STARTERS Ryan Franklin (0-0) @ Ted Lilly (0-0)

In the last game of the first series of the season, the Mariners came into looking to atleast split the series to begin the year 2003. The game started out 3-0 in favor of the A's, when Chris Singleton hit a leadoff homerun to begin the game, and 2 more runs were batted in. Offensively, the Athletics were still powerful, but weren't scoring as many runs at they could've. The Mariners however, didn't pitch well, and in the 5th inning, the game turned into a HR derby. Bishop, Chavez and Tejada all hit homeruns, the Edgar Martinez and Ichiro hit homeruns ALL IN THE SAME INNING.

The Athletics got the better of the offensive game, and win 7-4, winning the series 3-1.

As the Mariners have practically all year, they jumped out to an early lead. Although the ladder end or their pitching staff hasn't performed up to par, they're whole lineup has hit from decent to above average. They're pitching let them down this game, as the Rangers stormed back with their big bats to take a late 6-3 lead in the 8th inning. In the 9th, Mark McLemore hit a 2-run homerun. With the bases loaded, 2 outs, John Olerud struck out at the plate, and the Mariners lose a close one in Texas, falling to 1-4

This game was a blowout to begin with. Everyone could tell early that Chan Ho Park wasn't gonna throw well today. On the flip side, Freddy Garcia threw an incredible game. Offensively, the Mariners put in work. For Texas, Alex Rodriguez didn't play due to personal reasons, leaving Carl Everett the only one doing anything for the Rangers. The Mariners win this one big time, 8-1.

In the 9th inning, the Mariners rallied from 3 down to come back and take a 6-4 lead. Kaz Sasaki closed out the game, to get his 2 save of the year, and the Mariners win 6-5.

This was a pitchers duel, and of course, like most pitchers duels, it comes down to which team hits a little better. Both teams hit fairly well, but Ramon Ortiz had a better day on the mound than Piniero. Ortiz threw a 2-hitter in 6 and 2/3 innings. Piniero had a complete game with a whopping 13K's. The Mariners played better at the plate in the late innings of the game, however. Edgar Martinez hit a clutch double late in the game, to give the Mariners the 2-1 victory.

In the second game of the Mariners home-opening series, the Mariners are a pretty hot team, on a little 3-game win streak. Chris Snelling gets another start in RF, and has been the 'minor league story' so far, as he's been playing well so far this season. He got his chance to chine when Mike Cameron went down with a torn hammy.

To start this game, the Mariners were lucky to only give up 2 runs in the first 5 innings, as the Angels were aggressive offensively and hit the ball well. Chris Snelling broke up the Lackey no-hitter in the 4th inning, and in the same inning, the Mariners answered with 2 runs of their own.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the Angels scored 2 more runs on 2 outs, but the Mariners put the inning away giving up 2 vital runs late in the game. The Mariners couldn't repsond, and lose the game 4-2.
