Reds outslug the Marlins to win 6-4

The Reds went on a patented homer barrage, hitting three homeruns to Florida's two homeruns. Shawn Green led the attack in the bottom of the third inning with his 20th homerun of the season. Dunn followed with his 10th dinger. "If the balls weren't flying tonight, then I wouldn't have won this game", said Reds starting pitcher Paul Wilson (1-1 5.64). Scott Sullivan worked three shutout innings to record his first save of the season, while Marlins starting pitcher Mark Redman fell to 2-3 and saw his ERA climb to 5.28. The Reds won for their second game in a row after losing the first two of a series against the Braves to improve to 26-22 and move within one game of the NL Central leading Pittsburgh Pirates. More importantly the Braves lost, letting the Reds climb to within 1 1/2 games of the Braves who lead the wildcard race with a 27-20 record. Cincinnati has had to deal with a rash of injuries to their infield. Guerroro (2B) is out for 91 days with a torn hamstring, Boone (3B) is out 77 days with a torn ACL, Lopez (SS) is out for 53 days with a torn biceps muscle and Casey is due to come off the DL in a day after straining his lower back. This has really forced the Reds hand, and luckily there haven't been too many errors with such a young core. "I really like platooning at first base", said catcher Jason Larue. "Whatever it takes to help this ballclub."

Marlins go yard in Great American Ballpark

Adam Dunn hit his 11th homerun of the season, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Marlins went on a bombing mission to beat the Reds 10-7. Derek Lee hit his 4th and 5th homeruns and knocked in 4 runs, Juan Encarnacion hit his 7th homerun and knocked in 5 runs, and Andy Fox hit his 3rd homerun and knocked in 3 runs. Jimmy Haynes (2-5 4.83) couldn't finish the fourth inning after giving up 7 runs, and was replaced by Jose Rijo who got hammered badly in giving up 3 runs to amount to a pitiful night of pitching by the Reds. "I don't know why I even sent Remlinger out there to try and save the game, this really never was close", said Manager Bob Boone. Remlinger pitched one inning and give up 3 runs on 4 hits.

            Pitcher of the game: A.J. Burnett 6 IP 10 Hits 5 ER 8 SO's
Player of the game: Juan Encarnacion 3 for 5, 1 HR, 5 RBI's

Thanks man! Griffey just struck out too much for me, and the only really good outfielder i could for him was Green.

Maddux beats the Reds again 9-5, moves to 8-0

Greg Maddux (8-0 2.57) has the Reds number this year. He ran into trouble early on and was replaced after 5 2/3 innings, but it was enough for him to remain perfect on the season, his winning streak at 8 games. Reds starting pitcher Chris Reitsma (1-5 5.44)has good stuff, but has struggled all season, getting hammered quite frequently. He tends to hang a lot of pitches over the plate. In the first inning the Braves struck for four runs, with Chipper Jones smashing his 14th homerun of the season to leftcenter. "We really knocked the ball around the park today. Had it not been for my big hit in the first inning, we might have lost. Normally we don't have four errors in a ballgame", said a smiling Chipper Jones. Reds Manager Bob Boone declined comment after the game, but we did get a hold of struggling pitcher Reitsma. "What can I say? All I can do is go out in my next start and concentrate on keeping the ball down. Pretty soon I'm going to prove I belong in the rotation. We needed this win today".
