Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies

Howard's blast lifts Phillies past Mets in extras.

Thats right fans, Ryan Howard, who was struggling so much in the first week finally broke out with 2 big homeruns as the Phillies defeated the Mets in 12 innings.

Philadelphia got on the board early when Jayson Werth hit an RBI single in the first to give Philadelphia an early 1-0 lead.

Then in the 3rd Ryan Howard hit his first of two homeruns in the game. It was a 2 run shot off of Pedro Martinez.

Howard lifting off in the 3rd.

In the 4th inning, Jamie Moyer notched an RBI single and the Phil's had a 4-0 lead.

But in the bottom of the 4th, the Mets came storming back behind the bat of David Wright. Wright hit a 2 run HR and then Endy Chavez executed a perfect suicide squeeze to trim the lead to 4-3.

Wright hitting a homerun in the 4th.

Then in the 8th off of Tom Gordon the Mets were able to tie the ball game when Luis Castillo hit an RBI double to score Reyes.

The game remained tied at 4 all the way until the 12th when, with a runner on, Ryan Howard hit his second homerun of the game to give the Phillies a 6-4 lead.

Brad Lidge was able to come into the game in the bottom of the 12th and picked up his 3rd save of the year.

Lidge pumped after getting the save.

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies

Welcome Phillies fans to another edition of Phillies PostGame Live. Tonight the Phillies continued their series with division rival New York.

This game for the most part was an outstanding pitching duel between to really good young pitchers.

On the bump tonight for the Phil's was young starter Kyle Kendrick. After a disappointing first start, Kendrick really stepped his game up tonight. But he was matched pitch for pitch by Mets starter John Maine. The former UNCC standout showed everyone how valuable of a pitcher he is for New York.

The Phillies were able to score first behind a solo homerun by Carlos Ruiz, his first homerun of the year, in the 5th inning.

Ruiz hitting his first homerun of the year in the 5th.

The Mets, however, responded quickly with a homerun of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

The homerun came off the bat of struggling slugger, Carlos Delgado. It tied the game back up at 1.

Delgado hitting a homerun in the 5th.

The two teams traded off runs in the 8th and the game proceeded into extras.

Unlike the last game, which 12 innings, the Mets took the early opportunity and ran with hit when Raul Casanova hit the GW RBI single.

The two teams will finish off the series tomorrow night. Make sure to tune in afterwards to get all the Phillies news and recap from tomorrows game.

        Now here is the boxscore.

          Perez blanks the Phillies.

Welcome everyone to another addition of Phillies Postgame Live. Tonight the Phillies finished their series with the Mets. The matchup saw Adam Eaton taking on Oliver Perez.

Mets were able to get on base early in the game when Angel Pagan had an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

Angel Pagan hitting in the 2nd inning.

Oliver Perez pitched an outstanding game. He did not allow the Phillies hitters to be comfortable at all tonight.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Mets added another insurance run with an RBI single from David Wright.

Perez went 7 2/3 innings before being pulled for relief. He only allowed 3 hits, issued two walks and struck out 8.

Oliver Perez pitched a great game for the Mets.

Billy Wagner came into the game in the 9th and shut the door to pick up his first save of the season.

The final score was 2-0. The Phillies finally get to go back home to take on the Chicago Cubs. Coverage begins tomorrow with a pregame edition of SportsNite.

Re: A story of the Fighting Phillies

It is time for another edition of SportsNite. Welcome Phillies fans. Well the Phillies have finished their 7 game roadtrip and return back to Philadelphia.

To welcome them back will be the NL Central leaders, the Chiacgo Cubs.

Philly has dropped two straight games but have their ace on the mound for game 1. Cole Hamels has a 1-0 record so far this year and the last game he pitched he was pretty good.

"He just has to get back into rhythm. Its early in the season but we trust Hamels to go out there every time and pitch great" said Manuel about his ace.

Here are the pitching match-ups for this weekend series.

            Friday April 11, 2008
            Jason Marquis(0-0, 1.28)

            vs.
            Cole Hamels(1-0, 5.25)

            Saturday April 12, 2008
            Carlos Zambrano(1-0, 3.95)

            vs.
            Brett Myers(1-0, 3.00)

            Sunday April 13, 2008
            Ryan Dempster(1-0, 1.38)

            vs.
            Jamie Moyer(1-0, 4.15)

Folks, I am really looking forward to Saturday's match-up. 2 great pitchers square off against one another. Both Zambrano and Myers are both beasts so I hope everyone has purchased their tickets.

Now here is who the Cubs should look out for in this series.

            Ryan Howard

Thats right, the coverboy himself, Ryan Howard. His bat was pretty much the only bat that showed up in the New York series. He has hopes of continuing the hot hitting against the Cubs pitching.

If Chicago wants to win they better keep this guy in check.

Now here is who the Phillies need to be careful with.

            Derrek Lee

Lee is to the Cubs what Howard is to the Phillies. He has been hitting a hot bat recently with a .371 average. He also has 4 homeruns this season.

Lee is dangerous. The Phillies have to face a really tough lineup but if Lee is killing the ball a win is almost out of the question.

Well its almost time for baseball. Time to pass it to the guys in the booth. Make sure to tune in tonight when the game is over for the Phillies Postgame Live.

            Enjoy the games!

Unfortunately.you ran into bad pitching match-ups in the Mets series, you'll get em' next time.In the meantime, you have to find a way to get your rotation synched with the rest of the league, you don't want to keep putting your 3,4 and 5 guys up against the other teams 1 and 2.Thats a recipe for disaster

                  Howard's blast rescues struggling bullpen.

What an intense game we just witnessed folks. Welcome everyone to another edition of Phillies Postgame Live.

The Phillies began their series with NL Central leading Chicago. The Phillies managed to jump on the Cubs early when Pedro Feliz grounded into a double play but Pat Burrell scored in the second inning.

In the 3rd, Philly added two more runs behind an RBI single from Howard and an RBI groundout from Pat Burrell. Burrell is still in the midst of one of the worst slumps in his career as he is hitting around a .100 average.

Cole Hamels was electric early in the game, only allowing 2 runs through 5. One of the runs came from an Aramis Ramirez solo shot.

Hamels pitched a very strong game.

Hamels fell into some trouble in the 7th and was relieved by Ryan Madison. Madison apparently forgot how to pitch that one inning allowing 6 runs total with the big blow coming from Ryan Theriot. Theriot hit a 2 run single which gave the Cubs a 6-5 lead. They added 2 more that inning and led 8-5.

In the bottom of the 8th, Feliz hit his second homerun of the game, (his first came in the 6th), and made the score 8-6.

Then in the 9th, the Cubs had closer Kerry Wood on the mound, but he allowed Victorino to get on base with a bunt single. Victorino then stole second, then later scored behind an RBI single from Chase Utley.

With Utley on first, the big man Ryan Howard stepped up to the plate. He did not take any time has he hit the first pitch he saw from Wood into the first row of the upper deck in right.

                  Howard being congratulated by teammates.

One question has been brought up though. A big weakness has been spotted on the Phillies team and that would be their bullpen. Another night another struggling outing from this team but how long will it take before management makes a move. Will it be a trade or will they find a fix internally.

Well only time will tell but for now here is your box score.

Dude, you need to sit Madson for a while,he's just been terrible.Matter of fact,if your starter dosen't go 7 you have a dicey situation on your hands no matter who's in there.Lidge will settle down and Romero's been money so I think your good 8-9.
