    HIGH POINT HIRES NEW COACH

High Point University hired a new men's basketball coach Wednesday. The Panthers new coach is Lewis Witherspoon, a former assistant on Phil Jackson's Los Angeles Lakers staff. When asked about his new position, he commented by saying this, "I can't wait to get my head coaching career started, and I am very thankful the great people here at High Point are allowing me to do that." He inherits a team that over the years has been very mediocre. High Point hopes this exciting, young coach will lead them to the promised land of the NCAA tournament.

NOTE: Until I become better at the game I will be playing on All-Conference and 13 min halves.

    WITHERSPOON DEBUTS WITH LOSS

The High Point Panthers opened up their 2002-2003 season with a dissapointing loss to the NAU Lumberjacks 62-46. The only bright spot for the team was junior center Randy Crasse-Freeman. He kept the team in it with 18 points and 10 rebounds, but his efforts were not enough. The big play of the game was NAU shooting guard Dante Schmidt hitting a 3 with 7 minutes left to play. It put the Lumberjacks up 11 (51-38) and they were there to stay. The Panthers never threatened after that. New coach Lewis Witherspoon commented with this, "Tonight we didn't play our game, we tried to play with their high tempo style, and in result we got blown out. If we play our type of half court basketball, we should compete in more games."

      PANTHERS REBOUND AGAINST GARDEN ST.

Coming off a dissapointing home loss to NAU, the High Point Panthers won their first road game 55-38 over Garden St. College. It was an all around great game for the Panthers who got stellar performances from the whole starting lineup. C Randy Crasse-Freeman, who the boys at Sega Sports gave a 67 rating, has provend to be an asset to the team on both ends of the court. He added 22 points and 11 rebounds and had 5 blocks on the defensive end. High Point moves to 1-1 on the young season. Next up is a home game versus a good Clemson team.

        PANTHERS UPSET CLEMSON

In High Point's best game played to date, the Panthers knocked off a good Clemson team 50-44. Although Clemson is a periennial doormat in the ACC, it is a huge win and confidence booster for the Panthers. Tonight was the coming out party for sophomore shooting guard Reggie Dennehy. He scored 21 for the Panthers including 3-5 shooting from behind the arc. "This is a great win for this young ball club", said coach Lewis Witherspoon. "We played our most complete game of the season so far tonight. We shut down a good Clemson team and we played our style of half court basketball." High Point looked like they might hang with Clemson in the first half and went on a 7-0 run to end the half up 26-25. At the start of the second half the Panthers went on another 7-0 run and never looked back. Clemson closed the lead to 1 point with 4 minutes to go, but Reggie Dennehy kept the Panthers on top with a clutch three. High Point went on to win 50-44.

Can anyone help me? I'm having trouble scoring in this game. True, High Point is one of the worst teams you can start with but I can't score regardless. Earlier today I scored 26 against the Citadel, that is one point a minute. I've read Bamamans Georgia Southern dynasty, and he scores about 70 a game easy, but I have trouble just getting 50! Please help, thanks.

            HIGH POINT ANNIALATED BY UK

The Kentucky Wildcats destroyed High Point 71-33. It was a very tough loss for the Panthers, especially for new coach Lewis Witherspoon. "I don't know how we are going to get back on track after a demoralizing loss like this. It's hard to get the guys motivated if they think there going to get killed like this every game", said Witherspoon after the game. High Point shot terribly from the field against a better Kentucky team. Next up for the Panthers is the Citadel.

Try running play's. I had the same problem scoring you're having but now can get into 70's.

                HIGH POINT DESTROYS CITADEL

The High Point Panthers traveled south to Charleston to take on the Citadel. The team was looking for a dominate win after being crushed by Kentucky. They got it at the Citadel winning 66-31. The game was never close, the Panthers looked motivated again facing an inferior opponent. High Point shot 50% from the field to the Citadel's 29%. They also limited their turnovers to 9 while the Citadel had 21. Leading the way for High Point was Reggie Dennehy with 19, Sr. PF Gilson Almanson with 19 and 14 boards, and Mr. Consistency C Randy Prasse-Freeman with 20 pts. and 14 reb. High Point's morale is soaring after a great win like this, hopefully the high spirits will carry over to their next game against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

                    VANDY TOPS HIGH POINT

High Point met a tough Vanderbilt squad and came away with a loss. The Panthers started out hot behind the shooting of SG Reggie Dennehy and C Randy Prasse-Freeman. They were up 6 most of the first half but the Commodores made a late charge to tie the game at 30 heading into the break. High Point came out of the lockerrooms with stone cold shooting. Vanderbilt's inside players began to take over and the Commodores never looked back winning 63-50. "We played a great game today, if it had only lasted one half. I don't know what got into the guys in the second half. They were probably getting too excited thinking about upsetting Vanderbilt, and that cost us the game," said Coach Witherspoon after the game. Next up for High Point is the Cambell Fightin' Camels.

                      PANTHERS KNOCK OFF CAMPBELL

The High Point Panthers improved to (4-3) with a 52-35 win over Campbell. The game was a defensive struggle early on with Dennehy and Prasse-Freeman carrying the Panthers. A few timely three pointers put the Panthers up 25-10 with 3 minutes left to play in the first half. By halftime it was 27-12 and it didn't get any closer. Prasse-Freeman received player of the game honors with 25 points and 16 rebounds.

I'm having a lot of success using "PG Slash". Also theres a play where a double screen is set for the SG, thats working well for me. Don't remember the exact name of that one.

                          HIGH POINT UPSETS WSU

The Panthers knocked off the Washington State Huskies 52-50 in OT to move to (5-3) on the year. The first half was a defensive battle, neither team could get into a rythm on offense. High Point was up 1 at the half, but WSU came out hot to start the second half. The Panthers had to battle back from 8 down to tie the game at 34. Randy Prasse-Freeman scored what he thought was the game winning shot with 15 seconds to go, putting the Panthers up 45-43. WSU came right back and sent the game to OT with 2 seconds remaining. High Point dominated the overtime period and won 52-50. "That was probably one of our uglier offensive games this season," said Coach Witherspoon at the post-game press conference. "We didn't shoot the ball well at all, but our sound defensive play made up for it." High Point is now 5-3 heading into a rematch with Campbell.

Yes, PG Slash is a good play. Does passing work well also, recently I have had decent success passing around a lot, but this was against bad teams. Does passing the ball around a lot work effectively against good teams w/o calling a play?

                              HIGH POINT WAILS ON CAMPBELL...AGAIN

The High Point Panthers completely destroyed Campbell for the second time in three games. The Panthers are now 6-3 this season. After relying on Prasse-Freeman in the WSU game, the team seemed to have discovered the lost art of passing. SF T.J. Garrett had a huge game (19 pts. 11 reb.) for the Panthers. They finished the first half up 39-8 and the second and third teams played the rest of the game with the final score being 65-26. "This was a good tune up for the upcoming conference schedule,"said Coach Witherspoon after the game.

Note: Next time I blow out a bad team, I probably won't update it, I will do big games from now on as this has taken me forever to do. Thanks for reading.
