Re: Got WSB 2K3 to work again, so here is my Devil Rays \'chise...

Just wondering if you guys are enjoying this Franchise at all? I really enjoy doing them and I just want to make sure you guys like the format. If not, do you guys have any tips to make it more interesting, etc.? Also, is their any interest in a Devil Rays 'chise. I know they are my fav team, but, most people might be disinterested. Just looking for some constructive criticism is all.

            "Radke headed to Rays?"

Tampa native, and Jesuit High School graduate, Brad Radke may be heading home, and not just for the off-season. Reports out of Tampa say that Radke could be involved in a trade that would send him back to Tampa to play for the Rays. Two years ago Radke expressed interest in playing for the Rays, unfortunately, the ownership group headed up by Vince Naimoli, would not put forth the money to obtain Radke. Now, with Lou Piniella ordering ownership to spend more money on pitching, GM Chuck LaMar is working 'round the clock to work out a deal for Radke. Twins execs would not return repeated phone calls by the Tampa Tribune on Thursday. When Radke was asked about the oppurtunity to play for the Rays he said, "I would relish the oppurtunity to play in my hometown. However, this is the first I have heard of this, so we'll see how things play out over the next few weeks." ESPN's Peter Gammons says that Twins' execs would like Rays DH Aubrey Huff to help solidify the middle of their order. If that is true, don't look for the Rays to pull that deal any time soon. Huff is simply the MVP of this team and will not be traded under any circumstances according to GM Chuck LaMar.

Catch the Rays on Fox Sports Net Florida as they take on the Yankees in the Bronx! Join Dewayne Staats and Joe Magrane for all the action! Plus, don't miss "Rays on Deck," brought to you by "Brandon Ford. Just south of SR-60 in Brandon."

                  "Rays deal Shumpert to Yankees."

Well, the Rays did make a deal, but, it didn't involve the Twins. Instead the Rays found a cheaper and younger pitcher. They found a pitcher who hasn't lived up to his billing since arriving in the Bronx. The Rays took a chance on former Detroit starter Jeff Weaver. Relegated to the bullpen in New York with few starts in between, Weaver just hasn't been himself since leaving Detroit. "He was a lot less aggressive after leaving Detroit, and we thought a change of scenery would help him snap out of his rut," said GM Chuck LaMar. "I'm happy at the oppurtunity afforded to me by the Rays' organization. They have already told me I'm going straight into the rotation and that really excites me." Weaver, was actually informed of the trade just hours before his new team took the field against his old team for the first game of a 3 game set. When asked if Weaver would pitch against the "Bronx Bombers" in his new digs, Rays Manager Lou Piniella said "He'll pitch the 3rd game of this series. He's already been informed of that. He's pretty excited about it actually, he cleared out his locker and just brought his stuff over from the Yankee dugout and was quite surprised to see his new jersey hanging in his locker."

Simmed the first 2 games of the series and will play the 3rd.

                  Game 1:

                  TB 2 8 1 WP: D. Brazelton (4-6) SV: S. Parris (1)
                  NYY 1 6 0 LP: D. Wells (5-5)

                  Game 2:

                  TB 5 13 1 LP: N. Bierbrodt (4-4)
                  NYY 13 13 1 WP: R. Clemens (7-3)

                  Up Next: (29-41) Rays @ (54-17) Yankees

Probables: TB: J. Weaver; NYY: A. Pettitte

BTW: Steve Parris was moved from the starting rotation to the bullpen to make room for Weaver in the rotation.

"Weaver finds lost intensity as Rays take 2 of 3 from Yanks."

Just 3 days away from the "Boss," and Jeff Weaver already has a goatee growing. In Detroit he was the young stud who was going to help out the Yankees with his aggressive nature on the mound, he was a "sure thing," said GM Brian Cashman. Well on Thursday he certainly was a sure thing. Weaver trotted out to the mound confidently facing his old teammates and blocked out all hecklers' remarks. "I just went out there and was able to play my game. I still have a long way to get back to my old form, but I certainly like the loose feel in the clubhouse. I don't feel so confined by rules of no facial hair, etc. I'm part of the youngest club in baseball and I was really psyched about today's start." Weaver went 7 innings and struck out 4 allowing 3 earned runs. Weaver didn't come out for the 8th inning and John Rocker was sent in to protect a 5-3 lead. Rocker quickly struck out the first 2 batters and then let up back-to-back homeruns by former Ray Terry Shumpert and Hideki Matsui. Rocker then struck out Todd Zeile to end the inning. The game was taken into the 11th inning when the Rays' bats awoke Aubrey Huff, Jason Tyner, Travis Lee and Ben Grieve had a slew of hits that brought around 3 runs to give the Rays a 8-5 lead with Jorge Sosa coming in to close out the game. Sosa struck out the side and the Rays won their first ever series in Yankee stadium. "I'm not calling anyone out, but, our bullpen needs to pick it up a bit, hell, we're not even working them that hard, there's no need for blown leads night in and night out. I still want to add arms into the bullpen." Said Rays Manager Lou Piniella. The Rays head to Miami to take on Florida in a 3 game set, and then head home for a 6 game stand against the Yankees and Braves.

Up Next: Devil Rays (30-41) @ Marlins (33-41)
