Top 5 Stories Entering the 2008 Season.

        5. How will NE far with the loss of Tom Brady?
Tom Brady suffered a season ending injury during the preseason so how will the team that almost went undefeated be able to manage.

        4. Will the rookie QB's do well in their first season?
Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco are starting for their respective teams at the beginning of the season, will it be a magical season?

        3. Will the Cowboys saga ever end?
After a disappointing loss to the Giants in the 2008 playoffs, will "America's Team" be able to make it back to the promise land in the tough NFC East?

        2. Can the Giants repeat?
Will New York be able to go for another super bowl run. Eli Manning impressed many in that victory but the retirement of Michael Strahan and the injury to Osi Umenyiora lead to serious questions.

        1. Will Brett Favre take the Jets to the promise land?
The summer soap opera has come to an end and Brett Favre is back in football. But he is no longer a Packer, as he now resides in New York. Can the New York Brett's make it to the Super Bowl?

          2008 Carolina Panthers Season Outlook

Can Jake Delhomme come back to form?
Panthers QB Jake Delhomme is coming off the serious injury last season and is looking to bring the Cats back into the hunt in the NFC. With Mushin Muhammed coming back to Charlotte, and Steve Smith still in uniform, can Jake win comeback player of the year?

First Round draft picks look to make an impact.
Jonathan Stewart and Jeff Otah are making their Panthers debuts and are hoping to make an immediate impact. Otah will be the starting Right Tackle for Carolina has Stewart joins running back DeAngelo Williams in the backfield.

Can the Panthers make a run this year?
On paper this is a really balanced team. Up and down the board the Panthers may have all the pieces that could push them over the top. It all falls on the shoulders....well arm of Jake Delhomme. And the Panthers also need a big season out of Julius Peppers.

Overall the Panthers have been here before. But they have been known to fall short. If they can play good early they will be off to the races, but they need to establish the run and utilize Steve Smith.

Prediction: 11-5 (1st in NFC South)

Super Bowl Prediction: Pittsburgh vs New York

Panthers hold on to top the Bolts.
Carolina's defense steps up to knock off San Diego.

                      AT

                      1st Quarter
Carolina won the coin toss but elected to defer to the second half so the Chargers got the ball to start the game off. Phillip Rivers looked very sharp early has he was getting good yards in the first drive. But one of his passes landed right in the hands of Jon Beason.

Carolina gained the ball after the interception and drove it all the way down field for a DeAngelo Williams 6 yard TD. The drive took 4 minutes and 17 seconds.

Then both SD and Carolina traded punts to the end of the 1st quarter.

                      Score: Carolina 7-San Diego 0.

                      2nd Quarter
The Chargers managed to put points on the board in the beginning of the second half when Nate Kaeding made a 40 yard field goal with 9:07 to go.

Then Carolina got the ball back and drove it to the Carolina 32, put they Delhomme could not connect with Steve Smith in the endzone, so they had to settle for a field goal attempt by John Kasay which feel short.

The Chargers drove the ball again into teh red zone where Carolina had a nice defensive stand to hold the Chargers to another Nate Kaeding field goal.

Carolina was going to try and score late in the second half but Delhomme was intercepted. San Diego managed to turn that turnover into points when Rivers connected with Gates who wide open in the end zone.

                      Score: SD 13-Carolina 7.

                      3rd Quarter
The Panthers began the second half behind but after a nice opening drive, Jake Delhomme gave the ball off to DeAngelo Williams for a one yard touchdown run, his second of the game.

The Chargers were forced to punt after a 3 and out.

Carolina was driving down field when, again, Jake Delhomme threw another interception while trying to connect with Steve Smith.

Julius Peppers has 2 sacks and a forced fumble to stop a Chargers drive.

                      Score: Carolina 14-SD 13.

                      4th Quarter
Carolina had a 4 minute drive to begin the 4th quarter as they drove down field into the Chargers red zone. This time Delhomme handed the ball off to Johnathan Stewart for a 3 yard touchdown to give the Panthers an 8 point lead.

