Cardinals Win Conference USA Tournament 83-82 in 2 OT Thriller--Calipari Ejected:

AP -Louisville - The #12 Louisville Cardinals (28-2), won their first Conference USA Tournament under Head Coach Brian Keller by defeating second seeded #15 Memphis (22-7) 83-82 in a double overtime thriller. Neither team held a lead of more than 6 points for the entire game - and it took a heart stopping two buzzer beating shots to decide the outcome.

Louisville entered halftime with a 4 point lead 48-44 powered by the high scoring backcourt tandem of Senior point guard Dameon Lane and Junior shooting guard Ron Meredith. The two combined for 34 of the Cardinals 48 first half points with Lane finishing the game with 35 points and a career high 16 assists, and Meredith leading all scorers with 36 points. No other Cardinal player finished with more than 4 points.

"They put us on their backs and carried us," said Louisville Coach Keller, "Big shot after big shot those guys hit". It was a Lane jumper from the right baseline as the buzzer sounded that sent the game into the first OT tied at 64 apiece. It took about five minutes for the officials to review the play and count the basket to the wild cheers of the Louisville fans and an angry Memphis Tiger Coach John Calipari who would later be ejected just before the end of the game. "He [Lane] was out of bounds, look at the tape and you'll see he stepped out before he even got the shot off" said an irate Calipari as he walked out of the post game press conference.

It took a three pointer by Memphis star forward Alec Smith from 25 feet seconds before the buzzer to push the game into a second overtime. "Alec got that shot a little deeper than we had drawn it up, but thats only because one of the Louisville players tipped the ball" said Calipari.

The game ended when in the second overtime Louisville's Meredith hit a running one hander through the lane with just under 10 seconds remaining to give Louisville an 83-82 lead. Without any timeout remaining Calipari shouted for Senior point guard Mathew Ferguson to get the inbounds and get a shot off. Ferguson received the ball and raced down court weaving through the out of position Cardinal defense. It took a heroic effort from Junior reserve guard Michael Jennings to take a last second step into the lane to draw a charge on Ferguson to end the game. Calipari, believing that Ferguson was fouled on a blocking call against Jennings erupted on the sideling when Official Johnny Garrison signaled a charge on Ferguson with 1.2 seconds remaining. After a brief tirade Coach Calipari was ejected.

"Some of the worst officiating i have ever seen in college basketball. For the officials to decide a game the way they did is unexcusable" said a visibly angry Calipari before storming out of the post game press conference.

"It's a great win and we hope to find success in the NCAA Tournament," said Coach Keller.

The Louisville Cardinals await their seed in the Tournament.

Three Seed Louisville's Coach Keller Gets Rematch with Vandy:

AP-Midwest Regional -- The third seeded Louisville Cardinals and Coach Brian Keller will face fourteen seeded Vanderbilt. Keller lost to Vandy 108-92 in his second season at Long Island University in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament three years ago. "I look forward to the opportunity to go compete against a great Vanderbilt program," said Keller. When asked the difference between then and now Keller commented, "Plenty of things-our LIU teams were really excellent teams but we did not get the attention we deserved until my last season there. Here at Louisville we are 29-2 and ranked in the Top 10 in the nation. We are a three seed. When i was at LIU i believe Vandy was the three seed".

          MIDWEST PREVIEW:
          #3 Louisville Cardinals (#10, 29-2, 15-1 C-USA)
Head Coach: Brian Keller, First Season
          VS.
          #14 Vanderbilt Commodores (18-13, 7-9 SEC)

For Louisville to win: Stop Senior point guard Chris Simpson. As a freshmen Simpson single handedly defeated Keller's LIU Blackbird team with 34 points and 12 assists. Since that season Simpson has been named first team All-SEC three times. No other Commodore player saw significant minutes when LIU lost to Vandy. Louisville must keep Soph center Rafael Garner off the boards. Garner averages 9.9 rpg, 5 more than any other Vandy player.

