I was just as shocked as anyone else that was in my house that night watching. My whole family knew that I was pursuing a Head Coaching job in College Football. My family started to talk me out of coaching after that big game. I wouldn't listen no matter how hard they tried to scare me.
"Jeremy, if you coach then you will get beat by Florida and will be embarrased. I wouldn't coach College Football if I was you!"
"Really? So what would you do if the team that I coached defeated Florida?"
"I really don't know, but that IF will never exist for you!"
I couldn't believe that my own family who put me up to the idea of coaching was now trying to scare me out of it. I already had a meeting set up with a bunch of teams that was looking for a head coach. I mean it was so hard to choose when I saw the list.
Oregon
Ole Miss
Kentucky
Ohio
Toledo
Arkansas
Michigan
Florida State
Texas
Air Force
Notre Dame
I looked up and down the list and just could not think of what team to pick. I was meeting them all in the morning at the Conference Arena. I decided to go to bed and think about it. As I took a shower thoughts of National Championship trophy in my hands in the air ran through my head. I almost started to cry because of the emotion involved with it. I had to figure out which team I wanted to coach. It wasn't easy as I laid my head down to sleep.
The telephone rang in the middle of the night. I woke up and answered but didn't really want to talk, because I thought it would be someone from my family trying to haunt me about my coaching situation. It was actually someone from Oregon who talked to me for a half hour about the Oregon Football team. It really didn't help since I was half asleep and wasn't paying attention to anything they was saying. After we hung up I laid back down and fell asleep.