San Diego was unable to get anything going as they were forced to punt.

Carolina manages to run the clock out.

                      Final: Carolina 21-SD 13.

                      Player Of The Game

                      DeAngelo Williams

                      Grades

                      Quarterback-
All in all Delhomme played a pretty sloppy game but he managed to make some big 3rd down completions to move the chains. C

                      Running Backs-
Williams and Stewart both played great. Scoring 3 touchdowns is always a great game. A

                      Wide Recievers-
While they did not get into the endzone, the receivers did a pretty good job for the most part. B-

                      Offensive Line-
Delhomme was not sacked and the Panthers rushed for 142 yards, not a bad outing. A-

                      Defensive Line-
They could not get pressure until the second half, but that was when Peppers woke up. B-

                      Linebackers-
They kept LT in check for most of the game, and Beason had an interception. B

                      Secondary-
Only 1 touchdown was given up, the secondary really tightened it up in the second half. Gamble shut down Chambers late in the game. B

                      Special Teams-
Kasay did miss a long field goal but Baker had 2 nice punts and Mark Jones had a pretty nice return. C+

                      Coaching-
John Fox never got out of his hard nose football mentality and that led to the Panthers victory. B+

                      Overall: B
While the Panthers did win, their is always room for improvement.

Very nice. Now let's see a great season! Anything less than homefield advantage is a disappointment!

                              Forte too much for Carolina.
Chicago's rookie back runs over Carolina defense.

                              AT

                              1st Quarter
The first quarter was completely dominated by the Bears. The Panthers only managed 9 yards on 2 drives as the Bears defense was as stingy as ever.

The Bears managed to get a Robbie Gould 29 yard FG to give the Bears the early lead.

                              1st Quarter Score: Bears 3, Panthers 0

                              2nd Quarter
The bears defense was still as stingy as the Panthers were still unable to get anything going. The Bears added another Robbie Gould FG to give them a 6 point lead.

The Panthers forced the Bears inside their own five yard line but that did not bother Chicago one bit as Matt Forte took the sweep play to the left and 97 yards later was in the endzone.

Carolina managed to get on the board late in the second quarter when Jake Delhomme found Gary Barnidge in the back of the endzone to help Carolina get back in the game.

                              2nd Quarter Score: Bears 13, Panthers 7

                              3rd Quarter
The Panthers were able to take a lead in the 3rd quarter when Delhomme found Steve Smith in the end zone with a 6 yard pass but the lead could not be sustained.

The lead was back on the Bears side when Matt Forte rushed it in from 2 yards out as the Bears drove all the way down field.

                              3rd Quarter Score: Bears 19, Panthers 14

                              4th Quarter
Delhomme managed to throw 3 interceptions in the 4th quarter as the Bears would not allow a come back.

Matt Forte managed to push across his 3rd touchdown of the game when he rushed it in from 1 yard out.

Final Score: Bears 28, Panthers 14

                              Panthers Grade Breakdown
                              Passing:
While Delhomme had 2 touchdown passes, he made to many mistakes that allowed for the Bears to finish the Panthers off. C

                              Rushing:
Pathetic game by the running backs. They can not break a tackle to save their lifes. D+

                              Recieving:
While Steve Smith had a nice little game, drops haunted the Panthers. C+

                              Offensive Line:
Again pathetic. They just could not open up any rushing lanes and Delhomme was sacked 4 times. F

                              Defensive Line:
While they did have 2 sacks, Forte was able to get through alot. C-

                              Linebackers:
                              190 rushing yards allowed. F

                              Secondary:
While Orton was pretty efficent, the secondary did not give up anything big. B-

                              Special Teams:
Baker had a soild game but Kasay missed another field goal which led to the rising of some sliders. C

                              Coaching:
Well the offense did okay, the defense could not stop the run. D+

                              Overall: C-
While the Panthers did manage to get back in the game in the 3rd quarter, poor play on both sides allowed for the Bears to pull away.