For Vandy to win: Force someone other than Louisville's outstanding backcourt players [Lane and Meredith] to score. Lane and Meredith have the ability to carry the team while other Cardinals struggle. Keep Louisville's larger, better rebounding frontcourt off the glass. Handle the Louisville pressure. Cardinals can go 9 deep and do not hesitate to rotate players if they are successful forcing turnovers.

          OTHER NEWS:
LIU will face 6th seeded UCLA in the East region as an 11th seed.

Cardinals Advance Knock Commodores Out of 64:

AP-Indianapolis- Third seeded Louisville defeated Vanderbilt 69-59 in the Opening Round of the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis. In a mathcup of spectacular Senior point guards Louisville's Dameon Lane just barely edged Vandy's Chris Simpson. Both guards had their respective moments with Lane pressuring Simpson to give up the ball, forcing him to foul out with only ten points, but a game-high 12 assists. It was two back-breaking three pointers from the top of the key by Lane with Simpson draped all over him that punctuated a late 10-0 run that allowed Louisville to pull away with just under three minutes remaining.

Lane finished with 10 points and the other half of the highly touted Louisville backcourt, Ron Meredith, scored only 11. It was reserve Junior swingman Michael Jennings who provided the spark for the Cardinals scoring 12 points, grabbing 6 boards, and getting 5 steals. Senior co-captain Jud Dunn played only 4 minutes after suffering a concussion early in the first half. His status is questionable for Saturday's second round match-up. Soph center Craig Pearson filled in for Dunn with 7 points, 11 boards, and 3 blocked shots.

Louisville Ends Mississippi State's Tournament Run -- Moves On to the Sweet Sixteen:

AP-Indianapolis- Louisville danced its way to the Sweet 16 by defeating Mississippi State 80-72, in the second round of the Midwest Region on Saturday. The Cardinals, who played with two first time starters, battled back from a 12 point halftime deficit to knock off Miss. St. Senior point guard Dameon Lane scored 15 of his 17 in the second half including 11 straight with just under two minutes remaining. Lane hit two three pointers and was 5 of 7 from the line to ensure the win.

Junior swingman Michael Jennings had 13 points in his first start this season, and Soph center Craig Pearson played the first 30 minutes for injured Senior starter Jud Dunn and held 7'2 Miss State center Lester Shannon to only 8 points. Pearson scored 7 points and had 11 boards. Dunn played a crucial role in erasing a 12 point Miss State lead. He scored 8 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in only 8 minutes after entering the game with only 10 minutes remaining.

"I told Coach this could be my last game. I wasn't gonna let them beat us and me not play any minutes," said Dunn. "He did a great job in the limited minutes he played. He gave a real boost in the middle of our late run with his offensive rebounding," said Louisville Coach Brian Keller.

The Cardinals face seventh seeded Colorado who routed two seed Georgetown 69-34. The winner of Colorado/Louisville faces the winner of Duke/Middle Tennessee for a place in the Final Four.

Colorado No Match For Louisville -- Cardinals to Face Blue Devils in Elite 8 :

AP-Minneapolis -- Louisville Senior point guard Dameon Lane is slowly turning heads as this tournament's most exciting player. Lane led the Cardinals from tip-off scoring 8 straight points including a three pointer, an and one, and a breakaway lay-up to key a 14-0 Louisville run to start the game. The Cardinals beat an overmached Colorado Buffalo team 79-55 to advance to the Elite 8. No Buffalo player scored in double figures as Colorado like many other teams this season struggled to find an answer to the problem of Louisville's backcourt.

"Louisville has to be one of the best teams in terms of guard play I have ever seen. You needs guards to win in this tournament and they have three excellent ones," said Colorado Coach Ricardo Patton.

Lane finished with 19 points, and Junior guards Michael Jennings and Ron Meredith added 15 and 10 points apiece. Freshmen power forward Trace Patton continued his strong play down low posting his third straight double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

                    Midwest Regional Final Preview:

ESPN College Basketball 2night: Minneapolis, Minnesota --

Brad Nessler: The top seed #2 Duke Blue Devils face the third seeded #10 Louisville Cardinals here at the Metrodome this evening. Duke has been to the Final Four the last five years and have won 3 of the last 5 National Championships. Louisville has failed to make the Tournament since 2002 and are playing inspired basketball under first year coach Brian Keller....Lets see what Dicky V and Jay Bilas have to say on this Elite 8 matchup:

Dick Vitale: The Dukies are unnnnbelievable baybee!-scoring over ONE HUNDRED points per game in the Tournament! They're high octane, high risers baybee! Howbout Ben Curtis the Super Senior averaging twenty four points, eight dimes and four rebounds he can really pass the rock. Sen-sational. Thats ACC basketball baybe!

Jay Bilas: Duke is a proven team with four senior starters and a hall of fame coach. But they have a tough matchup in Louisville. The Cardinals have an experienced backcourt with Senior guard Dameon Lane and two very solid Juniors in Jennings and Meredith. Many people overlook the Cardinal frontcourt they have some size advantage with Dunn, if he's healthy and solid freshmen Trace Patton.

Brad Nessler: So who do you think will win?

Dicky V: I love those Dukies. Coach K will have'em jumping in Durham baybee, at Cameron the crazies will be rocking!!!

Jay Bilas: I like Duke. I think their experience will be a little too much but don't under-estimate Louisville Coach Brian Keller. This is the fourth straight year he's put a team in the Tournament and made the Sweet 16 just last season with LIU. But I am going to go with Duke.

Brad Nessler: Thank you gentleman. See you and one of these two great teams at the Final Four.

                    OTHER MATCHUPS:

Blue Devils Out, Cardinals in the Final Four:

Minneapolis, Minnesota -- The Louisville Cardinals are going to the Final Four. Louisville defeated Duke 90-80 to win the Midwest Region and earn a spot in the Final Four. The Cardinals fought back from double digit deficits on three separate occassions to overcome the Tournament tested Blue Devils. Duke opened the game with 12 straight points led by point guard Jim Bailey. Bailey finished with 17 points and 8 assists. Duke held leads of 22-10 and a 41-30 halftime lead.

"We were a little nervous coming out. Tentative with the ball, not as aggressive as we usually are" said Louisville Coach Brian Keller. The Cardinals got superb play from their three guard backcourt. Junior Ron Meredith scored 16 points, including 10 striaght at one point in the first half to pull the Cardinals to within one point of the Blue Devils at 32-30, before Duke ended the half with a 9-0 run.

The second half saw Coach K's Duke team pull ahead by 16 with just under 10 minutes remaining when Louisville Senior point guard Dameon Lane and Junior Michael Jennings scored 25 points in a 26-10 run to pull the Cardinals even at 56. Lane finished with 17 points and Jennings a career high 25.

Just before their 26-10 run Senior center Jud Dunn left the game after suffering his second concussion. "It was obviously a charge on Murphy [from Duke]. He ran down the middle of the lane and smashed Jud right in the mouth" said Lane. "I think Murphy was angry about Dunn's block," said Lane. Three plays earlier Dunn came from the weak side and blocked Murphy's shot from right in front of the basket off the backboard and almost to halfcourt where Lane scooped it up and laid it in beginning the Cardinal comeback.

"I am excited to be going to my first Final Four. Our players deserve it and now its a new season. Two wins. just two more wins," said Louisville's Keller still dripping from the gatorade shower he recieved from Soph center Smackie Adkins, and wearing the Metrodome's net around his neck.

                      FINAL FOUR:
                      (1) Connecticut vs (3) Louisville
                      (1) Georgia Tech vs (10) Oregon

                      Elite 8:

or maybe you can tell me where/how you made your football stat tracker and maybe i can find a way to edit it for basketball games....

hey marine, the stat tracker for NCAA football i found through another message board a while back. It was made by someone else - not me - so i have no idea how it works - i'm pretty useless when it comes to computer stuff. it's definitely one of the coolest things i've come across in a long time. here's the link to the page:

i'm pretty sure if you email the guy he would/could help you out making one for College basketball. i would guess one for college basketball would be easier only 12 players a season as opposed to 53... if you have any success let me know i'd love to use it.
