Walk-off single by Howard gives Phils opening day win.

      Location: Citizens Bank Park

      Day: Tuesday April 1,2008

      Washington Nationals(0-1)

      Pitching Matchup:

      vs.
      Cole Hamels(0-0)

      Quick Write-up:
Ahh!!! Opening Day is upon us ladies and gentleman and the excitement is in the Pennsylvania air, well at least around Philly. The NL East Champions look to go for another division crown and possibly a World Series this year. Phillies had to take on Washington for opening day and in the beginning of the game Cole Hamels looked dominant. He had 7 strikeouts and only allowed 1 hit in the first 4 innings. His phil's were up 2-0 entering the 5th when Austin Kearns hit a RBI double bringing Washington within 1. Then the wheels fell off for Cole in the 6th, and he allowed 4 runs, 2 were homeruns from Zimmerman and Milledge, and Washington had a 5-2 lead just like that. But this team is not called the fighting phil's for a reason. Philly responded quickly with 4 runs in the bottom of that same inning, the Phillies struck for 4 as well behind a 2-run homer by Victorino. Washington then scored in the seventh behind a suicide squeeze by Zimmerman but in the 9th the Philly fans were sent home happy. Shane Victorino was walked and then stole 2nd and 2 batters later, Ryan Howard came up and smacked a GW-RBI single right up the middle securing Philly's dramatic opening day win.

      Box Score:

      1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
      WAS 0 0 0 0 1 4 1 0 0 6 11 1
      PHI 0 0 1 1 0 4 0 0 1 7 11 0

      Notable's:

      Milledge 2-5 HR(1)

      Philadelphia:
      Rollins 2-3 2RBI
      Victorino 1-4 HR(1) 2RBI
      Howard 2-5 GW single, 2RBI

            W-Lidge(1-0)
            L-Colome(0-1)

            Quick Write-Up:
One day after the dramatic finish on opening day, the Phillies were at it again with the late inning heroics. Brett Myers was on the mound tonight and was pretty hit or miss. The location seemed to be a key issue and the Philly Fanatics were getting a little frustrated with it. Espically in the 4th inning when Myers hung a 2 strike curveball to Lastings Milledge, who then hit his second homerun of the year. Earlier in the game, after a Lo Duca single in the top of the second, Geoff Jenkins hit his first homerun of the season. Then in the 6th and 7th, Philly stormed back to take a 3-2 lead behind RBI singles from Utley and Howard. But in the 9th, Philadelphia brought in Brad Lidge. Lidge managed to get the first two outs easily but then gave up a single and then an RBI triple to Dimitri Young...yes you are reading this right Dimitri Young. But very similar to last night, late inning heroics sparked again. Rollins managed to get on base after beating out an infield single. Then he stole second and Chase Utley hit in the game-winning single.

            Notable's:
            Washington:
            Milledge 3-4 HR(2) 2B RBI
            LoDuca 1-3 RBI

            Philadelphia:

                S-Lidge(1)

                Quick Write-up:
After two dramatic finishes, the Phillies were riding an early season hot streak. They had hopes of continuing this streak with Jamie Moyer on the mound. The ageless wonder showed today that you don't need a 95 mph fastball to be effective. Just ask Washington. The Phillies got on the board early as Ryan Howard hit his first homerun of the year. This gave Philadelphia an early 2 run lead. In the second, Dimitri Young had an RBI double and then Moyer shut them down. In the 4th inning Feliz gave all the run support Philadelphia would need when he hit his 3 run homerun. But solo homers in the 6th and the 7th. It made the lead 5-3 and made it much closer. So to get more run support the Phillies did an old suicide squeeze with Victorino which worked out to perfection. The play of the game came in the top of the 8th. When Tom Gordon had runners on first and second with one out and only a 2 run lead, he got Austin Kearns to hit into a double play to get out of the inning. In the 8th, Jenkins hit his second homer of the year. Lidge came in the game in the 9th with 2 outs and runners on first and third and struck out Ryan Zimmerman to finish the game.

I think that you're doing a good job with the thread, and the Phils so far.

                      Why the switch in teams?
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read this in english, thank a soldier.

Reds bats explode and just embrass the Phillies.

                            Johnny Cueto(0-0)

                            Quick Write-Up:
The Phillies entered tonight's game riding a modest 3 game winning streak. And the way the game went early, it appeared it would become a 4 game winning streak. Homeruns in the 2nd and 3rd inning by Feliz and Utley gave Philly a 4-0 lead. But in the 4th everything changed. No matter what a Phillies pitcher pitched, a Reds player made contact with. It was such crap, even pitchers Johnny Cueto and Kent Mercker had RBI singles. Big blows came from Brandon Phillips and Ken Griffey Junior. Junior gave the Reds the lead in the 5th and after that Cincinnati just pulled away. It was amazing, to be honest, everytime I got a 0-2 count, the pitcher either walked the batter or hung a pitch over the middle of the plate. The final score was 11-5.

                            Box Score:
