      Re: UNC Tar Heels (CH2K7)

It's been a while but I've been playing. Here's a few quick stats for the 2008 season.

      #2 North Carolina Tar Heels
      Record: 14-4 (4-3 ACC)

      Starting Lineup
So. PG Ty Lawson [8.9 ppg, 7.1 apg]
So. SG Wayne Ellington [19.4 ppg, 38.1% 3pt]
Jr. SF Danny Green [17.6 ppg, 5.0 rpg]
Fr. SF Maureece Babcock [11.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg]
      So. C Brandan Wright [13.5, 8.9 rpg, 3.4 bpg]

So far I've had a good season. There was a 3-game losing streak at the beginning of ACC play which slowed me down but I've been on a roll since.

Make sure to check out the link in my sig, I'll post game recaps in this thread, so check back!

          (15-4) #2 North Carolina 81
          (11-8) Virginia 68

          Player of the Game
So. C Brandan Wright, North Carolina
          18 pts -- 8 reb -- 3 blk -- 9/13 fg

Wright was all over the boards and was a big time stopper in the paint. On the offensive side of the floor he was strong finishing plays.

          No Show
So. PG Ty Lawson, North Carolina
          7 pts -- 2 ast -- 3 TO -- 1/4 3pt

He leads the NCAA in assists per game but failed to get into a rythym in this one. He struggled shooting the ball from deep and turned it over three times. A rare showing from a great player.

          Bottom Line
The Tar Heels shot the ball well and Virginia did not. UNC was able to hold off the Cavs despite being outrebounded badly and shooting 2/13 from deep. It was a win, and that's all that matters.

            Vermont 69
            #2 UNC 83

            Player of the Game
So. C Brandan Wright, North Carolina
            11 pts -- 13 reb -- 2 blk

The Catamounts had to stick to their outside game due to Wright's presence in the middle, and they weren't very successful from out there. Wright cleaned up the boards for another double-double.

            No Show
            Catamounts 3pt shooting
            4-16 3pt

They needed to make these to have a chance, and went ice cold.

            Bottom Line
Carolina is a much better team and Vermont never stood a chance. 5 Tar Heels scored in double figures and they shot 8-16 from 3pt.

            Wake Forest 59
            #2 UNC 85

            Player of the Game
Jr. SF Danny Green, North Carolina
            24 pts -- 11 reb -- 5 ast -- 9/15 fg

Green started hot and never cooled off. He led the Heels with 24 points and connected from everywhere on the court.

            No Show
Jr. PF Kevin Swinton, Wake Forest
            0 pts -- 6 reb -- 0/5 fg

Swinton is the best player on Wake, but he was no where to be found tonight. He got in foul trouble early and was only able to play about 20 minutes. The only good thing you can say was that the rest of the Demon Deacons didn't show up either, so he wasn't alone.

            Bottom Line
When you shoot 23/78 from the field and 7/30 from beyond the arc, you're not going to win. Wake Forest demonstrated this and UNC took full advantage of their off night.

            #2 UNC 88
            #25 Maryland 90

            Player of the Game
            Sr. PF James Gist, Maryland
            15 pts -- 10 reb -- 6/9 fg

Whenever a missed shot went up, Gist came down with it. Most of his boards were offensive too, which led to an easy putback. He was unstoppable on the boards, and frustrated the heck out of me!

            No Show
            Carolina bigmen!
Gave up 24 offensive boards! Outrebounded 46-25!!!

This was the most evident stat of the game. Maryland had multiple chances on several possessions, leading to the victory.

            Bottom Line
The negative: Obviously rebounding was disheartening. Wright and the freshman Maureece Babcock need to do a better job down low.
The positive: UNC showed plenty of heart getting back into it down 12 at the break and down 21 at a certain point in the 2nd half.

            Next 2 games:
UNC crushed Duke 98-74 at Cameron Indoor
UVA slid by UNC at UVA 72-75. This game was ugly...don't want to recap.

            Current info for UNC
            #3 in the polls
            18-6 record
            7-5 ACC (5th)

4 games left: GT, @ Wake, NC St., @ Miami

              Yellow Jackets Claim ACC Title
UNC falls in semi-finals, get #4 seed in NCAA Tourney

              2008 ACC Bracket

The Tar Heels were stuck in a tough place, going 8-8 in ACC play and earning the #9 seed in the ACC tournament. They were able to knock off Boston College easily in the opening round and then rallied to beat #1 seed Maryland 89-83 in overtime. When the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets came around they brought their A-game, especially Anthony Morrow. Morrow had 31 points and was lights out from everywhere. Carolina heads to the NCAA tournament as a #4 seed in the Phoenix Regional. Kentucky is the #1 seed and Kansas is the #2 seed, with Notre Dame #3.

There is no lack of talent in this bracket, so it'll be exciting to see if Roy Williams can lead the Heels to a deep tournament run.

Obviously a new format of updating games. I'll post all the important games in this format. It's gonna be a good one vs. Kansas!

Very nice legacy so far. Good luck in the Final 4, looks like a tough matchup with UConn.

It's just a picture. I use a blank slate in Macromedia Fireworks and then add logos and text and pics. Really easy. Just finding good font is really hard. They may change.
