The Start of History (Madden 09)

AP WIRE - It was announced today that head coach John Shell has decided to retire from the college ranks and move up to the National Football League. Going into his 2nd year at the University of Minnesota, John has decided to leave that position solely because he has clearly gotten some better offers from the NFL. More will be available later on today.

AP NEWS - It was announced just moments ago that John Shell will be taking over as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Other teams that were in negotiations were the Lions, Raiders and Panthers. However, Coach Shell will start a new journey with the Dolphins.

              OD News - Season Preview
After finishing as the laughing stock of the 2007 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins organization knew it had to make some changes. The first and biggest came with the addition of new head coach John Shell. After Shell was acquired it was draft time. The Dolphins draft looked like this:

              1

              1

              Jake Long

              T

              Michigan

              Hampton

              Jalen Parmele

              RB

              Toledo

              195

              Donald Thomas

              G

              6

              204

              Lex Hilliard

              RB

              Montana

              7

              245

              Lionel Dotson

              DE

              Arizona

The draft was very kind to the Dolphins as the Dolphins were rated as having one of the best drafts of recent years. Look for Long and Henne to come in and make impacts right away. As far as the season is concerned, the Dolphins are definitley in a winnable division. As long as they can take care of the Patriots and newly founded Jets, thanks to the addition of Brett Favre. Ted Ginn Jr. is out for the enitre year due to a broken ankle suffered on the last play of the first half against the Saints. RB's Ronnie Brown and the never ending Ricky Williams look to lead a solid ground attack for the Dolphins. On the defenisive side of the ball, look for Joey Porter to be dominant along with newly acquired John Lynch.

Dolphins are over-matched, defeated by Jets 37-14.
Jets' Favre throws for 400yds and 5 TD's en route to a win

RB Ronnie Brown and the Dolphins offense were unable to gain anything through the air or ground all day.
