GO SENS GO! (Ottawa Senators EHM 2007 Dynasty)

Hello all. I have recently become re-introduced to the great game that is EHM 2007 and after reading some of the great hockey diaries on here, i've decided to put my two cents in the pot.

Basically i'll be using EHM 2007 with the updated 2008/2009 rosters, so let's see if i can make my Senators better than they are this year in real life.

Up next i'll post roster, season expectations and other random info!.

I hope you all enjoy the ride!!

      2008/2009 Roster

      GOALIES

Martin Gerber - Obviously a key player on this Senator team. Dubbed to be the man to replace long time goalie Ray Emery after he was banished from the team. He has a strong glove and great anticipation that will help him most likely be the teams starter this season.

Alex Auld - Solid backup to Gerber, could become the starter midway through the season if "Baby Food" struggles.

      DEFENSEMEN

      Filip Kuba
      Anton Volchenkov
      Brendan Bell
      Chris Phillips
      Alexandre Picard
      *Jason Smith

Not very solid obviously on the defensive end. No more Wade Redden, no more Andrej Meszaros the team will have to rely on the play of Filip Kuba and Anton Volchenkov. Jason Smith will most likely start the year on the DL with a leg injury so look for the Sens to look to there farm system for a replacement.

      FORWARDS

      Jason Spezza
      Dany Heatley
      Daniel Alfredsson

Obviously the Sens best three players. These three will have to have 3 outstanding years respectively for this team to succeed. Long time captain Daniel Alfredsson may be on the decline, so the team will look for the other two to step up even more and carry this squad.

      Mike Fisher
      Antoine Vermette
      Chris Kelly
      Chris Neil
      Dean McAmmond
      Nick Foligno
      Sean Donovan
      Jarko Ruttu
      *Ryan Shannon
      Ilya Zubov
      Jesse Winchester
      Christoph Schubert.

O, how the mighty have fallen. This team is a far cry from the one that reached the Stanley Cup Finals a few years ago, and outside of it's big three there is no clear cut guy who will step up and take control of this team. If none of these guys can find there niche it will be a long season for the fans in Kanata, Ontario...

Awww, I thought you were gonna play with the new guys Comrie, Campoli and Leclaire.
It'll be interesting to see what you do with the team.
Redden was a geezer anyway, Kuba is comparable to Meszaros.
Anyway, sorry for the bashing, and good luck!

            2008/2009 Lines
            Line 1

            Dany Heatly
            Jason Spezza
            Daniel Alfredsson

            Defensive Line 1

            Filip Kuba
            Chris Phillips

            LINE 2

            Dean McCammond
            Mike Fisher
            Chris Neil

            DEFENSIVE LINE 2

            Anton Volchenkov
            Jason Smith

            LINE 3

            Christoph Schubert
            Chris Kelly
            Sean Donovan

            DEFENSIVE LINE 3

            Brendan Bell
            Alexandre Picard

            LINE 4

            Kaspar Daugavins
            Peter Reign
            Jarko Ruutu

As you can see, there is no defensive line number 4. That is a bit of a dilema that the Ottawa Senators face in this upcoming season. Either the defensive players they have now will mix and match, or some trades will have to be pulled off, or they will go from within the system.

Line 4 on the offensive side looks fairly interesting, Kaspar Daugavins and Peter Reign had great training camps and were offered spots on the NHL team. The Sens will go into the season with this lineup to see how they fare!!

              October 4th News And Results

The 08/09 season is finally upon us. Most Senator fans went into the season wondering, where is the defense? Most fans and experts knew that the Senators were short on defensemen, but, new GM John Detter did what he could to fill that void, he went out and made a few moves to fix that situation.

              NEWS

              Senators sign D. Dan Jevceski
              Brian Lee assigned to Binghamton

              INJURIES

Dean McAmmond injured in the last game of the week. Will be out of competitive action for about 7 days.

-Losing McAmmond is a big blow for this Sens team, he was not only a veteran leader, but a good role player. The good thing is that they are trying to upgrade there defense anyway they can. Jevceski is 28 years old and could be a good role player this year on defense.

The Senators opened up the 08/09 season with a victory against the rival Toronto Maple Leafs. Very Surprised with the first goal of the year being from Jarko Ruutu, but hey, they will take whatever they can get. Ruutu also got a goal to get 2 points, Dean McAmmond also joined the 2 point club with a goal and an assist.

Jason Spezza also scored a goal, assisted from Dany Heatly, fans are surely used to that being the other way around. Goaltending was also solid, and hopefully the Sens can play like this all season long

The Senators played there second game of the season against the team they beat in the first, the Toronto Maple Leafs, this time, in Kanata.

The Leafs were up 3-1 going into the 3rd period until Sean Donovan scored 2 great 3 period goals to send the game into OT! With the score tied 3-3 at the end of the 5 minute period, the game went into a shootout which the Leafs eventually won.

Dissapointing loss, but the game had good performances from Heatly, Spezza, and Alfredson who all had a part on the first goal of the game.

                  Jason Blake To The Senators??

The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed winger Jason Blake on the trading block this early in the season and the Ottawa senators are very interested in picking up the 35 year old.

Apparently he and teammate Brian Burke have not got along in the clubhouse much at all this year and Blake has requested a trade. And after seeing the winger in action twice this season, GM John Detter has openly stated he will do what he can to aquire the Winger. This is what he had to say..

"Blake is very dynamic, he can score and pass the puck with precision, we don't have much scoring on this team outside of the big three, and I feel Blake will help us get those much needed extra goals to win some games.."

Sens lost there second game in a row last night to division rival Buffalo Sabres. Once again, it seems like only the big three showed up for the Senators with no one else putting in much more effort.

Shots on goal was also a big concern as the Sens only mustered 25 shots, and in the new NHL, that just won't cut it. A goaltending change could be in the future if "Baby food" continues to struggle the way he is.

One Goal. One Goal in the entire game. Daniel Alfredsson but the only puck in the net for the Senators in an entire 3 period game. Of course, assisted by Dany Heatly and Jason Spezza.

While on the other end, the Flames lit up Martin Gerber for 5 GOALS!. A change is needed in Sens camp, and a change may be coming sooner than expected

Sweet job so far. I never played anything other then the freeware version of EHM, is 2007 much better? I still love the freeware one.

Anyway, as I said, it looks good so far. Can't wait to see what you do to fix this team. They fell pretty far in the last couple of years.

Ottawa gets back on the winning track with a 4-3 shootout victory against the Montreal Canadiens!. Jason Spezza had two goals in the victory and it seems there offense is finally getting the hang of things.

Lets see if they can make a habit of this and get on a roll!!
