    #18 Wake Forest 95 - UC Riverside 67

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons kept chugging along tonight behind 20 pts from Al Aminu and 18 rebounds from Center Tony Woods. Wake committed a season low 6 turnovers en route to a 28pt blowout. Syracuse 98 - #12 Wake Forest 73

Wake Forest ran into a buzzsaw this afternoon in the Carrier Dome in the form of the Syracuse Orangemen (i know, old school). Syracuse SR PG Johnnie Flynn absolutely killed the Deacons totaling 18pts and 13 assists. "It was the most efficient performance from a PG that I have seen in all my years of coaching. He hit shots when he was open and made the pass when he was covered" - Coach Gaudio.

Al Aminu & James Johnson led the way for Wake with 11pts each but Orange reserve Kris Joseophn chipped in with 18pts off the bench and Wake was handed its 2nd defeat of the year. Up next for the Deac's will be a 2-9 Youngstown St. team.

        #16 Wake Forest 88 - Youngstown St 60

Wake rebounded from its worst loss since the 07-08 season (40pts to Vandy, ouch) to beat the Penguins of YST by 28pts.

Al Aminu's 24 paced the way for the Deacons who got another double-double from Tony Woods. Wake will have one more tune-up game with Western Michigan before heading on the road to Reynolds Colesium to take on the NC State Wolfpack.

Some around the country thought that tonight's game would be a "trap" game for the Deacons. The Demon Deac's raced to an early double-digit lead then quickly saw it evaporate to 4 before a late run pushed the lead to 13 at the break.

SR Forward James Johnson led the way with a season-high 25pts and 14rebs while Aminu chipped in 17 and JR Center Tony Woods had 14pts & 11 rebs. Wake was able to overcome a poor shooting effort from Jeff Teague (1/12) and improved to 12-2. Up next will be their 1st conf game vs NC State.

#16 Wake Forest @ North Carolina State Preview

Wake & NC ST enter tonight's game under different circumstances. Last year it was North Carolina State who won the Regular Season while Wake won the ACC Tournament. This year NC St is finding life much harder without the departed PG Marques Johnson and PF Brandon Costner. They do still have reigning all-everything C JJ Hickson. Last Year Hickson took home almost every honor imaginable while adding 24.1pts 6.5rebs and 1.9 blks. With him back NC St has had an up & down season with their lone bright spot being a win @ LSU.

Wake on the other hand has 4 starters back from last years Elite 8 team and are led by the "Fearsome Foursome" of Jeff Teague, Al Aminu, James Johnson, and Tony Woods. Since their stumble at Syracuse, Wake has run off two straight victories by an average of 28pts. A win tonight could propel the Deac's heading into the ACC season where as a loss could be devestating with UNC looming on the horizon.

Wake's ACC season got off to a bad start last night, falling in OT to the Wolfpack 107-98. It was a close battle througout which saw Jeff Teague miss a buzzer beater as time expired. NC State would start the OT session off with a 8-0 run before the Deacons would hit their first bucket.

NC State deployed a 2-3 zone all game which resulted in Wake settling for the outside shot too often. "7/23 from the 3pt line will not get it done." - Coach Gaudio

Wake must regroup fast because their next ACC battle will be at home vs the #8 ranked Tarheels from UNC. UNC is looking to avenge their Sweet 16 loss to the Deacs a year ago.

                #16 Wake Forest 92 - Coastal Carolina 66

Sandwiched in between NC State and upcoming UNC, the Wake coaches reminded their players that every game counts. Wake responded today with a workman like effort. Despite shooting 3/20 from the 3pt line, Wake attempted 52 Free Throws.

"It was a weird game in that we either settled for a 3 or drove to the rack." - Coach Gaudio

James Johnson led the way with 25 & 9 but still saw a lot of room for improvement. "I missed a lot of free throws (7). That could be the difference between winning and losing in the ACC. " - JJ

Up next will be some home cooking and the #18 ranked UNC Tarheels.

6 starters notched double-digit efforts in Wake's 10pt home win over #23 North Carolina. The Winston-Salem crowd was in a frenzy an hour before the game and helped to energize the Deac's all night. Wake raced out to an early lead behind the sharp-shooting of SG CJ Harris (18pts on 8/11). While not being known for it's defense, Wake limited the front court duo of Ed Davis Jr and John Henson to a combined 14pts and 7 rebs.

"This was a great way to comeback from that heart-wrenching OT loss to State. We showed the kind of defensive focus tonight that we haven't shown in the past. The league is a marathon that wears you down but when you play with effort like this you can expect to be near the top come March" - Coach Gaudio

Up next will be a trip to South Beach to take on The U.

Wake improved to 2-1 in ACC play after a superb 2nd half effort in Miami. The Deac's came out a little flat and found themselves down 2 at the half.

"We didn't do a good job of containing their guards (Rios & Pratt) in the 1st half. Our help defense was atrocious and we seemed content to try to outscore them" - Coach Gaudio

In the 2nd half Wake Forest pushed up the intensity on defense and forced some turnovers which led to easy buckets. Offensively it was the Al Aminu show. During a 5 minute span Aminu scored 17 straight pts for the Deacons that took the Deacs from down 2 to up 14. He ultimately finished with 31.

"Had it been close down the stretch and Al was still in there he could have gotten 40, no problem. He had it all working for him tonight" - Coach Gaudio

Up next will be the Maryland Terps.

                      #16 Wake Forest 94 - #24 Maryland 79

After a slow start, the Demon Deacons found their stride in the 2nd half and buried the Terps 94-79. After falling down 7-0 the Deacs clawed their way back into the game behind the hot hand of SR SG Gary Clark.

"That was the best game Gary has had here. He was our spark and if it wasn't for him we would have lost, plain & simple." - Coach Gaudio

Wake also got 19pts from Al Aminu and 15 from Jeff Teague to improve to 2-1 on the year. Up next will be a trip to Blacksburg, VA to take on the Hokies.
