    ~-chestnutz' California Bears Legacy (CH2k8)-~

Note: I'm mainly writing this on the 2ksports forums, so updates here will be every few days, but there will be a lot of updates when they do come.

    Game: College Hoops 2k8
    System: 360
Team: California Golden Bears (81 ovr)
    Difficulty: MOP
Sliders: I used jdaniels AA ones as a basis, but switched it to MOP and tweaked the sliders a little bit, right now I think I have it at a very realistic setting.

For the recaps, I used several peoples dynasties here as inspiration, so I kind of merged it all and tried to get the best presentation I can. Input is greatly appreciated, and I hope you'll follow!

    California Golden Bears07/08 Season Preview

(Note: Changed the schedule a bunch)

    Non-Conference Schedule

    #3 Memphis
    Cornell
    San Diego St.
    @ Nevada
    #7 Wisconsin
    @ Kansas St.
    UC Davis
    Princeton
    LSU (Christmas Day)
Long Beach St. (Golden Bear Classic, includes ND State and Bucknell as well)

Looks to be a challenging schedule, with a couple in-state games, as well as opening up against one of the top teams in the nation, Memphis, also playing Wisconsin and at Kansas St.

    Starters

    PG So Jerome Randle, 5'9''
    75 ovr, 77 3pt, 92 spd, B potential
Very small but quick as hell. Can hit down the open three, and drive the lane to hand it off to the big boys.
    SG So Patrick Christopher, 6'5''
    75 ovr, 73 3pt, 85 dunk
Good shooter, decent defender, good role player.

SF Sr Eric "Verne" Vierneisel, 6'7''
    67 ovr, 75 3pt
Not very athletic, but a good shooter.
    PF So Ryan Anderson, 6'10''
    82 ovr, 84 3pt, 96 DREB
Preaseason 2nd team All-Pac 10 choice, a very good shooter who can do it all, and will dominate with his size on smaller forwards. Excellent rebounder.

    C Sr DeVon Hardin, 6'11''
    78 ovr, 90 LOWD, 92 DREB, 88 dunkstanding

Premiere defender down low, uses his size to push players around. Needs to develop an offensive game to truly be dominant.

    Others

    PF So Jamal Boykin, 6'7''

    70 ovr
    C So Jordan Wilkes, 7'
    65 ovr
Although not very talented, will be used ahead of others because of his size.
    SF Fr Omondi Amoke, 6'7''
    66 ovr, 70 3pt, 92 dunk
Athletic wingman who is very versatile.

    PG So Nikola Knezevic, 6'2''
    66 ovr

Analysis: Outside of Randle at point, this team has loads of size, which will be needed in the Pac-10. Although predicted to finish 8th in the conference, this team has some great sophmore talent, and their defense will be able to do a lot. Ryan Anderson will have to do very well in order for the Bears to compete in the conference.

The '97 Pac-10 coach of the year, Ben Braun, will be returning for his 11th season with the Bears. This year, he wants to push the tempo and play very tight defense, throwing in a 1-2-1-1 press.

Didn't feel like playing the Cornell game, so just simmed it...

        vs. 2-0 Cornell Big Red
        11/19/07

WIN, 72-67. Very close game as it turns out. Lead 39-37 at halftime, pull it out in second half barely.

Anderson gets POTG, 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 0/4 from three though. Randle has 14 points, 4 assists, and 3/3 from downtown. Hardin finishes with 12 and 6 boards with 4 blocks. For Cornell, SG Gore and SF Wittman both finish with 13. Louis Dale has 5 points and 5 assists.

Next for 2-0 Cal is (2-2) San Diego State. They're 79 ovr (compared to our 81). Play a fast tempo game, like to drive, so we'll probably go with a 2-3 for most of the game, like what we did for Memphis. They have a 3/4 press after every basket, and play very tight. Best player is SF Lorenzo Wade (81), all 5 starters are juniors. Two big men are both 75 ovr.

                Recruit Signing Period

As the signing period starts, Cal lost a recruit, but got one commitment. WIth only 2 schollies to give this year, they're focusing on a center and a SF, with the departure of DeVon Hardin next year. With that said, the 4* center they were going for signed with Massachusetts.

                4* SF Dustin Medina
6'6'', Thousand Oaks CA, #68 ovr, #18 SF
                B+ shooting
                B- skills
                B+ defense
                A- athleticism
                B rebounding
                B+ intelligence
                A- potential
                B size

Cal has been targetting the #9 overall #2 PG, Ronald Garner, but it looks like they won't get him, as they're 4th on his list behind UCLA, USU, and Nevada.

The Bears are now faced with a tough decision for their final scholarship. They can go with another SF, #96, #33 pos Ken Hargett, a 4* with B potential and B+ shot (in fact, he's nearly identical to Garner). Or they can try and pick up a big man. They've shown interest in 3* PF, #50 pos Desmon Galbreath, who is only 6'8'' but has B+ rebounding (not a good shooter), and in 4* C J.J. Terry, who is also only 6'8'', but is the #1 center in this year's class. He has A rebounding, but has Cal 6th on his list.

                      MONDAY NEWS

The new top 25 polls have come out, and to much surprise, California is now ranked. The Bears have been chosen as the #22 team in the nation, a huge accomplishment for this young team. "I'm speechless, we've just been playing our hearts out and it's worked so far. We can't get too confident though, the Pac-10 is a very challenging conference and I expect to lose," said Coach.

Even more amazing, the Bears are #13 in the Coaches Poll.

Good news keeps coming, as with his 32 point performance against KState, Ryan Anderson is now tied with Kyle Hines of UNC-Greensboro for the nation's leading scorer, with 28.7.

Well, I scheduled Wisconsin, Memphis, and LSU because I wanted to play some power conference teams that would be tough opponents. Most of the smaller schools I scheduled because like I said, I mainly write this on 2ksports, and many people have closed legacies there, so I wanted to play some of the teams they use.

I realize I'm winning a lot, and every game I've been making the sliders harder. Right now I think they're about right, I mean I beat Memphis purely because Anderson was a beast, I beat a virtually Brian Butch-less Wisconsin, and a KState team who's best player in the nation didn't play well at all.
