2007 New York Yankees (MVP 05)

Just started up a new dynasty with the PC version of MVP 05, using the MVP 07 mod. Games are on all star.

    Game 1
    vs. Tampa Bay
    Wang vs. Kazmir

Yankees got off to a fast start in this one, putting up 3 in the first inning thanks to a leadoff Johnny Damon walk, singles by Jeter, Abreu, and Arod, and a botched double play. That's all Wang would really need as he pitched 6 solid innings giving up only 1 run and 3 hits. The Yankees would add 2 runs later on, one on a solo homerun by Jason Giambi, and went on to win 5-2.

    Yankees 5
    Devil Rays 2

    W- Wang (1-0)
    L- Kazmir (0-1)
    S- Rivera (1)
MVP: Derek Jeter 3-3 2 runs scored

    1-0

    Game 2 vs. Tampa Bay
    Mussina vs. Fossum
Devil Rays jumped out to a 2-0 lead early, but the Yankees answered back to tie it, and then would take a 3-2 in the 7th on a Jeter single. Kyle Farnsworth could not protect the lead however, giving up a solo homer to Ty Wigginton, his 2nd of the game. The Devil Rays then beat Mariano Rivera in the 9th on an RBI Delmon Young single. The Yankees would threaten in the 9th, putting guys on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, but Abreu and A-Rod both popped out.

    Devil Rays 4
    Yankees 3

    W- Miceli (1-0)
    L- Rivera (0-1)
    S- Orvella (1)

    MVP: Ty Wigginton 2 HR's

    1-1

Re: 2007 New York Yankees (MVP 05)

The Yankees are off to a horrendous start against the 2 annual bottom feeders of the AL East. After winning the season opener, the bullpen cost the Yankees a win in game 2. In the 3rd game Andy Pettitte got hit pretty hard in his Yankee return. After Carl Pavano got knocked out in the 2nd inning against the Orioles, dropping the Yankees to 1-3, we hit what is hopefully rock bottom in the next game.

Wang was brilliant, pitching 7.1 shutout innings, dropping his era to .68 on the season. He was tiring though, so the Yankees handed the ball to Kyle Farnsworth, with a 3-0 lead hoping he could get the 2 outs needed to get the ball to Mo. He didn't even come close however, giving up 8 runs without recording an out, 6 of them on long homeruns, raising his era to 81.00 on the season. The Orioles would add 3 more in the 9th off Scott Proctor, and would win 11-3.

To make matters worse, with Robinson Cano already out for 5 days with a fractured nose, Bobby Abreu strained his back jumping against the wall, and will miss a week.

      1-4

Through 3 starts Wang has been brilliant, with a .82 era. Unfortunately, he is only 1-1, as the Yankees lose another heartbreaker, this time to the Oakland A's. Wang and Rich Harden matched put up a classic pitchers duel, and with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th it looked like we'd be heading to extra innings with a 0-0 tie. But Bobby Crosby ended it with a solo homerun to centerfield just over the leaping Johnny Damon.

        5-5

I will have a bigger update soon, posting standings and stats for most or all of the players.

Re: 2007 New York Yankees (MVP 05)

Disaster has struck in New York. Derek Jeter, off to an absolutely incredible start, will miss 55 days with a separated shoulder. Miguel Cairo will start at shortstop for the time being but expect the Yankees to try and search for a better hitting replacement. Brian Cashman did not rule out moving A-Rod to shortstop until Jeter returns. The injury came during a bad 12-4 loss to the Oakland A's, another bullpen collapse, putting the Yankees at a mediocre 6-6 to start the year.

Re: 2007 New York Yankees (MVP 05)

Things have not gotten much better for the Yankees as they have dropped to 10-15, last place in the AL East and 7.5 games behind the Red Sox who have won 9 in a row.

Injuries have continued to be a problem. In addition to Jeter still being out, for over another month, Johnny Damon, Bobby Abreu, Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera, and Chien-Ming Wang have all missed time. In fact at the moment Bernie Williams is the starting centerfielder. Injuries haven't been the only problem. The bullpen has been dreadful. Phil Hughes struggled and was sent back down to AAA and the Yankees still haven't found a capable 4th or 5th starter. And the teams power has been down. Giambi and A-Rod have only 3 homeruns. Bobby Abreu leads the team with 5.

Since the last update the Yankees have faced 2 teams, and the results against the 2 teams couldn't be more different. In 6 games against the Rangers, the Yankees are 6-0. In 7 games against the Mariners, the Yankees are 1-6. Pitching continues to be the big issue as the bullpen has been a disaster, and the rotation has been very bad as well. Wang has tapered off after a dominating start, and everyone else has been very inconsistent.

Once again all the other relievers basically have the same stats 6+ eras.

Things won't get any easier for the Yankees as they travel to Chicago for 3 against the White Sox, followed by 3 at the Mets, and then a 6 game homestand against the Red Sox and Angels.

Once again all the other relievers basically have the same stats 6+ eras.

Up next the Yankees go to Toronto for a 3 game series, followed by another 3 game series in Boston and a 4 game series against the White Sox in Chicago. They then return home for 3 against the Pirates.

What's the best way for a struggling AL East team to get on a nice winning streak? The start of interleague play. The Yankees are 11-6 so far in June and have won 9 of their last 11. Getting Derek Jeter back from injury hasn't hurt either, and he has pretty much continued his torrid pace that he began the season with.

Yankees continue to roll, as they finished up June with an 18-8 record, and have won 18 of their last 23 overall. The Yankees will continue their current homestand with 4 vs. the Twins and then 3 vs. the Angels, and then it is the all star break.

After the All Star Break the Yankees will go to Tampa Bay for a 4 game series, and then return home for a 7 game homestand with 4 against the Blue Jays and 3 against the Devil Rays.

The Yankees play since the all star break has been very inconsistent. They have struggled badly at home, but have played well on the road. The division is all but out of reach, but the Yankees do lead the wildcard race. They will have to go through the stretch run without Hideki Matsui, who is out until the beginning of October.. Melky Cabrera will start in left, and Kevin Thompson was called up to fill the roster spot.

Since the last update the Yankees have played well going 9-4. Everybody in the AL Central has been playing well too however, and the Yankees weren't able to add to their lead in the wildcard race. However, Boston has begun to struggle. The AL East appeared over in the last update as the Red Sox had a 10 game lead, but the lead is now only 5.5 games over the Yankees, and the 2 teams still play each other 6 times.
