The Bronx Bombers: A Return To Glory (MVP '05 PC)

I have finally decided it's time to start up a dynasty again in MVP '05. All of my mods are in order and I'm happy w. the roster updates.

    GAME: MVP 2005 (PC)
    SETTINGS: All-Star w. a few personal tweaks

I will simmed the entire season with the UR 8.6 rosters, so many of the minor league call-ups spent the entire season in the majors.

Re: The Bronx Bombers: A Return To Glory (MVP '05 PC)

I'm already into the playoffs so I do not have any in-game photos or in-depth stats, but I will post a recap for all games previously played. From here on out I will include more information on each game as well as a few photos.

    2007 American League Divisional Series
Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees

    Game 1 (@ NYY): D. Haren vs. A. Pettitte
    NYY wins 3-2 (11 innings)

The New York Yankees opened up the 2007 playoffs with come-from-behind victory over the Oakland A's. Mark Kotsay lead off the game with a home run into the right field bleachers off Andy Pettitte. Later in the inning Mike Piazza added an RBI double to give Oakland an early 2-0 lead.

The Yankees bounced back to tie the game on solo homers by Johnny Damon in the 5th and Bobby Abreu in the 8th. Hideki Matsui won the game on a walk-off solo home run off Huston Street in the 11th.

    WP: M. Rivera
    LP: H. Street

    Game 2 (@ NYY): R. Harden vs. C. Wang
    NYY wins 2-1

The Yankees continued to rely on the long-ball as two solo home runs were enough to get past the A's in Game 2. Wang had a terrific outting to back up Cano and Damon's home runs.

    WP: Wang
    LP: Harden
    S: Rivera

    Game 3 (@ Oak): C. Gaudin vs. R. Clemens
    Oak wins 8-2

The Yankees looked well on their way to a sweep when Roger Clemens had a no-hitter through 5 innings in Game 3. However, Clemens fell apart in the 6th inning, allowing six runs included a bases-clearing double to Eric Chavez.

    WP: Gaudin
    LP: Clemens

    Game 4 (@ Oak): J. Blanton vs. P. Hughes
    NYY wins 11-5
The Yankees offense finally erupted after three relatively quiet games to start the series. Alex Rodriguez led the attack with two home runs and six RBI's.

The big blow came in the 7th inning when Johnny Damon's 3-run home run gave the Yanks a 5-4 lead. From there the offense kept pumping, scoring a total of 9 runs in the final three frames of the ball game.

Mike Mussina picked up the win out of the bullpen.

2007 American League Championship Series: Games 1, 2 and 3

      2007 American League Championship Series

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees

      Game 1 (@ NYY): R. Halladay vs. R. Clemens

      NYY wins 11-8

In a wild offensive slugfest, the Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the ALCS over the Blue Jays.

Clemens was rocked early and the Yankees faced a 5-1 deficit after two innings. The Yankees climbed back into things thanks to some timely hitting by Hideki Matsui and tied the game up in the 4th at 5. The Blue Jays had a 8-7 lead in the 7th inning when Jorge Posada hit a sky-high pop that managed to bang off the foul pole just above the 314-ft sign in RF for a 3-run home run.

The Yankees didn't look back from there, as Chamberlain and Rivera worked a scoreless 8th and 9th to seal the victory.

      WP: Chamberlain
      LP: Halladay
      S: Rivera

      Game 2 (@ NYY): A. Burnett vs. C. Wang

      TOR wins 7-6

For the second straight game the Yankees found themselves facing a sizable deficit early, and once again the Bronx Bombers managed an impressive comeback. However, the final outcome was different in Game 2 as the Blue Jays managed to swing momentum late in the game and steal Game 2.

Wang struggled from the start and the Yankees trailed 4-0 after two innings. The Yankees cut it to 6-4 in the 7th when Melky Cabrera came up with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two outs. Cabrera was fooled on a breaking pitch, but managed to get just enough of it for an excuse-me bloop base hit to shallow right allowing both runners to score and tie things up at 6.

Unfortunately, Cabrera went from hero to goat quickly when he misplayed a ball hit to center in the 9th inning. Alex Rios hit a sharp line to center and Cabrera took a poor angle to it and allowed it to get past him all the way to the wall, giving Rios a triple to lead off the inning.

