AC Milan scores late goal to draw

The Ajax attack was consistent and overwhelming at times, but despite a large quantity of shots, resulted in only one goal. Anastasiou's goal in the fifty-seventh minute following a perfect leading pass from Huntelaar finally put Ajax on the board with a 1-0 lead. It was a great relief to finally score after numerous open looks and opportunities in space. The defense would not hold, though, allowing the tying goal from Seedorf with under ten minutes to play. A barrage of corner kicks, free kicks, and other shots from inside the box in the closing minutes went to waste, and Ajax was forced to accept just one point after a tremendous offensive effort.

Ajax cruises to another win

Despite resting four starters, Ajax still mustered three goals in the second half to defeat Tottenham Hotspur FC. After falling behind 1-0, the game was evened up when Charisteas, who wore the captain's band in place of Sneijder, scored on a shot from the corner of the box. Just three minutes later, he assisted on the go-ahead goal by Sarpong, the seventeen year-old's first of the year. Mancharyan was subsituted in for Huntelaar to get his first action this season. The lead was extended on a breakaway by Pienaar with under five minutes to play, but cut back to one during injury time.

Certain victory given away

In a forgettable match, Ajax blew a 3-1 lead against Olympique Lyonnais, allowing two goals in the last fifteen minutes of play to lose 4-3. First half goals from Charisteas, Anastasiou, and Rosales gave Ajax what appeared to be a more than comfortable 3-1 advantage, with the opposing goal scored by Tiago. However, in the sixty-third minute Govou was allowed to dribble unchallenged from midfield into the box and score. Wiltord tied the game by punching in a loose rebound. The dejected Ajax players and fans were upset about turning a win into a draw, but that one point evaporated when Fred was able to boot the ball into the net in the closing moments.

Glorious victory versus Real Madrid CF

AFC Ajax handed Real Madrid their first loss in league play by an improbable 3-1 margin. An early header from Huntelaar off a cross by Rosales gave the team an initial surge of confidence and a belief that a win was possible. The second half goal from Rosales after Charisteas's pass made it seem likely. Real Madrid would get one back five minutes later when Soldado drove a shot past Stekelenburg, but Ajax assured themselves three points and a monumental upset when Charisteas drilled the rock from the top of the box into the back of the net with under a minute to play.
