    Re: Lan's Boston Red Sox

    May 1st: Red Sox (19-7) 2, Athletics (7-18) 0

Boston (AP)-- Daisuke Matsuzaka and Rich Harden engaged in a spectacular pitcher's duel tonight here at Fenway. Fortunately for the Red Sox, Harden ran out of the gas after 6 innings and did not come out for the 7th giving up just 1 run on 6 hits striking out 8 over the six. Dice-K, however, went the distance baffling the A's offense the entire game going for the complete game 2 hit shutout striking out 8 batters. His assortment of pitches was just too much for the A's to handle as he improved to 5-0 on the season. The A's have been struggling all season long as their offense is really very weak in terms of pop which doesn't allow them to manufacture very many runs. The Sox offense was provided on RBI singles by Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez. Willy Mo Pena received the "Mark Bellhorn Award" by striking out in all 4 of his ABs today.

      Re: Lan's Boston Red Sox

      May 2nd: Red Sox (20-7) 7, Athletics (7-19) 2

Boston (AP)-- Danny Haren was coming off a career season heading into the '07 campaign for the A's, but has struggled mightily thus far this season coming into today's game with a 1-3 record and an ERA north of 5.5. The Red Sox did not help his cause jumping on him for 4 runs on 7 hits chasing him from the game after just 3 2/3 IP. Haren would indeed wind up on the losing end falling to 1-4 and raising his ERA to 6.67. David Ortiz hit his first home run in over two weeks, and Manny Ramirez's 3 run home run powered the Sox offense past the A's. Jon Lester improved to 3-1 on the season going 5 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and striking out a season-high 8. Devern Hansack pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief giving up just 2 hits and striking out 4, and Delcarmen pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the 7-2 victory.

        May 4th: Red Sox (21-7) 13, Twins (15-14) 7

Minnesota (AP)- If you like pitching, this matchup wasn't for you. The Twins starter Ramon Ortiz, has been consistently one of the worst starting pitchers in all of baseball yet somehow continues to find work. What happens when you combine the worst pitcher in the league with the best offense in the league? You get smoked, that's what. Ortiz lasted just 2 1/3 innings giving up 9 runs on 9 hits. How could it get worse? Putting in Randy Choate makes it worse. To add insult to injury, one of the Twins only good pitchers, Juan Rincon, took a line drive to the head off the bat of Manny Ramirez and will miss the next week or two. The Twins hope things will get better for them in their next matchup as we will see Johan Santana vs. Tim Wakefield followed by Curt Schilling vs. Francisco Liriano.

          May 5th: Red Sox (22-7) 4, Twins (15-15) 1

Minnesota (AP)-- As expected, this was a low scoring matchup between the Sox and the Twins. However, it was unexpected that the Red Sox pitching staff would dominate as thoroughly as it did. The entire Twins lineup was held hitless with the exception of MVP Justin Morneau who had a single and a solo home run in the 4-1 loss. Johan Santana fell to 4-2 on the season despite pitching 7.2 innings and giving up just 3 runs on 7 hits while fanning 12. Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield left the game with 2 outs in the 5th with a strained bicep muscle and did not pickup the win. Okajima improved to 3-0 in relief pitching 2.1 innings giving up just the solo homer to Morneau. Donnelly pitched a scoreless 8th, and newly named closer Devern Hansack picked up his 1st save of the season. The Sox offense was balanced with RBI coming from Lugo, Drew, Ortiz, and Ramirez 1 each. The final game of the series will be tomorrow night and features Francisco Liriano in his first start of the season vs. Curt Schilling.
