    Colorado Tech Toros combined dynasty

This is my combined dynasty for my created school, the Colorado Tech Toros. I run both dynasties in "AD Mode" meaning all I do is recruit and I set the controller in the middle and watch the teams duke it out CPU vs CPU. For the basketball portion of the dynasty, as of now, it's sim only but I might move to CPU vs CPU if I can find the time.

    COLORADO TECH TOROS

From this day on, this thread with be the unofficial home of one of the up-and-coming athletic programs in the NCAA, the Colorado Tech University Toros. CTU began play in the Big 12 in football in 2005 and in basketball in 2004. Let's start out with a brief history of the football program.

    TOROS FOOTBALL

Led by head coach Jim Macklin, one of the few African-American head coaches in the country, The Colorado Tech Toros began play in the NCAA in 2004 as a provisional Division 1 school. They played a schedule of 1-AA, Mountain West, WAC and Big 12 teams and went 10-2 with blemishes to archrivals Colorado State and Colorado. Yet the high-flying offense led by Junior QB Dennis Fry who threw for over 4000 yards in that first season impressed the Big 12 enough to be given an invite. They were put into the Big 12 South replacing fellow big offense program Texas Tech. The announcement was made midway through the season, just in time for the Toros basketball team to play the 2004 season in the Big 12.

Turning our attention back to football, the Toros were humiliated in their first season in the Big 12. They finished the season with a brutal 3-8 record with a 2-6 conference record. The lone bright spot in a terrible season for the program was an upset victory over then #6 Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln. That year was also the swan song for celebrate QB Dennis Fry who graduated with an impressive 7500 yards passing in just 2 NCAA seasons.

In 2006, the keys to the CTU offense were handed to Senior QB Jeff Smith. Unfortunately, with Smith the team performed no better than the prior season. They started with a terrible 1-3 record including losses to Missouri, Texas A&M and in-state rivals Colorado State. Coach Macklin had seen enough, he called upon his Freshman QB Wally McCoy. The dynamic McCoy was exactly what the doctor ordered. His ability to beat other teams with his legs as well as his arms was vital. In his first game as the Toro starting QB, he led the Toros to a decisive victory in Boulder over the Colorado Buffaloes. From there, the Toros rolled on winning 3 of their next 4 games, setting up a matchup in Norman with #14 Oklahoma. Colorado Tech sat with a conference record of 4-3 while Oklahoma sat with a conference record of 5-2 heading into the game, meaning that a Toros win would send them to an improbable date at the Big 12 Championship game. They did not disappoint as a 33-32 win over the Sooners sent the Toros to the Big 12 Championship game against the same Missouri team that had defeated them earlier in the season. With McCoy under center there was no problem as the Toros dominated the Tigers en route to a 48-34 rout sending the Bulls to a BCS bowl in their first ever bowl game. It was a stiff challenge for the Toros as they were sent to the Nokia Sugar Bowl and a date with the SEC Champion #6-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina dominated most of the game, but an improbable last-minute TD sank their hopes (details below) and the Toros had finished an amazing season winning the Big 12 and the Sugar Bowl.

2007 was very similar to 2006. The Toros steamrolled the out-of-conference competition going 3-0 out of conference, however, they struggled within the conference as McCoy struggled to find consistency. A 7-4 overall record with a 4-4 conference record was enough to send the Toros to the EV1.net Houston Bowl and a rematch with the 6-5 South Carolina Gamecocks. This time it was the Toros turn to choke away a sure bowl victory. The Bulls blew a 27-6 fourth quarter lead and fell to the Gamecocks 31-27.

Top 3 Greatest Games in Toros history:
    3) 2005 - CTU @ Nebraska - 14-12 W
The Toros were the punching bag of the Big 12 headed into this game vs #6 Nebraska. The Bulls were down just 10-7 at the shadow of their own goalposts with 5 minutes remaining when Senior QB Dennis Fry took a sack in the endzone giving the Huskers a 5-point lead and the ball. The defense would make a stop and allow the Toros O to step back on the field. On 3rd down at the Nebraska 20 and 40 seconds to go, Fry hit Junior WR Cooper Vuong on a 17-yard gain. Then with 10 seconds remaining, Fry hit Vuong again in the back of the endzone to complete the upset.

    2) 2005 - Colorado State @ CTU - 75-73 L (4OT)
In what was already a classic battle, the Toros and Rams battled to a 45-45 tie at the end of regulation. In OT, the teams traded touchdowns three times, until the 4th series. The Rams converted on their TD and 2-point conversion, forcing the Toros hand. Dennis Fry led the Toros into the end zone but on the 2 point conversion, Junior running D'Ondre Nichols was stuffed at the 1-yard line. In this high-powered football game the teams combined for over 1500 yards of offense. Dennis Fry alone threw for almost 650 yards and 6 TDs in the loss.

    3) 2006 NOKIA Sugar Bowl - CTU vs South Carolina - 35-34 W
The SEC-champion Gamecocks came to play on this night as the Toros sat back and wallowed as the Gamecocks held the ball at the CTU 20 with under 2 minutes to go and a 6-point lead. Out trotted the South Carolina field goal unit. Somehow, Steve Spurrier's troops missed the field goal setting up an exciting finish. The Toros took the ball from behind their own 20 with 1 timeout and less than 2 minutes to play with. Several passes to All-American WR Dio McNeal later, the Toros found themselves with 1st and 10 at the Gamecocks 40 with 45 ticks left on the clock. McCoy tried to buy his time, but the stellar Gamecocks secondary held him off forcing a 4th down with 30 seconds remaining. McCoy stepped back in the pocket with all sorts of time, unfortunately, he had nothing open. But wait! McCoy fired a pass deep into double coverage, he threaded the needle right to little-used 4th WR freshman Ralph Sampson for the Touchdown and the win! The Gamecocks got the ball back but on their 2nd play of the possession, Senior DT Paul Brooks hit the QB Antonio Heffner hard and forced a fumble. Freshman DE Leroy Dodd was Johnny on the spot and scooped up the football. McCoy kneeled twice to clinch the victory and finish the best season in Toros history.

