BBall New Year - Bobcats In January (ESPN)

At 10-16, this Bobcats team has a lot of fight, and always play hard until the final buzzer. They have been a tough out for a lot of teams this year, but that was the goal. At 10-16, they have a better record than projected, and are on their way to building a great foundation for what could be a successful franchise in the NEAR future. Emeka Okafor and Jason Kapono have been the leaders as of late, but players like Melvin Ely, Jason Hart and Gerald Wallace have played their roles.

    Trading Block

Eddie House and Jahidi White have been placed on the trading block already. It's not because they can't play, but because the GM doesn't really seem them as factors for the future, which is where this team is building towards. Also, they are trying to clear up room for another high draft pick. They already have 3 picks: Their own, Sacramento's from the Smith-Songaila-deal, and another pick in the second round.

            Injury Plagued Ely

Already sitting part of the season out before, Ely is injured once again, with a sever ankle sprain that will keep him out for about 2 months. However, Darius Songaila was activated at the same time, and will step in to start for Melvin Ely.

                Superstar On The Block

The 76ers have tried everything while AI was there. With more offense, they were among the league's worst, and with great defense, the LA Lakers could only be in their way in 2001. So it comes down to this. Philly decides that they cannont win with AI on the squad, so they are looking to trade him and his 22.4 points per game and 7.5 assist. Their are currently no suitors, but Orlando is interested in dealing for Glenn Robinson and Willie Green. Philly states that Grant Hill will have to be involved for that deal to go down. More on AI in the future...

                    Still Wheelin' and Dealin'

After trading away their number 1 draft pick to the Raptors, the Magic feel the need to trade more players. From a 3rd-person's perspective, these are some quite unreasonable trades that do not make much sense for the franchise right now. After acquiring Cuttino Mobley from Houston with Steve Francis, they traded him and a First Round 2005 pick to Minnesota for Sam Cassell. On top of that, they traded for another point guard in Rafter Alston, giving up second year player Keith Bogans.

Now, Orlando has a SERIOUS point-guard log jam with Steve Francis, Sam Cassell, Rafer Alston and Jameer Nelson. The buzz is that they will start Cassell and Francis in the same backcourt.

Charlotte goes to South Florida vs the Heat

After nearly 2 months of basketball, both teams look toward the future. Miami is trying to come out of an early funk and run for the East, as they were the projected Eastern Conference Winners. The Bobcats are still building their solid foundation, and may make front office moves is necessary. On the court is where the game is played, though.

Charlotte came out with their usual suspects and Miami came out sluggish. Kapono continues to carry the scoring load for the Charlotte Bobcats, but he got no help in this game. In the second quarter, Miami started to heat up, and they never looked back. Jason Kapono was getting his head busted by Eddie Jones, to say the least.

In the second half, Miami just played so effeciently on offense, and the Bobcats couldn't do anything about it. Miami had 3 players over 20 points, which is why they won, 98-82.

                        Charlotte Bobcats
Jason Kapono 25 points, 6 rebounds
Jason Hart 9 points, 4 rebounds, 11 assist
Emeka Okafor 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assist

                        Miami Heat
Dwyane Wade 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assist, 4 steals
Eddie Jones 26 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assist
                        Shaquille O'Neal 22 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assist

To begin the game, Jason Hart dominated the offensive side of the ball for the Bobcats. He made smart decisions en route to 15 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assist for the game. Kapono shot the ball well once again, but LeBron James was ultimately the star on the court.

As a team, Charlotte shot the ball well throughout the game, and Cleveland couldn't keep up.

Cleveland was down by about 15 minutes going into the 4th quarter. They made a late game comeback behind LeBron James, but Charlotte was able to hold them off, and win the game 86-82.