Rivera managed to strike out Vernon Wells, but a Frank Thomas sac-fly gave the Jays a 7-6 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Blue Jays' closer BJ Ryan struck out Abreu, then hung a curveball to Alex Rodriguez that was hit all the way to the wall in right-center, but Rios managed to make a great catch. A-Rod missed a HR by less than five feet. Ryan then got Matsui to ground out, ending the game and tying the series at 1-1.

      Game 3 (@ TOR): G. Chacin vs. R. Clemens
      NYY wins 2-1

After a poor outing the ALDS, Clemens bounced back with an impressive outing to give the Yanks a 2-1 series lead.

The game got off to a rocky start as Clemens allowed a triple on the first batter of the game, who eventually scored. That was all Toronto would get for the rest of the game.

Alex Rodriguez tied things up in the top of the second with a long home run to centerfield, his third of the post season.

Fast-forward to the top of the 8th, Melky Cabrera lines a 1-out single. Johnny Damon attempts to bunt Melky to second and Troy Glaus throws wildly to first, allowing Melky and Damon to advance to third and second respectively. Derek Jeter then walked and Bobby Abreu stepped up with the bases loaded and one out.

Toronto brought the infield in to cut off a run instead of playing back at double-play depth. Abreu smoked a 2-0 fastball just to the left of 2B Aaron Hill. Because Hill was playing so shallow, he managed to barely get a glove on the ball and knock it down, allowing Cabrera to score and all runners to be safe. The official scoring charged Hill with an error. If the Jays were in their normal defense it would have been an inning ending double play.

Joba Chamberlain struck out the side in the 8th and Mariano Rivera worked a 1-2-3 ninth for another save.

2007 ALCS Game 4 (NYY @ TOR) Marcum vs. Hughes

The New York Yankees took a commanding 3-1 lead over the Toronto Blue Jays behind a great outing from rookie phenom Phil Hughes. Hughes gave up one run in six innings.

Hideki Matsui got things going for the Yanks in the 2nd inning with a long solo home run to right center and the Yanks tacked on three more runs in the 4th via small ball.

Mariano Rivera worked a 1-2-3 9th for his third save of the post season.

2007 ALCS Game 5: (NYY @ TOR) Halladay vs. Wang

Toronto (AP) - Derek Jeter proved once again why he's one of the best post-season players of all time and the New York Yankees proved to be too much for the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Championship Series.

Derek Jeter belted an 11th inning solo home run that proved to be the game, and series, wining home run. Jeter crushed a hanging breaking ball off Blue Jay closer BJ Ryan, who had a 2.08 ERA entering Game 5.

The Yankees appeared to be well on their way to a victory when the pounced on Blue Jay ace Roy Halliday for three runs in the first inning. Robinson Cano's opposite field double scored Jeter and Johnny Damon. This was the first game in the 2007 post season that manager Joe Torre has batted Cano in the three-hole. Jorge Posada added an RBI single that scored Cano.

The Blue Jays started to claw back with an RBI double by Reed Johnson in the 3rd.

A Damon solo homer pushed the lead back to three in the 5th and the Yankees avoided a potential Blue Jay rally when Alex Rodriguez made a spectacular diving play with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the inning.

Trailing 4-1 in the 7th, the Blue Jays desperately staged a rally to try and save their season. Humberto Sanchez gave up a lead-off triple and an RBI single to Vernon Wells to cut the lead to 4-2. After Sanchez walked Frank Thomas and threw a wild pitch, Torre called on rookie phenom Joba Chamberlain to try and get the Yankees out of a 2nd & 3rd, no-out jam. Chamberlain, who allowed his first run of the post season last night in Game 4, gave up a game-tying double to Troy Glaus.

The game remained tied until the 11th, when Jeter touched up Ryan for the game-winning home run. Mariano Rivera worked a scoreless 11th and the Yankees clinched their 40th American League Pennant.

Mike Mussina worked four scoreless innings in relief for the victory.

2007 World Series Game 1 (PHI @ NYY) F. Garcia vs. R. Clemens

NEW YORK (AP) - Alex Rodriguez has waited four seasons in the Bronx, and 14 total, to play in his first World Series. He didn't wait long to leave his mark.

