      Bruins On Cover Of SI

After pulling the unlikely upset over the, at the time, #1 ranked Sooners, the UCLA Bruins were featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Cornerback Matt Ware, who scored the game winning touchdown, was the coverboy. With the victory, the Bruins jumped to #17 in the Coaches Poll, and dropped the Sooners to #11.

Coach Hobbes had the following to say on the win..

"It was a great win for our guys, but we're not going to let it go to our heads. As soon as you do that, you make mistakes on the field, and get your butt kicked by a mediocre team. We still have a long way to go this season to achieve our goals, and we're going to stay focused on the longterm. We've got San Diego State coming up, and they aren't a team you can overlook."

                  Game 4: SDSU @ UCLA

                  @

                  First Quarter
San Diego State won the coin toss, but it turned out that would be the only thing they'd win all day. After going three-and-out for the first drive, they allowed a rushing touchdown to the Bruins' tailback Tyler Ebell. Again, SDSU went three-and-out, and again gave up a touchdown to the UCLA offense.

                  Second Quarter
The second quarter was much like the first, except that SDSU didn't go three-and-out as much. This time, they decided to throw interceptions and get the drives over with even quicker! Matt Ware picked off two straight passes in the quarter, returning them both for touchdowns.

                  Third Quarter
The third quarter was basically the same as the first half, as the UCLA defense shut down the SDSU offense, and the Bruins offense dominated. Ebell ran for his second touchdown of the day, and reached the 100 yard mark on the game. Quarterback Drew Olson threw the ball very well, and connected with his tightend for a touchdown.

                  Fourth Quarter
SDSU must've wanted to get the game over with, as they decided not to throw much in the fourth quarter, instead running the clock out on the ground. The Bruins used the same philosophy, and Ebell scored for the third time on the day. He broke the 200 yard plateu on the day, and caught two passes for about 50 yards. When all was said and done, the Bruins disposed of San Diego State, 57-0.

                  Ware - Tackle, 2 INT, 2 TD

                  Bragg - 8 rec., 153 yards
                  Olson - 14-33, 269 yards, TD

                  Underwood(FS) - 13 Tackles, TFL
                  Collins(HB) - 13 att., 23 yards
