Nice Legacy. Hey quick question. I noticed that South Carolina State received a 13 seed and almost upset Kentucky in the 1st round of the tourney. If you can find this, what was SCSU's record and what is their record in your current season?

Georgetown believes they have discovered the next Dikembe Mutombo

WASHINGTON, D.C. - As the bitterness of the blowout loss in last season's title game to Memphis dragged on throughout the offseason, Georgetown coach John Thompson III's first priority was to overhaul his offense to be better suited to run and gun with the faster-paced teams.

But when reviewing the tape of the fiasco in Indianapolis in April, he saw something else that needed correcting.

Interior defense.

That's an off-the-wall notion, since Clifton Quadri and Domonic Braxton have both been defensive stalwarts in their first two years prowling the paint in DC, but something has still been missing. While they aren't slouches when it comes to shotblocking, JT3 saw that his Hoyas are still missing that true eraser down low; an intimidator that makes teams think twice before attacking the basket.

He believes he has found that eraser - 7'1 Akin Okoye, a junior center from Nigeria. During the summer following the loss to Memphis, JT3 and his assistants made the lengthy journey to the capital city of Lagos, where they got a chance to see the 249-pounder in action. They were blown away, and Okoye immediately shot up the top of the list of priorities for the 2012 class for the Hoyas. Although they cannot comment directly on an unsigned prospect, reports close to the Georgetown staff say they believe Okoye, while being very, very raw and perhaps limited offensively, possesses some of the most natural defensive instincts they have ever seen and are salivating at the thought of Okoye and 7'3 Bernie Gunn occupying the front line at the same time once Quadri and Braxton depart.

But while Georgetown may have a leg up in his recruitment because they discovered him, the secret is out. Coaches from Florida State, LSU, and most recently Connecticut have been to Lagos to scout Okoye. An outside observer can already see how this is shaping up: Georgetown and Connecticut going toe to toe for a prospect that could be the next Dikembe Mutombo or Hasheem Thabeet.

Luckily, the coaches won't have to burn frequent flyer miles or make many long distance phone calls to keep in touch with Okoye. The burly Nigerian plans on coming to America for his senior year next year, and is in the process of selecting a school to attend. One school that is rumored to be on his list that would obviously be a great sign for the Hoyas is the Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Maryland, the same school that sent Roy Hibbert to Georgetown in 2004.

Awesome legacy you've got going on here. It's impressive to see what you've done with this Georgetown program and I can't wait to see how you do this year - it's inspired me to post a legacy of my own here.

Also, that 7'1" guy sounds intimidating and like he could be a program-changer for you. Having a defensive stopper like that in the rough and tumble Big East would be huge!

Hoyas are quiet through early signing period
JT3 and company taking it slow in recruiting

WASHINGTON, D.C. - At this time last year, Georgetown was the talk of college basketball after signing four five-star recruits to letters of intent. This time around, there was no such buzz.

In fact there was no buzz at all, as the Hoyas were uncharacteristically silent in the early signing period for recruiting. While the #1 player in the country - Garden Grove (CA) point guard Lakeith Salazar - signed on to play for Arizona, Georgetown has zero commitments as the early signing period ends. But that's not to say they aren't recruiting.

While two of the targets high on Georgetown's board signed elsewhere (5-star D.C. guard Wesley Fletcher signed with Duke and 3-star power forward Gene Clemmons signed with Pitt), the Hoyas have offered two of their three available scholarships to five-star small forward Vernard Morris of West Lafayette, Indiana and five-star point guard Waitari Bynum of New York, New York. Rumors have Georgetown leading Purdue and Indiana for Morris, while Maryland appears to have a slight edge over the Hoyas for Bynum.

In addition to those two, John Thompson III will remain on the trail for a possible third recipient of an offer this year, but if nobody emerges, it would appear that he would be happy banking that scholarship until next year.
