    Wolfpack cruise against Eagles.
"Eugene and defense continue to impress"

    AT

    Article by: Dale Gribble

    Raleigh, NC-
NC State looked to continue their hot streak against the struggling Boston College Eagles. "When your hot, your hot. Why would you want to stop?" says Jamelle Eugene prior to the game. And talk about being hot. Eugene has already rushed for more than 500 yards and has over 100 receiving yards. "I just try to do the best for my team. When they call my number, I go in there and do my job and right now...Im doing my job" said Eugene.

The first half of the Boston College versus NC State game turned into a big defensive battle. The only touchdown came from a 78 yard interception return by senior captain Jeremy Gray. "Man, when I saw that ball come my way, my eyes got all big. I knew that if I would have caught that, I would be gone" said Jeremy Gray. Gray is the definition of a lockdown corner for NC State.

Jeremy Gray taking it to the "barn".

The Eagles, however, could not keep up their end of the defensive battle in the second half, as NCSU scored twice in third quarter. One was a field goal and one was a 43 yard touchdown pass to Donald Bowens from Daniel Evans.

NC State was able to wrap up the game in the fourth, although they allowed the Eagles to get on the board. NC State pushed their record up to 5-1 as they head to their bye week. "Im proud of this team, they've showed the world what hard work can get you. They have earned this bye week" said O'Brien. The Wolfpack better enjoy the break because they have their date with destiny on Thursday October 16th, when the 14th ranked Seminoles of Florida State make an appearance in Carter Finley. Tickets are in limited supply so hurry up and grab them while you can.

        ACC Midseason Report Card
"Halfway through the season, find out how your team is doing now"

1.Grade:A+; With a record of 5-0 and a national ranking of #14, Florida State appears to be the head of the class once again.
Through 5 games the defense has only allowed 41 points.
        Key Upcoming Games:@NCSU, @#21 GT, vs #18Clemson.

2.Grade:A+; Behind an amazing defense, GT has put themselves back on the map. An undefeated record and a national ranking. Led by sophomore QB Josh Nesbitt many believe GT will battle for the ACC title this year.
        Key Upcoming Games: @#18Clemson, vs#14FSU, @#1UGA

        3. Grade:A; Other than a heart-breaking 24-23 loss to USC, the Virginia Cavaliers have been nothing but remarkable. They are 2-0 in conference play and have only allowed 64 total points.
        Key Upcoming Games:@#21 GT, vs#18Clemson, @VT

        4. Grade:A-; After a key win against Clemson, the Terrapins have put themselves in good position in the ACC. But tough losses to MTSU and UVA have them just a little behind the elite's of the conference.
Key Upcoming Games: vsNCSU, @VT; vs#14FSU

5.Grade:A-; After a tough one point loss at home to Maryland, the Tigers have dropped for the top of the ACC. But everyone knows that Clemson is still probably the best team in the conference. Look for them to be back in it by season's end.
        Key Upcoming Games:vs#21GT, @#14FSU,@UVA

6.Grade:A; Honestly, who thought that NC State would be here at this point in time. Some key upsets over South Carolina and South Florida have put them here and they were 16 seconds from being undefeated at this point.
        Key Upcoming Games: vs#14FSU, @Maryland

7.Grade:B-; Everyone though that Virginia Tech would be in the hunt for the ACC title once again. But after losses to Georgia Tech and Nebraska, it will be tough for the Hokies to make it back to the title game.
Key Upcoming Games: @#14FSU, vs Maryland, vsUVA

8.Grade:C; With a tough early schedule its understandable that Miami is 2-3, but to loss to both in state rivals and to loss to Texas A&M, things are not looking up for the Hurricanes. Maybe next year.
Key Upcoming Games: @UVA, vsVT, @#21GT

9.Grade:C-; Many thought that Wake had a chance to win the ACC this year but following losses to Ole Miss and Florida State, those chances are pretty much out the window.
Key Upcoming Games:vs#18Clemson, @ Maryland, vs UVA

10.Grade:C-; Well Tar Heel fans, basketball season is right around the corner. 3 losses in a row has UNC at the bottom of the ranks in the ACC.
Key Upcoming Games: @UVA, vs #21 GT, vs NCSU

11.Grade: D; Even with the school being represented on the cover of the game, these Eagles are not flying high. Losses to GT, UCF and NCSU has them barely out of last place.
Key Upcoming Games: vs VT, vs #18 Clemson, vs Maryland.

12.Grade: D; Well at least Duke has a win. Basketball season can not get here soon enough for some.
        Key Upcoming Games:vs NCSU, @ #18 Clemson, @ VT

NC State earns national ranking after upset of Florida State.
"Wolfpack rally in the 4th to earn upset"

          VS

          Article by: Ron Burgundy

          Raleigh, NC-
Many believe that this could be the biggest upset of the season. No one gave the Wolfpack a chance against heavily favored Florida State and early on Florida State had it rolling.

The Seminoles jumped out to a 21-3 in the first quarter behind 3 touchdown receptions by Carr. NC State's defense then stepped it up once again and shut down the Seminoles. State's defense forced 6 Florida State turnovers, 5 interceptions and a fumble.

At halftime, Florida State still had a 21-10 lead but you could just feel that the momentum was shifting to NC State's favor.

Freshman Dominique Ellis having the game of his life.

NC State brought the game back within a point as the 3rd quarter had ended then took the lead with 6:38 to play when Matt Kushner caught a 2 yard touchdown pass from Daniel Evans. But then FSU tied the game back up when T. Carter intercepted a Daniel Evans pass and took it 59 yards for a touchdown.

The score was 28-28 and the Wolfpack were held to a 3 and out. The Seminoles had the ball with a little over 2 minutes left in the game. Then with 2 minutes and 10 seconds left in the game, a loud roar was heard all the way back at the campus when Dominique Ellis jumped in front of a Ponder pass and took it to the barn. NC State claimed a 35-28 lead and never gave it back up. NC State is now in the top 25 for the first time since Philip Rivers left.

"This was hugh for our guys. I told them in the locker room that they could beat anyone they just have to put effort into it" said coach O'Brien about the upset. #22 NC State will be on the road for the next game as they invade the home of the Maryland Terrapins.
