A Look at the Duke Football Team Through NCAA Football 2003 on Xbox.

So far my Dukies have started off with wins over Marshall 45-7, East Carolina 28-21, and Louisville 48-41 after being down by 28 in the 4th. Next up for the now 12th ranked Blue Devils a trip to Doak Campbell for a meeting with the 5th ranked FSU Seminoles. The recap from that game will be made later on this after noon. Duke strolls into Doak Campbell unbeaten at 3-0 with 2 wins over ranked teams (Marshall, and Louisville) with a win over ECU in between. They are confident. B4 the game Head Coach Joe Steele had to say this "I will tell you like I did my players. Get me into the 4th quarter and I will win this game for you." Well after a couple turnovers to start the game Duke goes on the board first by a run from Chris Douglas. Then FSU storms back with 31 straight pts till Duke scores right b4 halftime. Then in the 3rd Duke holds FSU to 3 pts while adding another 7. Then in the 4th Douglas takes over. He scores a couple times and FSU does right back. With 50 secs to go in the game FSU drives all the way down the field to tie the game at 55. Then right on cue Duke drives right back with 20 secs left. Jeff Phillips throws a huge 70 yd bomb to Landrum with 7 secs left to pull off the upset 62-55. Douglas had 6 tds and after the game told reporters "I am now in the hunt for the Heisman. Any takers?" Joe Steele "I am so happy for this team. They never quit esp being down 31-7 most teams would have folded not this one. Big win and lets move on to the next one." So Duke moves to 4-0 (1-0 ACC) and now waits to see where they will be ranked.

Duke escapes at Navy in a rain soaked game 27-20 with our qb Phillps getting injured. Windy as well so hard to kick fgs. Then Duke comes back with a last second win at home against UVA 28-21. Then Duke travled to Wake Forest and the Defense and Offense finally came together for the 1st time since the Marshall game. As Duke won going away 58-10. Douglas had 5 tds in that one bringing his season total to 18 rushing and one recieving. He is also the front runner for the Heisman and RB of the Yr as well as Offensive Player of the Year. Joe Steele said after his performance "He will be playing on Sundays mark my words." Duke's next game is at 21 ranked NC State. Duke is now ranked 4th in the nation at 7-0 (3-0 ACC).

Duke rolled on into Carter-Finley Stadium for a battle with the 21 ranked NC State Wolfpack. Duke took a quick 14-7 lead. Then in a quick 30 second span it turned into a debacle quicker than a Dan Quail Spelling Bee. NC State ran off 24 pts in 30 secs. First scoring off a bomb from Rivers. Then recovering a fumble on the kick off for a td. Finally after a Duke interception for a td. Then another Duke fumble on a kickoff lead to a fg by Kiker! Duke down 31-14. Joe Steele "I thought then and there it was over. Our ACC Title and National Title dreams down the tubes." All of a sudden Duke woke up and put the pedal to the metal! Chris Douglas runs all over the Pack the rest of the game racking up 300 yds rushing and Duke blows out NC State in the 2nd half! Final score Duke 70- NC State 41!!!!!!!!!!! Joe Steele "I'm speechless right now. I just witnessed something I and I bet everyone else in this stadium has never seen b4. This team is a team to be reckon with and Maryland, Ga Tech, and UNC as the only teams with a winning record left along with Clemson who has underachieved all yr. We get Maryland, Clemson, and UNC at home and Tech on the road. I like our chances at winning the ACC crown now. Too early to think about the Fiesta Bowl. I just want to secure a Orange Bowl birth!" Chris Douglas "I have no clue but today I just wanted to run over anyone in my path. I want that Heisman Trophy." Up next 4-3 Maryland comes to town to play the 4th ranked Blue Devils 8-0 (4-0 ACC). Joe Steele has to be a little bit worried that Chris Douglas might jump to the NFL after this great season esp if he ends up with the Heisman. That is the least of his worries right now though.

Duke rolls over Maryland at Wallace Wade 63-48. Duke went up 14-3 early and looked like it would be easy. Then Maryland jumped back into the game and took a 16-14 lead. Duke then woke up and won going away. Wiseplanwy threw 5 bombs for td's a season high and Steve Philips cheered hard on the bench for him. Douglas ran for 3 td's again continuing his torried campaign for the Heisman. Ralph Friedgen "We just got our butts kicked period. I never thought we would lose to Duke and they would be now #3 since #1 Oregon lost earlier today. Duke is great in bball but now football what the hell?" Joe Steele "I knew we would roll over a team that loves to use the flexbone. Our D stood up and smacked them in the mouth and they didn't like it. It's poetic justice after all the smack EJ Henderson talked during the week esp after Reggie Love caught a td pass after EJ thought he knocked down. That was my fav play of the game." Duke moves to 9-0 (5-0 ACC). Up next for the Devils Clemson at Wallace Wade.
