I am actually in year 10 with my legacy, I will give a quick recap here and if anyone actually wants to read the entire thing can go check out Coach Akpan's career on 2k forums.Tags: None -
Re: COACH AKPNAS LEGACY CONTINUES (2K8 HOOPS)
COACH AJ AKPAN'S BIO
Coach Akpan grew up in Las Vegas Nevada. Never really a great player, AJ knew his chances for a college scholarship were slim. So instead he stayed home and went to school at UNLV. One day well playing pickup ball with some of the guys from the team AJ was noticed by Coach Kruger. Coach Kruger asked AJ to start practicing with the team with the chance to walkon. However a month into it, AJ blew out his knee and would never be able to play again. Instead he became a grad assistant coach under Coach Kruger. After serving on the staff until the age of 24 he accepted his 1st Head Coaching job at New Hampshire University.
In Coach Akpan 1st season he led the Wildcats to a 23-10 record, a American East Championship and a 1st round showing in the NCAA tourney. Season 2 was a down season as the Wildcats and Coach Akpan struggled going 14-17. However the University of San Francisco had a opening and were impressed with this young coach from Las Vegas. So they offered Coach Akpan the head coaching job. Coach Akpan didn't disappoint guiding the Don's to a 30-7 record and Elite 8 showing in the Big Dance. With most of his team returning, Coach Akpan won his 1st National Championship in year 2 with the Don's going 29-10. With a Top-15 recruiting class and his top-2 scorers coming back, Coach Akpan led the Don's again to the National Title game and 2nd National Title. Again Coach Akpan landed a Top-10 class however once again other schools took notice and Oregon State University came calling. The Beavers were coming off a 4 win season but had talent already on the team. In Coach Akpan 1st season with the Beavers he led them to a 20-15 record and 2nd round appearence in the NCAA Tourney. In year 2 Coach Akpan led the Beavers to a 27-12 record and again took his team to the National Championship Game. After a thrilling win, every team in the nation with a opening was calling Coach Akpan offering a contract. Texas Tech was one of those schools. TTU had tired once hiring a legendary coach in Coach Knight but this time they were getting a 33 yr old coach with 3 National Titles to his name and a great ability to recruit the nations best players.
In his first year at Texas Tech, Coach Akpan led the Red Raiders to 2nd place Big 12 finish but did beat rivial Texas in the Big 12 Tourney Championship to land a #4 seed. Many experts picked the Red Raiders to make a run at the championship and Coach Akpan didn't disappoint. The Red Raiders went 27-12 helping Coach Akpan to his 4th title in 5 seasons. In year 2 with their top-2 big men returning including the Defensive player of the year and a Top-10 recruiting class Coach Akpan led the Red Raiders to a Final 4 matchup vs San Diego State(one of the schools that offered a job after San Francisco and Oregon State). Well SDSU got its revenge as they went on to win the National Title leaving Coach Akpan with yet another impossible decision. With a Top-2 recruiting class coming in including the top 2 bigmen in the nation and the #1 overall player(#1 SG) many figured it would be a lock for his return to Lubbock. However again many schools came calling(Louisville,DePaul,W.Virginia,Auburn,Miss St,Clemson,BC,Wisconsin,CAL) but it was actually a school close to Coach Akpans heart that actually won the bidding war. After paying a 10 million dollar buyout, Coach Akpan was introduced as the next head coach of the UNLV Running Rebels...............

Re: COACH AKPNAS LEGACY CONTINUES (2K8 HOOPS)
UNLV KICKS OFF SEASON WITH INSTATE WIN
Coach Akpan known for his uptemp play put the "Running" back into the Rebels name after just 1 game. Going up against the instate rival Nevada Wolfpack was probably the extra incentive the players needed. In the 1st half the Rebels hit 4/7 3pt led by D. Poopola who scored 10 pts on 2/3 3pt shooting leading them to a 45-36 lead. In the 2nd half A. Zeigler stepped up hitting back to back 3's and P. Daniels dominated the post scoring 12 of his team high 19 pts well being name Player of the Game. FINAL SCORE 85-66.
After the game we caught up with Coach Akpan to hear his thoughts on tonights actions.
"Well I thought the starters played great. Zig,Poo and Legs(Zeiger,Poopola,Legge) shot the ball extremely well hitting 7/13 3pt. However Mint and Mims are going to need to step it up and give us some offense off the bench (combined 1/10 3pt). I was also very impressed with Daniels. I believe the combo of Hoskins/Chiles and Daniels/Thomas are going to give us a dominant post game all year. Chiles did a great job coming off the bench in a 6th man role to score 8 pts and grab 8 rbs.

Re: COACH AKPNAS LEGACY CONTINUES (2K8 HOOPS)
UNLV SURVIVES 1ST ROUND UPSET AND WINS HOME TOURNEY
In the opening round action the Rebs took on Grambling. Many experts figured this to be a blowout but the Tigers came to play. Led by 6'10 Senior M. McCleod 12 pts in the 1st half, UNLV found themselves trailing going into the locker room 43-45. However in the 2nd half D. Poopola who had struggled going 0/5 from beyond the arc, found his rythem hitting 4/6 3pt to give the Rebels a 8 pt lead with only 2 mins to play. But again the Tigers clawed their way back hitting back to back 3's of their own. With only 12 seconds left down by 2 and with his team with the ball Coach Akpan called a timeout. "Alright men heres the plan. The play called for Zig(Zeigler) to take the ball to the top of the key and dish to Poo(Poopola) on the wing who would take the open 3 if it was there or hit someone in the post for a the 2pt and we would play overtime. Zig started the play but found the Tigers had other plans as they had Poo double teamed so he instead it J. Chiles in the post and rolled off on a screen set by Legge. Chiles found Zig wide open at the oppossite wing who turned and fired the wide open 3pt. The ball swished through the net at the buzzer giving the Rebels their 2nd win of the season and a spot in the BlackJack Championship game. FINAL SCORE 90-89.
Poopola led the Rebels with 26 pts on 4/10 3pt. Zeigler finished with 12 pts 5 asst and J. Hoskins had a double double with 11 pts 12 rebs. The Tigers were led by McCleod's 26 pts 10 reb.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The championship game didn't offer the same excited or drama as the Rebels took on the Purple Eaters of Niagara. The Running Reb's continued to show their explosive offense outscoirng Niagara 51-32. In the 2nd half Coach Akpan went to his bench as they put it in cruise control. FINAL SCORE 89-68. Chiles was named player of the game scoring 23 pts 9 reb and 3 blks off the bench. D. Poopola scored 16 pts on 3/7 3pt shooting and was named MVP of the tourney avg 21 pts hitting 7/17 3pt.

UNLV WIN STREAK CONTINUES
Taco Bell Arena was a packed house for this Friday Night matchup. Coach Akpan is very familar with Boise State as his older brother Andy played his college ball at Boise before taking over as the head coach 10 years later (a former 2k8 CH Legacy that is posted at 2k forums) The Broncos came out strong taking a 8 point lead but the Running Reb's battle back and actually took a 40-32 lead into the half. In the 2nd half UNLV did get some bad news as leading score D. Poopola injuried his ankle forcing him to miss the rest of the game. However Freshman W. Thomas stepped up with his best game of the year with 13 pts 6 reb 3 blks off the bench to help the Rebels to a FINAL SCORE 72-61 W. Leggee was named POG with 16 pts and 9 rebs. The Broncos were led by E. Sowers and S. Gaskel who scored 16 points each.

Re: COACH AKPNAS LEGACY CONTINUES (2K8 HOOPS)
COACH AKPAN CURRENT TEAM LOSES TO FORMER TEAM
Even though there are no former players left on the team, Coach Akpan definetly left his mark on this program as they continue to recruit very well. The Dons are led by a pair of twin brothers PG T. Nastiff and SG B. Nastiff. The Rebles feel behind early 48-59 as they failed to contain the Nastiff brothers who combined for 16 pts in the 1st half. In the 2nd half the Rebels narrowed the deficit but still were not able to close the gap as the Dons continued to hit from beyond the arc. FINAL SCORE 88-94
Poopola bounced back from his ankle injury to lead the Rebels with 21 pts on 2/7 3pt shooting. The Dons were led by T. Nastiff with 17 pts 4 asst 2/2 3pt and B. Nastiff 15 pts 2/3 3pt. As a team the Dons shot 10/28 3pt.
UP NEXT INSEASON RECRUITNG UPDATE THEN A MATCHUP WITH #1 (5-0) OREGON STATE.

Re: COACH AKPNAS LEGACY CONTINUES (2K8 HOOPS)
Coach Akpan entered the season with 2 scholarships. His 1st priority was to make sure he signed the best instate player coming out of Nevada. His 2nd was to sign the best availalbe player at PF. He came close in both goals. Here are next years incoming freshman.
6'7 Fransico Soson is a PF from Fontane CA. He was rated #14 overall and #2 PF. He is a All-American 5* recruit.
6'5 Raphael Burton is a PF from Las Vegas NV. He was Nevada BB and was rated 4* #97 overall and #21 pos.Comment

Hope you enjoy reading this legacy as much as I do writing it.
I probably won't have time to play or post the Oregon State game until Tues but as soon as I do it will get posted here. I am proud of how well the Beavers are playing as they do have a roster loaded with seniors that were my Top-5 recruiting class.Comment
