Wildcats Take Down Big East Foe

Bethune-Cookman took on the West Virginia Mountaineers on the road and came back to win. They were down by 7 with 5 mintues left and outscored the Mountaineers by 15 to finish the game. There were three high scorers in the game each with 25 points. Luckily the Wildcats had two of them. Taurean Ellis had the best game of his young career with some spectacular dunks and block. He finished 10-16 from the field. Braun also added 25 inlcuding 3 3 pointers. Darris Nichols lit it up with 25 for the Mountaineers but came out too early and scored 18 in the first half.

West Virginia seemed like too much during the first half. They led by 12 entering the break but were totally manhandled by the men in maroon in the second half. The Wildcats won 71-63.

    Stats:
    BCC
    Chris Braun 25 Pts 3-9 from 3
Taurean Ellis 25 Pts 6 Rebounds 2 Blocks
    West Virginia
    Darris Nichols 25 pts 6 assists (11-20 fgs, 3-10 3pt)

    Next Game-

        Bethune-Cookman Wildcats @ Hampton Pirates

Bethune-Cookman Gets First Win vs. Hampton Under Coach

It wasn’t pretty. In the first half, the Wildcats shot just 25% from the floor. Everybody was missing. However, this let them get more offensive rebounds and the Pirates of Hampton were just out hustled in every category. The Wildcats trailed at the half however, because they let at 12-4 run take them down 4 at the break.

This however, didn’t slow down the cats. They improved their shooting in the second half to around 50% and took the lead and never looked back. 4 Players were in double figures for the wildcats, while Hampton on had 3. Braun led the way with Ellis having another terrific game. O’Sullivan recorded his first double double of the year. Hampton’s 10 turnovers led to their downfall, while the Wildcats had none. Bethune Cookman beat Hampton for the first time in 2 years under the coach. The Wildcats cruised to a 64-51 victory. Extended their winning streak to 2.

        Stats:
        BCC
Chris Braun 23 Pts 4 Rebs
Taurean Ellis 15 Pts 2 Rebs 2 Blocks
        Lamarcus O’Sullivan 12 Pts 12 Rebs

Rashard West 14 pts 3 assists
Adrian Woodard 11 Pts 4 Rebs

            RECRUITING UPDATE

The BCC coach was on the recuiting trail to being the season. He has 2 scholarship offers and has targeted mainly PF and SG because of the need for those positions. This years team only has 2 pure SG and 2 pure PF and Dwayne Taylor graduates after this year.

During the early signing period, the Wildcats were able to secure the committment of a SG. The 6'3" 196lb shooting guard from Jacksonville, Florida gave his pledge earlier today. He is a great shooter, but not so quick, he will definitly have to spot up and wait for the kick out with his D quickness rating. He wanted to be close to home, be wanted, and play at a big school. This definitly shows that BCC has moved up in the eyes of many recruits. See picture below 1st Image

Other targets of the Wildcats have been Diego Pleick (2nd Image)and Corry Herman.(3rd image)
Herman, a 6'7" PF from Tennessee lists BCC third on his list with them being the only scholarship offer to date.

The Wildcats also have a PF name Diego Pleick, with high interest. He is a 6'8" PF from North Carolina. He also can shoot the ball with his B rating and can rebound very well (B+). He lists BCC fourth on his list to this point.

Other recruits that the Wildcats are keeping close are 6'3" SG Terrell McFadden (4th Image)and 6'3" SG Seamus Sommerville.(5th Image)

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats @ Norfolk St.

                    Extend Conference Record to 2-0

The Wildcats certainly were feeling the momentum of winning two games in a row. They got off to a great start and never looked back. The Wildcats took the early lead on the back of Chris Braun who led the team in scoring for the game.

While the cats led at the break by only 6, they pulled away in the second half. Lamarcus O'Sullivan was a work horse down low adding another double double. The Spartans tried to form a comeback but it was to no avail as the Wildcats won easily 60-48.

                    Stats:
                    BCC
                    Chris Braun 21Pts 4 Rebs

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats @ #10 Gonzaga

Streak Over, Loss to Ranked Gonzaga

While the Wildcats were riding high after their winning streak had improved to 3 games, they took a road trip to Gonzaga. The Zags were #10 in the country and posted a record of 8-0. However, the Wildcats, who were playing their 6th straight road game of the season to, came out of the blocks great. They posted a lead of 10 points and seemed to be dominating in every facet of the game. They led by 8 at the break.

But the Zags proved that they were too much at home in the second half. They just had too much talent and depth for Bethune Cookman. The Bulldogs opened up a lead to 10 points and the Wildcats just couldn't get any closer than 4 for the rest of the game. They lost 65-57

                    Stats:
                    BCC
Chris Braun 12 Pts 3 Rebs

                    Gonzaga
Derek Raivio 21 Pts 12 Assists
                    Adam Morrison 13 Pts (3-5 3pointers)

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats vs. George Washington

Home Not So Sweet For Wildcats

Bethune Cookman came home for the first time in the 2006-2007 season and were greeted with a rude awakening. They got down early and often to the Colonials and could never mount a comeback. They trailed by 8 at the break and seemed out matched by the team from the Atlantic 10.

Ricky Lucas came out firing from the floor and poured in 20 points on 9-14 shooting and it was game over for the Wildcats who 68-60.

