AP - Just a week after star running back Ricky Williams shocked the football world by announcing his retirement from the NFL, head coach Dave Wanstedt has followed suit, saying that he cannot handle the pressure of running this team anymore. "Things have been building up over the last few years. We've had the potential to win the Super Bowl, but we failed to make the playoffs the last two years. We still have a quarterback controversy, and now that Ricky is gone I can't find the will to carry on with this team. The tides are turning and I feel it is best for me to step down."
The team announced its new head coach, former University of Connecticut assistant Joseph Thomas. Thomas is thrilled with the new position. "I've always been a fan of the Dolphins and followed them since I was little. The last few years have been tough to watch because we have so much talent."
When asked about Ricky Williams, Thomas already has a concrete answer and a big announcement. "We have already solved that issue. We have aquired Onterrio Smith from the Minnesota Vikings for Jay Fiedler and a 3rd round draft pick." We feel Onterrio is the best back available to us and I'm thrilled to have him. I think he can step in right away earn the starting spot. Travis Minor will still share some of the time."
This news of course means that AJ Feely is the starting quarterback now, and that the entire season practically rests on his shoulders. "I'm thrilled to come down here and finally not have to worry about playing time after being a back up in Philly for four years. I learned a great deal from Andy Reid and Donovan, and I think I'm ready to be a starter in these league."
Feely will have his fair share of weapons to go, with the blossoming super star Chris Chambers on one side of the ball and flanking him will be newly aquired David Boston. Randy McMichael had a solid year at tight end last year and should also continue to improve.
The defense is solid as ever and will have to play the best the can ever game for Miami to have any chance at reaching the post season.
