad about the TCU blowout. Consider that if you take out their Rebounding Rating, their Overall drops to about even with yours. Then with their starters on the bench and your FG%, I can believe how you could run them out of the gym.

                          It does feel dirty though...

Yeah, exactly. I'm certainly not complaining about winning, but I just don't like to win that way. Like you said, it just feels dirty. I would be very happy for every game to be a matter of 10 or less points, and I'd be in love if it was only 5 or less points. Those are the wins (and losses) that you feel the best about, because you really had to earn them. Take the Prairie View game for example. My team played horribly for about 33 of the 36 minutes, and I ended up losing by 3. But it is still probably the best game I've played so far this season. Yes it was frustrating, but it was frustrating in a fun sorta way. I had to adjust my style a lot to counter their 3-2 Zone (which I never fully did), I had to wait around for them to switch up to a ManD if I wanted to get a decent look from three......it was a struggle, but it was rewarding I couldn't ask for a more fun game.

This was a great game! I absolutely loved it. Both teams played a very solid game and it turned into a nail-biter at the end. The first half my Lions had the game well in hand. The only problem they had was #12, who was shooting lights-out from everywhere on the court (he had 20 PTS in the first half alone). We went into the locker room with our heads held high and a 13 point lead, 38-23. But the Tigers came out of the half with a grim determination. They quickly slashed away my lead and kept it within 5 points for the remainder of the game. But my guys came through in the clutch like they always do and kept the win just out of Texas Southern's reach. The Tigers fought tooth and nail for the final minute, sending my boys to the line if we wanted to win the game. We hit a few key free throws and rode it to a 4 point victory, 71-67. ROAR!

Brown (20 PTS 6 REB 3 AST 2 STL 1 BLK) lead the team and had an impressive stat line this game. Gunter (10 PTS 10 REB) scored another double-double, with Byrd (18 PTS 9 REB 3 AST 3 STL) nearly joining him. I didn't have any outstanding players come off the bench for this game, but Patterson (4 PTS 2-2 from the field) gave us a bit of a boost with 100% FG% in 6 MIN on the floor.
