Coaching Career of Dan Stone (CH 2K8)

Been reading pretty much every College Hoops legacy on here while writing my NHL 08 dynasty and it really made me want to do my own since I have the game and it gives me something to do other than NHL 08 all the time (360 wise, not actually all the time, I have a life people :wink Anyways, it'll probably be pretty ugly at first until I find a format I like.

Difficulty: All-American (changed after Tulsa game)
    Quarters: 16 minutes
Sliders: Heelfan's with a couple tweaks
Rules: Must recruit in-state with any small conference school. Once I get to mid-major I can recruit up to half of my recruits from any bordering states as well as in-state. Major all of my players can come from any bordering states. Power I can recruit nationally but half of my recruits must be from either in-state or a bordering state. This is all assuming I don't get fired from my first job.
    Games: Playing all games.

25 Year Old Dan Stone Named New Head Coach of North Florida

Jacksonville, FL - The University of North Florida announced today that they've hired a 25 year old nobody named Dan Stone as their new head coach. When asked about his resume, he said bruntly, "I coached one of the top ranked high school teams in Canada for a few years and sent an application in when I heard that the coaching job was open here thanks to a friend of mine with connections to the school. I didn't expect to actually get the job, but here I am and my job is to try and build this school into a contender in our conference and hey, judging by a lot of your expressions it seems you guys think this is a joke. That's fine by me, guess that means no pressure from you and when I do succeed here I guess I'll be the one laughing at all of you."

Ospreys Lose Season Opener 76-55 to Maryland

As was pretty much expected, the North Florida Ospreys lost their O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic tournament game against the Maryland Terrapins. They started off well actually, trailing by as few as three points with just minutes left in the 1st half but turnovers would allow the Terrapins to gain an 11 point lead going into the half and that pretty much sucked all the energy out of the Ospreys at the beginning of the 2nd half. North Florida's lack of a true big man really hurt them in this game as they would be out rebounded 33-25, but more importantly, the Terrapins would pull down 12 offensive boards to the Ospreys' 4. Maryland's 12 steals and 7 blocks didn't really help the Ospreys either. The Ospreys will be playing Tulsa who lost 72-66 to Hampton tomorrow in the consolation match.

        North Florida Leaders:
Points: PF Justin Cecil - 14
Rebounds: PF Justin Cecil & C James Grimball - 7
Assists: PG Chris Timberlake - 2

        Maryland Leaders:
        Points: C Braxton Dupree - 16
        Rebounds: C Bambale Osby - 7
Assists: PF James Gist - 5

At least your Ospreys did a better job than my Keydets did against the Terps.

Good luck, Coach Stone. You're gonna need it with this bunch.

Indeed I am. Scoring wise we're not that bad, our problem is that we're so damn small and that's going to kill us against any bigger conference team. That and turnovers, Timberlake is the only guy I want to be holding the ball for more than 5 seconds, anyone else, it's gone by the time the 5 seconds is up.

Ospreys Play Huge Against Tulsa, Win 72-54 For 1st Win

The North Florida Ospreys got their first win of the season in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Tournament consolation game against Tulsa. It was also coach Dan Stone's first career college victory. Tulsa would shoot 52% in the 1st half, leading by as much as 6 early on but North Florida would battle back to take the lead with around 5 minutes left in the half, led by Tom Hammonds who scored 13 points in the 1st half and the two teams would trade the lead back and forth for the rest of the half with Tulsa leading by 1 when it was finally done. The 2nd half was a complete reversal of fortune for Tulsa shooting wise as they would struggle the whole half, ending the game at 39% and the Ospreys would take full advantage of their chance, taking an 11 point lead halfway through that they would expand on slowly the rest of the way, eventually winning by 18. Hammonds would end up with 24 for the Ospreys and Kyle Groothuis would be huge off the bench with 8 points and 8 rebounds in 16 minutes of game time. For Tulsa, the only positive on their side was shooting guard Rod Earls who would end the game with 20 points on 9/21 shooting. (Note: Changing the difficulty up to All-American now and probably messing around with the sliders a bit)