Now, in 2008, the Toros look to begin a new promising season. Wally McCoy was out in full force in the opening game of the year as he threw for 298 yards, 4 TDs with 1 pick while running for 96 yards on 21 carries and a TD. The Toros ended up crushing the Rams 55-31. How will the rest of the season go? Stay tuned to this post and find out.

    TOROS BASKETBALL

The Toros started in the Big 12 in 2004 and have made steady improvements. In 2004 head coach Colin Pegler's squad gutted it out to a 10-18 record. They improved to 12-16 in 2005 before going to 17-11 in 2006. The big breakthrough was in 2007 when the Bulls went 20-8 in the regular season and earned a #9 seed in the NCAA tournament, their first tournament bid in school history. The Toros narrowly won their first round game, defeating #8 St. Joseph's 82-80. In the second round, the Toros pulled off their biggest upset in school history, stunning the #1 team in the nation and the #1 seed in their Washington D.C. regional beating the Huskies of UConn by 10. Onto the Sweet 16 and they shocked #5 Mississippi State setting up a date with #2 Louisville for a chance at the Final Four. Alas, that was where the Toros run would end as they finished their campaign with a 77-72 loss at the MCI Center at the hands of the Cardinals of Louisville. In 2008, the big lineup of Colorado Tech is hoping to win its first ever Big 12 title.

                    THE TORO TIMES

                    Week 4 in Review

Iowa City, IA (AP) - The Colorado Tech Toros came flying out of the gate on Saturday night, on the first play of the game junior QB Wally McCoy found senior wideout Justin Malloy who took it the rest of the way for a Bulls score giving the Toros an early 7-0 lead. After another TD pass by McCoy, this time to sophomore WR Shane McCall the Toros lead 14-0 after one quarter. McCoy was 4-4 with 105 yards and 2 TD after the first period. The final minutes of the first half yielded some exciting action. With a 14-10 lead with just over 2 minutes to go in the half, Wally McCoy hit Shane McCall for McCall's second TD of the contest. The Hawkeyes would respond with sophomore Kyle Mack's 32 yard strike to junior Martin Kent. Not to be outdone, the Toros struck again before the end of the half as McCoy racked up his 4th touchdown of the half throwing a 5-yard lob to true freshman Ethan Terry to give the Toros a 28-17 lead at the break. That was pretty much all for the Toros offense as they struggled in the second half. The Hawkeyes finished the game controlling the ball for almost double the time of possession of the Toros. In the third quarter, senior tailback Sherman Flowers found paydirt for the second time to bring the Hawkeyes within one score. In the 4th quarter, Kyle Mack threw for his second TD of the game this time to freshman TE Willie Smith. With a 3 point lead and 20 seconds on the clock, the Hawkeyes sent true freshman kicker Thornton Allen to try to extend the lead to 6. His 41-yard attempt was wide right, and the Toros got the ball back at the 24 yard line with 15 seconds on the clock and no timeouts. On 2nd down and 10, McCoy threw deep and hit junior WR Ruben Sampson for a 43 yard gain putting the ball at the Iowa 33. However, Sampson could not get out of bounds and despite the first down stoppage of the clock, the Toros were unable to get to the line of scrimmage in time to run another play and went home with a heartbreaking 31-28 loss.

                        THE TORO TIMES

                        Week 5 in Review

Lawrence, KS (AP) - Despite a decisive 48-36 victory over his team's Big 12 host Kansas Jayhawks, CTU Toros head man Jim Macklin was furious with his team's play, clearly disturbed by his team's complacency which saw a 24-0 1st quarter lead evaporate into a 24-23 lead early in the second half.

The Toros came flying out of the gates as true freshman kicker Matt Sapp connected on a career long 46 yard field goal to open the scoring. Wally McCoy started his big day with a 33 yard strike to freshman wideout Ethan Terry to make it a 10-0 game. Shane McCall would score on an end-around to make it 17-0 before McCoy closed out of the quarter with a 23 yard pass to Ruben Sampson for another score giving the Bulls a comfortable 24-0 lead over the home team heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter was the beginning of the Rex Greene show as the Toros pathetic run defense had no answer for the sophomore back. Rex Greene rumbled for touchdown scores of 5, 54 and 19 yards respectively allowing his Jayhawks to climb back into the game trailing 24-20 at halftime.

A Lamont Marshall field goal would cut the lead to just one, but the Toros would then pull away. Wally McCoy connected with Ruben Sampson again for a 23 yard touchdown giving the Toros an 8 point cushion. Matt Sapp would hit his second field goal of the day giving the Toros a 34-23 lead heading into the final frame. The Toros started the final frame with a bang as the fullback Chauncey Polk got into the action with a 5 yard TD run on the first play of the 4th. The teams would continue trading touchdowns for the rest of the game giving the Toros a solid 48-36 road win.

Undoubtedly, the star of the game was the Toros' junior pivot Wally McCoy. Not only did he throw for 308 yards and 4 scores but he also ran for 130 yards on 14 carries. McCoy and the Toros look to complete their tough road swing with a win over the #4 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman next week. The game will be nationally televised on ABC, kickoff is at 8:00 PM ET.

                            I'm liking this, a lot.

                            Very in depth write-ups.

                            Keep it up.
