Trade rumor in Toronto
It is believed that Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke is looking to move forward Jason Blake. Now this comes a day after Blake record a hat trick in a 5-0 route of the Anaheim Ducks. But Burke claims it has nothing to do with him not performing well, and it has nothing to do with the cap. "Jason's undisciplined play is what has led me to want to move him" Stated Burke. I'm sick of being shorthanded all the time because Jason can't dish out a clean hit. But then again... The number of times he's been slashed is numerous. Blake may only have a few games left with the leafs if he doesn't smarten up. Burke also said that the goalie controversy will most likely be solved until the deadline. If CuJo performs well he will stay, and Kolzig will move, but if CuJo can't handle it he will be moved, with Kolzig being brought up.

Leafs sign free agent prospect Shawn Matthias
The Toronto Maple Leafs signed one of the biggest potential free agents available today. GM Brian Burke was proud to announce that they had managed to snag Shawn Matthias for a 3 year deal that will see him make 700k/year over the next 3 years. When reached for comment Matthias had the following to say - "I was extremely happy to sign the contract with the Leafs. I hope that I can be a big part of the success I hope to have here." "One of the biggest factors in this signing was that Toronto is looking like a competitor this far, and when thats the case late in october, there might be a chance" he joked.
Matthias (pictured) was a star throughout his junior career with the Belleville Bulls over 4 seasons, where he picked up 188 points.

Goalie Update in T.O
Olaf Kolzig will be coming in to back up Martin Gerber for the month of November, and possibly more. To add even more to the Goalie Controversy, Vesa Toskala may be ready to play by the end of December.