Trailing 3-1 in the 6th, Rodriguez came to the plate with two on and none out. Phillies' starter Freddy Garcia had been stymieing the Bronx Bombers all night but was starting to show signs of fatigue.

That's when A-Rod crushed a 2-1 fastball from Garcia deep in to the left field seats, send the capacity Yankee Stadium crowd into a frenzy.

The Phillies kept battling and pulled to within 6-4 in the bottom of the 8th when the loaded the bases. Manager Joe Torre decided to break the "Joba Rules" and brought in the 21-year-old reliever mid-inning. Chamberlain found himself in a bases-loaded, two out situation situation against Aaron Rowand. Chamberlain got Rowand to pop up a slider to shallow right, but Robinson Cano had to make an amazing running catch to save two runs.

Mariano Rivera struck out the side in the 9th for the save.

The game definitely looks that good. All I'm using is an app called Fraps to take the screen-shots, it's freeware. It's very convienent, just open the program, start MVP and press whichever hot-key you designate to take a snap shot. So I just press the Del button on the number pad and I capture a shot. I take about 35-70 screens each game and then go back and choose the best 5-8 shots to upload.

All the mods that are created by the guys at mvpmods.com are mind-boggling. Who'da thought that so much could be down with a "last-gen PC game." Just imagine if these guys were hired by EA and 2K, every console sports game would be amazing. The stadiums look so good, as do the uniforms. I love having the Scooter and Lidle tributes on the sleeves. All the little things add so much to this game.

And thanks for the compliment too, I've actually had the entire WS finished for a few days but haven't had the chance to post the updates. Trust me, it's a heckuva series.

2007 World Series Game 2 (PHI @ NYY) Moyer vs. Pettitte

NEW YORK (AP) - In a match up of two "crafty lefties", Jamie Moyer pitched a complete game, 3-hit shut out to best Andy Pettitte and the Yankees 1-0.

Moyer, who's fastball maxes out at 85, used pinpoint control and devastating change up to keep the Yankees' potent line up off balance all night. The Yankees have struggled against left-handed pitching all season never even got a runner into scoring position.

The lone run of the game came on a Pat Burrell home-run to the deepest part of Yankee Stadium, landing just shy of the black centerfield bleachers.

*note: I played Games 2 & 3 at like 3am or so, so I forgot to capture alot of screens, oh well!

I know laptops are tricky with this game. Heck, your biggest challenge would be finding a copy of the game to begin with. I haven't looked in a while, but copies of the game were going for over $100 on ebay a little while back.

I would register at mvpmods.com and post your laptop's specs, they should be able to help you out.

2007 World Series Game 3 (NYY @ PHI) P. Hughes vs. C. Hamels

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - With the 2007 World Series tied at 1-1, both teams sent out their young stud pitchers to the hill in Game 3.

Both Phil Hughes and Cole Hamels impressed, but it was Hamels who got the job done and led the Phillies to a 3-1 win over the Yankees.

Two swings of the bat were all that decided this game, and the only difference was how many base runners were on board at the time.

Alex Rodriguez hit a 2nd-inning solo home run to dead center field off Hamels, but after that Hamels was practically unhittable. Phil Hughes was just as sharp, however his one mistake to Ryan Howard came with two men on in the 4th.

For the second straight game the Yankees could not touch a left handed pitcher. After Game 3, the Yankees have scored 1 run in 18 innings against Phillie LHP.

2007 World Series Game 4 (NYY @ PHI) C. Wang vs. A. Eaton

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Trailing two games to one, the Yankees were nearing "must-win" status entering Game 4. Who better to call on than Chien-Ming Wang? Wang had been rusty in the DS and CS, but put everything back together in Game 4. Wang threw 8 innings of shut out ball as the Yankees evened up the World Series at 2-2 with a 4-0 win.

Bobby Abreu got the scoring started with a long 2-run HR in the second inning. Abreu was hitting just .213 in the post season entering Game 4 and has been in the 8-hole in the order since the ALCS.

The Yankees tacked on two more runs in the 3rd inning on Johnny Damon's solo HR and a Jorge Posada RBI single. It would be all they would need behind Wang's excellent effort.
