Re: Wisconsin Badgers (360)
Badgers Become Bowl Eligible
"I'll admit that I went through a few stages during the game," said Coach Bolden after the Badgers sixth straight win. "First stage was me being worried as can be with Tyrrell Sutton and Brewer running the option like they were and my offense being stuffed like it was. I'm glad I had a defensive coordinator that stuck with the gameplan though and we were able to crack down on their rushing attack."
"I'll also admit that early in the third, with us up 20-7 after PJs score, I was feeling pretty good and that we'd cruise on through to a sound victor. That was wrong and we should've taken our foot and pressed even further down on Northwestern's throat, but we didn't, and Northwestern's backup, Robertson, made one amazing play that left the whole stadium speechless. And you can be damned sure I was getting ready to dig into the defense for giving up a play like that until Lance Smith ran back that kick off. I was still pissed, but it took the sting off my words. Hell, I'm just glad we got the W and became bowl eligible."
With those words, Coach Bolden stepped down from the press conference table and into the locker room to talk with his players. The defense has steadily improved, and despite a few scares and confusion due to Northwesterns option attack they probably turned in the best performance of the season along with kicker Taylor Mehlaff who went 4-4 with a long of 49.
Right Tackle Jeremiah Thomas also announced a soft verbal following the game.

Recruiting Update
In town for the Minnesota game is #10 ranked MLB Julius Strong, who at 6'3 216 reportedly runs a 4.39 in the forty.Wisconsin is vying for his attention with fellow Big 10 powers Iowa and Michigan.
Joining Julius Strong will be #221 ranked QB Will Johnson, who while being deminutive(sp?) in size at 5'11 sports a rocket for an arm. Wisconsin finds themselves competing with Iowa and Ohio State to land this recruit out of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.Comment

Bad corners in the Pac 10, plus having Notre Dame on the schedule is not a good combo.Comment

Re: Wisconsin Badgers (360)
*grumble grumble* Well, I had finished a successful game against Minnesota (45-35) that required a great performance from John Stocco. Alas, the game froze as I went to exit and I doubt I'll replay it. I will probably still post the game pics though and simulate a win for myself.Comment

Re: Wisconsin Badgers (360)
Other notes from the game: Payne had about 7 catches for 280+ yards and five touchdowns on the Badger defense and I wanted to cry. Lance Smith went down with an abdominal tear, and John Stocco lead the team like a true champ going 20/26 260+ yards and 3 touchdowns. Alas, that epic game might as well never have happened.Comment

Recruiting Update
After a dominating 31-13 (re-sim, would've been 45-35, oh well) victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers the Wisconsin Badgers enjoyed a few more spoils besides bragging rights. Former soft verbal, right tackle Jeremiah Thomas went solid on his decision to become a Badger. He was quoted as saying, "Coach Bolden is the man I want to play for."
Recruits Will Johnson and Julius Strong who also attended the game found themselves enjoying the performance and giving a soft verbal. Will Johnson however said he still wanted to take the rest of his visits to Iowa and Ohio State. Can Wisconsin continue to perform and hold on to their recruits?Comment

Re: Wisconsin Badgers (360)
Defensive Woes
"I'm going to be gray in the head by the time this season is over," said a disgusted Coach Bolden who found 28-0 first quarter lead eaten up by the time the first half closed out due to poor secondary play. Purdue found themselves completting passes to receivers all day long who broke one or two tackles and simply out ran a Wisconsin secondary lacking in anything remotely resembling speed.
Offensively the Badgers lacked some of the punch they had earlier in the year as starting HB PJ Hill was kept in check till one long run at the end of the first half that inflated his stats. Backups Lance Smith and Lance Smith would pick up Smiths slack as they both rushed for over 100 yards in the game.
A resiliant Badger team would prevail in the end against a Purdue team that they were expect to beat and never lose stride.
Final Score
Wisconsin 49 Purdue 42
Wisconsin
John Stocco 7/10 132 yards 3 TD 1 INT
Lance Smith 17 carries 118 yards 1 TD
Jamil Walker 10 receptions 109 yards 1 TD
Roderick Rogers 6 tackles 2 INT
Purdue
Painter 19/42 423 yards 5 TD 5 INT
Sheets 6 carries 98 yards 1 TD
Bryant 7 receptions 188 yards 2 TD

Re: Wisconsin Badgers (360)
Recruiting Update
The Badger faithful received good news for their defense during the week as the number ten overall recruit, middle linebacker Julius Strong upped his soft verbal to a solid one. Strong is a 6'3 216 pound linebacker with amazing speed and should be able to come in and help out immediately to fill the whole that will be vacated by senior linebacker Mark Zalewski.
Strong wouldn't be alone however, as four star QB Will Johnson of Brooklyn, Park Minnesota would commit as well. Johnson is an undersize QB with a rocket for an arm and hopes to come in and compete for a starting job when John Stocco leaves after the season. His main reason for committing was how welcome Coach Bolden made him feel.
It was also announced that tight end Paul Motte would be making the trip all the way from Texas to watch the Badgers go head to head with the surprisingly 5-3 Illini who find themselves on the cusp of bowl eligibility. He will find himself in attendance with Antonio Rogers, a speedy wide receiver with good vertical from Ohio.
The Badgers still await word from cornerback Austin Henderson of Fort Stockton, Texas who was Wisconsin as #2 on his list of five along with 6'6 SS Robbie Shuler who also hails from Texas. Wisconsin sits behind LSU on Shulres top 5 list. Both defensive backs would bring an added dimension of speed to a slow secondary needing help in the worst of ways.Comment
