    N. Colorado is a good team in this game. You should be able to do pretty well.

Ball State makes coach Webber's debut a loss

A dominating performance on the glass by the Ball State Cardinals was a key factor in their 63-36 season opening victory over the Northern Colorado Bears in the coaching debut for the Bears Peter Webber.

"It was a disappointing performance by us today honestly," Said Webber, "I had high expectations heading into the game and we met none of them. Focusing on the positives though, it is a long season and there are plenty of games left to be played and for us to turn things around."

Skip Mills led the way for Ball State with 12 points while D'Andre Payton was the leading rebounder with six.

On the Bears side of things, Matt Kline was the leading scorer with eleven points for the game while adding two assists.

Next up for Northern Colorado as the look to even their record at 1-1 for the season is the always tough Purdue Boilermakers on Monday, November 13th.

Taibi stellar as Bears shock Sun Devils

Sean Tabi shot an unimpressive 6-12 from the field in tonights game against the Arizona State Sun Devils. But the unimpressive quickly becomes the opposite when you take a closer look and realize that all six made shot attempts were from behind the three point line.

The guard also went 9-10 from the free throw line for a total of 27 points in the Bears shocking 76-60 victory over Arizona State.

"He(Taibi) was just pouring it in," said Bears head coach Peter Webber, "He just got into a rhythm from outside and started knocking them down."

Taibi's partner in the backcourt, Matt Kline had nine assists for the game including four to his teammate Taibi.

"I was passing the ball extremely well in tonights game and my teammates were putting the ball in the basket so it all worked out for the best."

With the surprising win, the Bears move their record to 3-2 for the season. Their next game will be against state rivals, the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Turnover spell doom for Bears as Buffs roll

Most often, when a team commits more turnovers than their opposition, they will wind up losing the game as well. This theory held true once again as the Northern Colorado Bears lost the turnover battle, and in turn lost the basketball game 55-33 to their hosts the Colorado Buffaloes.

"It was a disgusting display," commented Bears head coach Peter Webber, "Absolutely disgusting."

The Bears committed 14 turnovers in the game, compared to just five for their hosts. It didn't help matters that the visitors went to the line only seven times the entire game, hitting just 57 percent of their free throw attempts.

"There's certainly a lot that we're going to have to work on in order to get better out there," said Webber, "We cannot allow things like this, losses like this, to happen when a little bit of defensive pressure comes our way. If we do, then we will continue to crumble in much the same manner we did this evening."

Northern Colorado didn't have a player score in double figures in the game. Junior guard Terry Anderson was the leading scorer with just nine points. It's not going to get any easier for the Bears either when they take a trip to Fort Collins next week to play the Rams of Colorado State.

              Filip Christie Is A Bear

Filip Christie, a six foot seven inch power forward from Denver, Colorado has decided he will play for the Northern Colorado Bears starting next season.

"I'm glad we got him, commented Bears head coach Peter Webber, "He should be able to improve our presence both offensively as well as defensively on the inside."

Christie was rated ** by rivals.com and was the 103 ranked power forward in his class.

"I'm excited to be attending Northern Colorado next fall and leading them to great success in the future," said Christie.

Archibeque, Tabi lead way as Bears upset Rams

Kirk Archibeque and Sean Tabi each had seventeen points as they led the Northern Colrado Bears to the upset 66-63 victory over the Colorado State Rams.

"No one expected us to win this game," said Bears head coach Peter Webber, "But these guys(Taibi and Archibeque) took the game over and allowed that to happen. It was truly a great performance by both of those guys."

Archibeque started the game off hot, grabbing the first eight points for his team while being a force on the defensive end of the floor as well, altering shots and grabbing rebounds. Taibi heated up from the outside in the second half. Kicking off the second period with a spectacular four point play to give his team the lead, one which the would not relinquish.

The Rams battled back throughout the second half, though. They tied the game late in the second half, but when it came down to free throws, the Bears were simply too good in that aspect and were able to come out on top.

"I echoed one sentiment throughout practice this week. I told these boys to believe. I told them that it didn't matter what the scoreboard read, as long as there was time on that game clock, and they believed that they had a hope and a prayer, that there was ALWAYS a chance for them to come out on top and that's exactly what they did today. I'm so proud of them for their accomplishments on that floor this evening.

Walker pours it in from outside as Denver gets revenge

The Denver Pioneers and the Northern Colorado Bears met for the second time with Denver looking to avenge the one point loss they received at the hands of their in-state foes earlier in the season. Thanks to thirty-two points from senior guard DaShawn Walker, they were able to get their revenge by a score of 62-52.

"He(Walker) simply shot the lights out tonight," said Bears head coach Peter Webber, "It didn't matter what we did, he just took the game over and he is the big reason why his team got the victory tonight."

Walker shot 12-21 from the field including going 6-12 from behind the three point line including a deep triple with just over a minute and a half to play in regulation time to seal the deal for the visitors.

