    Re: Marquette Golden Eagles (CH2k5)

    NCAA Tournament
    Sweet Sixteen

    United Center - Chicago, Illinois

The defending National Champions, the Connecticut Huskies, took on #1 seed Marquette in a very intriguing Sweet 16 matchup.

In the beginning, it was all Huskies. Experienced played a big role in UConn's huge lead at first, as Rashad Anderson and Charlie Villanueva killed the Golden Eagles. However, all of that changed - and it changed quickly. Marquette soon learned how to break the press of the Huskies, and everytime, Travis Diener was left wide open for three. By the end of the half, Diener had racked up 30 points and led his team to a 15 point lead.

The second half saw the Marquette lead grow even more, and the Golden Eagles once led by 20 points. However, Rashad Anderson would have none of that, and started draining threes left and right, as well as setting up teammated for easy buckets. The Huskies battled back to within three with a minute left in regulation, and resorted to fouling. After the foul shots, the Huskies just couldn't come up big when they needed to, giving Marquette the 88-80 victory.

    Players Of The Game
    MARQ - Travis Diener - 40 points, 8-10 3PT FG, 10 assists, 4 rebounds
    UCONN - Rashad Anderson - 39 points, 6-8 3PT FG, 4 assists

    MARQ
    Novak - 21 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, 3 rebounds
    Mason - 15 points, 5 assists

    UCONN
    D. Brown - 12 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds
    Villanueva - 11 points, 11 rebounds

    Video Highlights

Rashad Anderson turns around and does the same

Good luck with Texas... they beat the Irish, so they must be pretty darn good ... This is a good read, keep it up.

                Thanks for reading man.

I beat Texas earlier this season, so I know I can. Plus, with the way Diener's been playing, scoring won't be much of a problem. Be prepared for a high-scoring affair.

The Texas Longhorns and Marquette Golden Eagles were set to do battle in the round of 8, with the winner going to the Final Four.

Early on, Texas whooped up on the Golden Eagles. Scoring from the perimeter and the paint, it didn't matter who had the ball or who was guarding them, the Longhorns were destined to score. At one point in the first half, Texas was shooting nearly 70% from the field. Then, of course, Travis Diener was like, "hey, I'm a senior" and took over. After he hit a couple of threes and dished out a couple assists, Marquette made it a ballgame again. However, Texas was quick to pull away, and led by seven at the half.

After the intermission, the Golden Eagles played inspired basketball. Led by Diener, Marquette scored again and again, and actually decided to play a little defense in the second half. The Longhorns continued to play good basketball, but it just wasn't at the level of that of the Golden Eagles. After a 13-2 run, capped off by a Dameon Mason three, Marquette never looked back, winning 84-79.
