I'll definitely be continuing it, its just the past 2-3 days have been really busy, and I would play a game today, but, I'm going to Areana Bowl XVII to watch MY Tampa Bay Storm win another Arena Bowl Championship. If we win, we'll have won the Super Bowl and the Arean Bowl, Tampa Bay would have to become the NEW "Title Town." LOL.

"Rock, Chop, Devil Ray Bullpen Sets-up Shop."

The hitting was there...in a sense. In the Devil Rays 2-1 Victory over Atlanta, the Rays collected 11 hits, but, left way to many men on base. "If we can just keep this up, and put it all together, we're gonna make some noise," said Manager Lou Piniella after the Rays' fourth straight victory. Dewon Brazelton picked up win number five on the year with a 7 inning and 1 run performance. Before the 8th inning Rays set-up man John Rocker burst out of the bullpen and struck out the side to keep a 2-1 lead. "Last time in that situation I let up back-to-back home runs, so heading out there I was full of energy and just wanted to keep the lead for Dewon [Brazelton]." Rays closer Lance Carter came in and took care of the heart of Atlanta's order in the 9th to perserve the 2-1 lead and give Tampa its fourth straight win. "We've just played really well these past few days, and it shows what we can do. We still need to work on a few things, and we can't get ahead of ourselves either. We have one hell of a homestand against some pretty good teams coming up, and we just need to play one game at a time. As cliche as that sounds, its true, we can't look towards our series against Chicago or Oakland, if we do that, the winning stops," said veteran leader Steve Parris.

            WP: D. Brazelton (5-6)
            LP: R. Ortiz (6-5)
            SV: L. Carter (7)

            Game 2:

            WP: P. Byrd (9-4)
            LP: N. Bierbrodt (4-6)

            Game 3:
            ATL 2 6 0
            TB 1 4 0

            WP: M. Hampton (6-7)
            LP: J. Weaver (5-3)

                  "Lou to Naimoli: 'Increase Payroll!'"

It's no secret Rays Manager Lou Piniella wants to increase the team's weak $14 million payroll. "If they can go out here at the trade deadline and in the off-season and add $15-$20 million we might be able to turn some heads. We need better pitching, we need a right-handed power bat to protect Huff. We need another lefty in the 'pen, its just a lot of things." Rumor is that Naimoli has said, but not promised, that he will spend money in the off-season that he receives from the revenue sharing agreement. The Rays will have a lot of deferred money that runs out this year and several contracts up, with many guys who may not be back. Some players who may not be with the Rays next season are: 1B Travis Lee, SS Rey Ordonez, RF Ben Grieve, OF Damian Rolls, SP Nick Bierbrodt, P Steve Parris and P Travis Harper. Combined with those salaries cut-off and deferred payments closed, quite a bit of money should be available to Rays GM Chuck LaMar to spend. Some names tossed around Tropicana Field have been quite surprising. Big names like Carlos Beltran, Jose Guillen and others have been mentioned. However, those names are only for the most optimistic of fans and most likely won't happen. However, depending on how the next few weeks pan out we'll see what direction this team takes.

"Rays Snatch Defeat From Jaws of Victory."

That's right, the Rays blew another win. Well, the bullpen blew the victory, but, it was a team effort. Starter Joe Kennedy left the game with a 6-2 lead in the 7th inning. Reliever Jorge Sosa came in for an inning and a third allowing two runs. Seth McClung fared no better giving up 5 runs, Steve Parris followed by giving up 3 runs and finally Lance Carter came out and stopped the bleeding. "Holy SH!T, I have no f***in' clue what the f**k happened out there," said Manager Lou Piniella. "This shows us what we need to do in terms of improvement, this was unacceptable tonight. That's not to say leads aren't blown, but the way this played out is unacceptable and doesn't represent a Major League Baseball team," steemed Rays GM Chuck LaMar. Let's just hope this doesn't crush the confidence of this team. A loss like this, and we have seen them before here in Tampa, can send a team in a nasty tailspin. One major need this club needs, its apparent from last night's loss, is a lefty, if not several lefties in the 'pen. The Rays continue their series tonight against the Red Sox and hopefully can pull out a victory.

"Grieve, Huff Star in Rays' Win."

It was a good night for both Ben Grieve and Aubrey Huff. Ben Grieve went 4-5 against his old team including a 2-run homer in the 9th inning. Huff went 3-5 with a 2-run homer that put the Rays up in the 7th inning. "It felt great to put together a comeback victory," said a smiling Huff. The Rays fell behind early 4-0 in the 1st inning. Soon thereafter, Rays starter Victor Zambrano calmed down and regained his cool and kept the A's bats at bay. Oakland starter Mark Mulder pitched well, but, the Rays' bats just seemed to chip away at his lead and finally when Mulder left the flood-gates opened. When the Rays tied it up at 4, Zambrano headed out for the 5th inning and let up a leadoff homerun to A's 1B Erubiel Durazo, "All I thought was here we go again," said Rays pitching coach Chris Bosio, "I thought we did it again, pitch poorly, get it under control and have our offense bring us back only to let it slip away." The Rays will finish up their series in Oakland and head up to Seattle for the much anticipated series between the Mariners and Rays.