              Tulsa Leaders:
Points: SG Rod Earls - 20
              Rebounds: C Jerome Jordan - 10
Assists: PG Brett McDade & SF Ben Uzoh - 5

              North Florida Leaders:

              Rebounds: C James Grimball - 9
Assists: PF James Cecil - 3

Ospreys Get Absolutely Dominated by Gators, Lose 94-49

As completely expected, the Ospreys got absolutely rolled over by the Florida Gators. North Florida wouldn't even get to double digit points until just past the halfway mark of the 1st half and by that time the Gators were already up 18. If the Ospreys can take any positives from the 1st half it would have to be that they didn't allow any Gators to get into double digit points up to that point, though 4 of them did have 8 points. The 2nd half would be more of the same, even as Florida was playing their bench. Gators' power forward Alex Tyus would end the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds in 24 minutes of action and small forward Chandler Parsons would end up with 20 points. Two other Gators would end up in double digit points as well.

                North Florida Leaders:
Points: SG Tom Hammonds - 14
Rebounds: PF Justin Cecil - 6
Assists: PG Chris Timberlake - 4

                Florida Leaders:

Pretty much haha, if you actually look at the real life game recap it matches up pretty closely. Hopefully I can change the 4 OT losses they had into wins and a couple other games too or man will this season be painful.

Ospreys Win 69-63 Over Savannah State

It's a good thing the North Florida Ospreys had a good free throw percentage tonight or else this one would've been right down to the wire. Savannah St. would commit 25 team fouls in the game, totaling to 42 Ospreys' free throw attempts of which they would convert 31.

North Florida would lead by as much as 6 around the halfway point of the 1st half, but they would give the Tigers a few consecutive open looks and would actually surrender the lead before the two teams would go back and forth for the rest of the half with the Ospreys coming out on top 33-32.

The 2nd half would start much like the 1st half ended with both teams exchanging the lead back and forth constantly before both teams decided they wanted to throw up bricks for a few minutes. The Ospreys would break out of their slump first though, going on a 12-2 run to go up 8 with about 7 minutes left in the game. The Tigers would get within 4 a couple times, but they could never get any closer than that.

                      North Florida Top Players:
PF Justin Cecil - 14 PTS, 6 REB
SF Stan Januska - 10 PTS, 4 REB
SG Tom Hammonds - 9 PTS, 5 REB, 2 STL

                      Savannah State Top Players:
                      C Lazarius Coleman - 18 PTS, 5 REB
SG Joseph Flegler - 17 PTS, 3 AST, 3 STL
SF Rod Mitchell - 13 PTS (all scored in the 1st half)

William & Mary Shoots 55%, Beat Ospreys 71-62

North Florida played by far their worst defensive game of the season, and were handed a loss because of it. The Ospreys allowed the William & Mary Tribe to shoot 55% from the field and a ridiculous 53% from 3-point range. Said Coach Stone after the game, "It seemed like all night, we'd either give a guy a wide open lane to run in, receive a pass and put it in or we would leave someone wide open on the perimeter and they would sink the 3. There's no way you can win when 75% of their shots are completely uncontested."

The Ospreys were down 7 at the half and that was thanks largely to Chris Timberlake who was driving past Tribe starter Nathan Mann with ease, forcing their inside men to send him to the line. He would end up with 12 points in the 1st half that including him going 8/8 from the charity stripe. The Tribe would make adjustments at half time though and Timberlake would only score 4 in the 2nd half, finishing with 16. As for Mann, he'd wake up big time, scoring most of his game leading 18 points in the 2nd half, including going 5/6 from 3 point range.

                        William & Mary Top Players:

It was ridiculous, seemed whatever I did, they would foul me. Receive a pass, instant reach in. Take a shot, fouled on the shot. Drive to the hole, big man takes a foul. The refs seemed to be calling even the smallest little things.
