    Game # 17 Jan. 16
    @ Assembly Hall
    Illinois(8-10) vs. Michigan Wolverines(10-6)

Michigan up by as many as 18 in 1st half can not hold on to the lead, as the Wolverines drop a heart breaker to the Illini 83-79. The turnover bug hit Michigan in the second half. The game was tied 79-79 in the last minute of play but two back to back turnovers negated any chance of a Michigan win. With this loss, Michigan now goes to 10-7 on the year and 3-2 in the Big 10.

        #7 Wisconsin Badgers(14-4) vs. Michigan Wolverines(11-7)

Michigan proves the upset true, and defeats Wisconsin 79-75. Virtually the biggest win of the year to date for the Wolverines, they are averaging very high numbers in the FG% and 3PT% categories during Big Ten play. Michigan who seemingly was in a scoring drought before entering Big Ten play, has now put up total points of 77,79,80 and 79 en route to a 3-1 record and huge win over nationally ranked Wisconsin. With this win, Michigan now improves to 12-7(5-2) on the year.

Michigan up against the Izzone, the spirit of the Breslin Center and maybe even the legend himself Tom Izzo, go up to the Breslin Center and walk away with with a loss that was one possession away from being a win. Michigan now will drop to 12-8 overall and will fall in the Big Ten standings, now with a conference record of 5-3. Michigan will next be in action in a home game against the Minnesota Gophers January 31.

Michigan up by 5 with 1:30 left can not hold on to the lead as Blake Hoffarber from Minnesota nails the game winning jumper with about 2 seconds left on the clock to beat Michigan 70-68. By far the most devastating loss of the Wolverines season, Michigan now must regroup very quickly and prepare for a game at fiesty #16 Ohio State. With this loss, Michigan falls to 12-9 and 5-4 in the Big Ten. What a season this is turning out to be, so many ups and downs. I must admit that this game is growing on me!

Wow, this looks like a major letdown after the big win against the then-sixth ranked Badgers. Hopefully you can get the team back on track before you end up praying for a bid to the "little dance" instead of the "Big Dance".

Hey doncoryell, thanks for following. Major letdown may be an understatement right now! Two very close defeats and then a major blowout, but who knows. All I know is this game is very fun to play right now though winning would be great.

Michigan needed a win to turn around its three game losing streak and maybe even season, and that is what it got. Strong play from Deshawn Sims and key three point shooting propels the Wolverines to a conference victory over the Nittany Lions of Penn State. Snapping its three game losing streak, Michigan now improves to 13-10 overall, with a conference record of 6-5. With this win, the Wolverines continue their climb in the Big Ten standings. Michigan's season very well could rest in the hands of these next two games against the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. So that is the scenario for the Wolverines next game against the Bucks at Crisler, the Wolverines need to stop the #15 Buckeyes and come away with a win. Only time will tell!

                          #15 Ohio State(19-5) vs. Michigan Wolverines(14-10)

In a game that seen Michigan trail by as many as 20 points, somewhere, somehow the Wolverines rose from within in a must win situation against for a possible shot at the big dance trip. This is by far the biggest win for the Wolverines and showed what kind of team they can be, the heart they can possess. Tied at 69-69 with 11 seconds left, Jarrett Smith takes the inbound pass form Ekpe Udoh and calls for a high pick and roll. Deshawn Sims comes up and picks the Buckeye defender, but Jarrett Smith gets stood up at the foul line, what to do? Using his awareness Smith finds Sims down under the basket with a lob pass and Sims brings it in and lays it up with 3 seconds left and essentially clinching the underdog win for the Wolverines 71-69 and keeping the Wolverines "Big Dance" chances alive! The Wolverines now go to 15-10(8-5) overall and will travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers, Feb. 21.

Minnesota Golden Gophers(14-9) vs. Michigan Wolverines(15-10)

The Wolverines are unable to keep up with the Gophers and fall in this conference game 100-85. It seemed like Minnesota could not miss a shot all night as the Golden Gophers had 6 players in double figures and shot 60% from three point land. It must of been the Gophers night. With this loss Michigan now drops to an overall record of 15-11(8-6) overall and will welcome the Illini to the Crisler Arena Feb. 23.
