There was an incredibly long awkward silence, as I studied my dad. He didn’t have it in him to kill someone. Right? Or has a freak like this been living in the same house as my mom for 23 years. He went on telling about the logistics of man slaughter (accidental killing) but I wasn’t interested at all. He said the whole thing was an accident, but he also said that he wasn’t sure what he was shooting for. Also, this is the first time he has ever admitted to be drunk, so that was strange as well. Before I left, he asked me in not so many words if I would provide bail. He had a way of creeping around the issue that made me seem like a bad guy if I said no. But I did. He would go back to living with my mom if he got out, and as far as I know when you kill once, you kill again.

Game 7 (vs. Springfield Falcons) October 21st
Now this is the team I used to playing for. I didn’t have a single point in this game, but it really didn’t matter. Everybody really stepped it up, and it really showed off because we crushed the decent Falcons 4-1. This is a feeling I may never forget though; it’s like when you get to the pro’s winning takes on a whole new level. When you’re on the ice for your line’s stint, you go all out one hundred percent. You don’t take a play off or make a lazy play. I see teammates doing this sometimes, but luckily I don’t have to get on them because Coach Murray does it a lot better than I could. You don’t want to see the dude when he’s angry.

My mom called today thinking I was still in town. I guess she doesn’t follow the team as closely as she says. I told her that I was at a game and couldn’t talk. The game had been over for twenty minutes now, but I really did not know what to say to her. “Hey ma, the guy you married is a murderer.” I think I’ll drive down on Sunday (the 26th) and tell her everything. She will find out eventually anyway, but I guess she wasn’t home and didn’t notice the police investigators at her house. We have three more games this week for a total of five, and hopefully we win out the rest of the way. We’re tied for first in the conference right now, and that’s a trend I’d like to continue.

Game 8 (vs. Grand Rapids Griffins) October 22nd
Last entry I said that you didn’t want to see Murray angry. Well I don’t like to either, but he usually isn’t the happiest man on the planet after losing 4-1. I assisted my teammate Tony Salmelainen, but I don’t care about a stupid assist when we just got crushed. We had originally had tomorrow off because we just had three games in a row, and then have a double header after the one day break, but coach called a practice. We looked like we needed one though, so it makes sense. However, something tells me we can’t win the next two games if we play as tired as we looked today, and another practice like we had.

Wacey asked me today why I thought he wasn’t on the second line. I could tell it was killing him that I got promoted before him, with me being the rookie and all. I told him that he just doesn’t have enough points, and a lot of times points come from good breaks. Like three of my assists this year have been when I missed a shot and someone scored the rebound. I can see why he’s upset though. We both play our hearts out, but I have a lot more to show for it. It would be really nice to play with him if (when) we make it to the NHL. That is the main goal here and now, so I can’t be helping him get up there when it could take the spot from me. But when we are there, its going to be sweet.

Game 9 vs. Rockford Ice Hogs, October 23rd
This game was one I may never forget. I thought I really needed to step up, because if we were losing with me in the second line, Coach Murray could easily move me back to the third line where I started. We were down one nothing with 11 minutes left in the third period and I had the puck. I passed out to Salmelainen, who dished it back to me, positioned in front of the net, but a good distance back. Faking a shot, I pulled my stick back and a defender dove. One on one now. To catch the defense by surprise I took one skate to the right, and fired a hard slap shot. It hit one post, bounced off the other, and then scorched the back of the net. Tie game. No one else scored in regulation, so onto O.T. We got the puck with 4:11 left, and one of our defense men passed the puck up to me. I took it up on my stick, and then hit a streaking Salmelainen for a hard high wrist shot. Game over, with me and Tony being first and second star respectfully.

I think Tony has a problem with me, or at least me being on the second line. I know that I replaced his best friend, which sucks the same way I miss having Wacey in my line, but it’s not my fault. Tony and I used to get along fine, and I had even been to his place a couple times. He has a nice set-up at his house, nice furniture, big TV, all that good stuff. The times I went most the guys were there, but now since I have been on the line he’s had to of his mini parties with out inviting me. Honestly it pisses me off to see him purposely excluding me. You better believe if he is up against a board in practice, he is going to get hit. Hard.

                          Game 10 (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins) October 24th
I am on fire lately! I had another assist today to Tony Salmelainen but, that was it, because I barely got any ice time out there. Wacey scored today, so I know he felt really good about that and was really happy. We won again, this time 3-1. I really think we have a legit shot to make the playoffs and contend for the Calder Cup, as long as I am still playing as good as I have been.

On the topic of not playing as much though, Coach Murray does not like it when his own players fight. Tony kept shooting me looks when we were all in the locker room. When I approached him to ask him what he was looking at, he shoved me. I shoved him back, harder, and we started going at it. I gave him a good blow to his left eye; he hit me real good in the ribs. Coach walked in, of course, and was furious at the two of us. He kept us after when the team went to go out on the ice for warm-ups, and just screamed at us. He said we were expendable parts of the organization, and if it happened again, we might as well start packing. It made me angry to be called expendable, since I was the leading point scorer on the team. On the ice though, me and Tony work so well together and he scores well. Coach Murray decided though that to avoid more trouble, I’d be moved up to the first line. Some punishment.