                    Stats:
                    BCC

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats @ Air Force

                    Losing Streak to 3 Games

When you think of the Air Force Academy you might think airplanes, you might think football, but it was definitly the first one tonight. The Falcons came out on fire from the floor and were flying up and down the court on what looked like a worn out and beated down Bethune Cookman ball club. The Wildcats just seemed to be ice cold and they were only managing 17 points in the first half on 18% shooting from the floor. The Falcons led by 12 at the break.

The 2nd Half was more of the same as the Falcons increased their lead and the highflying dunking began. The Falcons couldn't be stopped in their home building flew to a 55-36 win over BCC. The Wildcats are now 3-4 on the road for the year.

                    Stats:
                    BCC
Chris Braun 20 Pts 4 Rebs

                    Desert Wolf Invitational
Wildcats In The Desert Wolf Invitational

The Wilcats came into the game on a 3 game losing streak and they certainly didn't act like it. They came out firing on all cylinders led by Sophomore SF Chris Braun. He had 12 Pts in the frist half and led the Wildcats to a 4 point lead at halftime.

However the New Mexico Lobos were not going to go quietly on their home floor. The Pit was rocking as the Lobos came back to tie the game early in the second half. But the Wildcats once again had the answer, but this time it came off the bench. Back-Up PG Konrad Bronson came off the bench to spark the comeback with 12 Pts and a couple of crucial steals and layups. The Wildcats went on to win the game 66-57.

                    Stats:
                    BCC

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats vs. Central Florida

                    Desert Wolf Invitational

Final Oh So Sweet for Wildcats

Not only was this the Wildcats' first appearance in a Non-Conference Tournament Final, but it was also against an in-state rival. In the desert the UCF Golden Knights took on the Wildcats for the Desert Wolf Invitational crown. Led by the play of Lamarcus O'Sullivan, the Wildcats played consistant basketball and were able to win back-to-back games for the Desert Wolf championship.

Former Marquette PG Carlton Christian was trying to lead the comeback for UCF but it was to know avail. There were 3 players for the Wildcats in double figures, all above 15 points or more. The wildcats made their freethows down the stretch and held off the Golden Knights for a 65-55 victory.

                    Stats:

                    Bethune-Cookman Wildcats vs. South Carolina

                    Knocked Off of Their Pedistal

The Gamecocks came into the matchup posting a modest record, however, they were obviously more talented than it appeared. A tournament team from last year came into the game and took it by storm. They opened up with shooting from Renaldo Balkman and Tre Kelley that caught the Wildcats off guard. They led at the break by 10.

After the break, it seemed as though the Wildcats had gotten the message. The comeback was mounted and they came withing 5. This was led by Aaron Devoe off the bench with his 3-6 3 point shooting. However, they could not get within that number as the Gamecocks sent the Wildcats down in defeat 72-67.

                    Stats:
                    BCC
Chris Braun 5 Pts 2-11 FGs
Konrad Bronson 18 Pts 3 Asts

                      Bethune-Cookman Wildcats @ Norfolk St.

                      Extend Conference Record to 2-0

The Wildcats certainly were feeling the momentum of winning two games in a row. They got off to a great start and never looked back. The Wildcats took the early lead on the back of Chris Braun who led the team in scoring for the game.

While the cats led at the break by only 6, they pulled away in the second half. Lamarcus O'Sullivan was a work horse down low adding another double double. The Spartans tried to form a comeback but it was to no avail as the Wildcats won easily 60-48.

                      Stats:

                      Stats:

                        Wildcats Take Conference Lead

From the start it was a shootout between two of the most talented players in the Mid-Eastern Conference. Both C. Braun and J. Mason had excellent games and that is the way that it started out. In the first half it seemed like each time down the floor one would try and out do the other one. The first half ended in a tie, Braun with 17 pts and Mason with 16.

Mason hits a deep three with men in his face.

The second half was decided early by a 12-4 run by the Wildcats. Mason and Braun again scored but the real difference in this half, was the play of O'Sullivan. He was the difference and reason why the Wildcats won 65-57.

Blowout Win Keeps Wildcats Undefeated In Conference Play

This game was over after about 4 minutes. The Wildcats came out on all cylinders and gave the Hawks a whooping like none other. Led by steals by Treg Newton, first year PG for the Wildcats, Bethune-Cookman jumped out to a 20 point lead at half time 30-10. The defense by the Wildcats was impecable and they showed their dominance over another conference opponent.

Ellis says no with a big time block.

The 2nd Half was on cruise control for the Wildcats. They were up by more than 10 for the rest of the game and cruised to an easy victory on the back of Freshman SF Taurean Ellis. They won 53-42.

Winning Streak Ends Against Non-Conference Team

The Wildcats came into the game thinking that they could prove that they at least belonged in converstions about Mid-Major teams in the tournament picture. They had a chance to prove that against the Vikings of Cleveland St. They game was a wild one in the first half it was all Vikings. Led by the hot shooting of PG Mike Redell. He led the team with 18 pts in the first half and gave the Vikings a 10 point lead at the break.

Ellis takes it in for the monster dunks.
The game however was far from over. The Wildcats showed the heart that they have and with 5 minutes left were down 8. They went on a run that would put them up by 2 with 13 seconds left. They knew who was going to get the ball for the Vikings however, he didn't shoot it. Redell passed the ball to his PF for the tie and we were headed to Overtime. In overtime, it was the same story as the first half. The Wildcats kept it close in the beginning but ran out of steam as the period drew to close with the Wildcats losing 79-70.