The win improves Denver's record to 8-2 for the season who have won six consecutive games and will look to make it seven when they travel to play Arkansas State in their Sun Belt conference season opener on the 14th of December.

As for Northern Colorado, the loss drops their overall record back down to the .500 mark at 4-4 for the season. They will look to climb back above that mark when they travel to play Bowling Green on Tuesday, December 19th.

Samarco fills it up as Bowling Green wins easily

Falcons senior guard Martin Samarco dropped in 29 points as he was the major factor in his teams 66-51 win over the Northern Colorado Bears.

"We just didn't seem to have an answer for him(Samarco)" commented Bears head coach Peter Webber following the loss, "We threw a bunch of different looks at him defensively but he was just feelin' it I suppose"

Samarco shot 10-20 from the field including 5-12 from behind the three point line for the game and it seemed like every time the Bears would try and make a run to get back in the game, the senior out of Atlanta was there to knock down a big shot for his team and kill the momentum.

"It's a tough loss for us but to be honest we were unable to stop their big time players when we needed to and that's why we lost this one.

Sean Taibi was the leading scorer for the Bears in this one with twelve points, while Kirk Archibeque was able to pull down seven rebounds in a losing effort.

Right so for some reason or another my dynasty didn't save after the last three games so I simmed the Eastern Michigan game and won 66-56 while losing to Air Force 59-46 so the next update will be the Weber State game.

Big men lead the way as Bears open conference season with win

Dwyane Birden was the leading scorer for the Northern Colorado Bears, while Kirk Archibeque chipped in with 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the Bears 53-41 victory over Weber State in the Big Sky conference opener for both schools.

"It was good to get production like we had tonight out of our big men," said Bears head coach Peter Webber, "It takes a lot of pressure off of our guards as well as gives us another dimension on the offensive end of the floor.

The Bears greatly benefited from both Birden's and Archibeques presence on the glass on both ends of the floor. The pair pulled down a combined four offensive rebounds for their team.

The wins gets the Bears back to the .500 mark for the season at 6-6 while improving their conference record to 1-0, while the loss drops Weber States overall record to 2-8 and to 0-1 in conference play.

                          Archibeque wins game for Bears

Kirk Archibeque knocked down a baby hook plus the foul with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation to hand his Northern Colorado Bears the 70-67 conference victory over Sacramento State.

"He came up big when he got the ball, that's pretty much all you can ask for." said Bears head coach Peter Webber after the game.

The junior forward had a quiet night otherwise, putting in just seven points and pulling down five rebounds, but that did matter because they only points that mattered to Bears fans were the three he scored on the final possession of the game for the home side.

"I just took it up and hoped for the best," said Archibeque, "I'm glad it dropped and I hit the free throw on top of things."

The loss drops Sacramento State's overall record to three games below .500 at 5-8 and to 1-1 in conference play. The win boost Northern Colorado's record to 7-6 overall and a perfect 2-0 in conference play. They will look to keep their Big Sky record unblemished when they take on Eastern Washington to kick off 2007 on Thursday, January 4th.

Note: Apparently I forgot to do a write up of the Eastern Washington game but I will tell you that I wound up winning it 62-57. So now here's the Portland State write up.

Bears romp while continuing their roll

Sean Taibi was the leading scorer for the Northern Colorado Bears with sixteen points while Kirk Archibeque chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds in a game where every player on the Bears got into the points column in a 69-48 romp over Portland State.

"This just seemed to be one of those games where we could do no wrong," commented Bears head coach Peter Webber, "We never trailed in the game and really were never in any danger of relinquishing our advantage at all. I'm very pleased with how we played this evening."

The Bears had their lead swell to as big as twenty-five points during the second half and despite efforts from their visitors to chip away at the lead, it proved to be insurmountable.

The loss drops Portland State's record down to 8-7 overall and to a disappointing 0-4 in conference play. The win boosts Northern Colorado's overall record 9-6 on the season and allowed them to remain perfect atop the Big Sky conference standings with a record of 4-0.

Bears remain perfect in conference play

In a match up between the top two teams in the Big Sky conference, it took a big performance from Thanasi Panagiotakopoulos off the bench to preserve Northern Colorado's perfect record in conference play with a 72-67 win over visiting Northern Arizona.

"It's good when you can get a performance like that from a player coming off the bench," said Bears head coach Peter Webber, "It takes a lot of the pressure off your starters knowing that they've got someone behind them that can put in a great effort like that."

The junior guard was the leading scorer for the Bears on the night with 18 points, and it was his performance in the second half which preserved the win for his team which nearly blew a 17 point advantage late in regulation time.

"He was there to knock down big shots late in the game." said Webber.

The loss drops Northern Arizona's record down to 7-6 overall this season and 3-2 in Big Sky play. The win boosts Northern Colorado's record to 10-6 overall this year and remains perfect in Big Sky play at 5-0. Next up for the Bears will be the Idaho State Bengals on Saturday, January 13th.
