    SEASON PREVIEW

Orlando enters a new season, with new faces, and a new attitude. After their horrible outing in their previous season, the Orlando Magic traded their star player, Tracy McGrady, in exchange for Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, and Kelvin Cato.

However, Francis' buddy and former roomate, Cuttino Mobley, was traded to the Sacramento Kings for defensive minded guard and whipped husband, Doug Christie.

With the trade, Steve Francis will make the jump from point guard to shooting guard, much like Allen Iverson did. This puts rookie guard, Jameer Nelson out of St. Joseph's.

The upcoming season also mounts the comeback of forward, Grant Hill. Hill, a former Duke Blue Devil and Detroit Piston, has played in just 47 games in his three year stint with the Orlando Magic.

With all this and more, this season will be a "make or break" one for the Magic. With new head coach, Johnny Davis, Orlando will have to step it up to play with the elite. If they fail in their goals, the team might just "blow up" and prepare for a rebuilding era.

        ROSTER

        STARTING FIVE

        PG- Jameer Nelson; 6'0", Rookie
This rookie spent his full four years at St. Joseph's and that will pay off in his career in the NBA. With multiple talents to pass to in Francis, Hill, and Howard, he should have an easy time finding the open man.

SG- Steve Francis; 6'3", 5YRS Pro
Francis is an absolute playmaker. With the ability to create his own shot and dribble down the lane for a tenacious dunk, Franics should have a field day against slower 2-guards.

SF- Grant Hill; 6'8", 9YRS Pro
Making a comeback and entering his 10th NBA season, is Grant Hill. He might have lost a step or two, but he is still a solid player and provides the veteran leadership.

        PF- Dwight Howard; 6'11", Rookie
Dwight Howard, the number 1 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, will be the Magic's go to guy in the paint. With his lengthy arms, he can be a rebounding machine on some nights.

        C- Andrew DeClercq; 6'10, 9YRS Pro
DeClercq is just the big guy in the middle who will rebound all he can. He is not a threat on offense, nor defense, and will have start until the Magic front office can pull something together to bring a better center.

        BENCH

        G- Doug Christie
        G- Deshawn Stevenson
        F- Hedo Turkoglu
        F- Pat Garrity
        F- Stacey Augmon
        C- Kelvin Cato
        C- Tony Battie
        INJURED RESERVE

        F- Brandon Hunter

Orlando Wins Season Opener over Redd Hot Michael

Michael Redd led all scorers with his amazing 45 points, but no man can take over for their whole team and lead them to victory... even that other Michael had help.

Steve Francis, playing his new: 2-guard position, scored 29, assisted 5, and had 4 steals to earn Player of the Game honors. However, all of the Orlando Magic team deserve their fair share, as they all played a key part in the victory.

Player of the Game: G, Steve Francis
                Stat Line: 29PTS, 5AST, 4STL
Rookie, Jameer Nelson, assited, fellow rookie, Dwight Howard rebounded, and new Magic, Doug Christie, scored off the bench.

Nelson ended his first career game with 8 points and dished out a game high, 9 assists. Dwight Howard pulled off a double-double in his first NBA game with 15 points and 15 rebounds. And Doug Christie, though still whipped by his wife, had 15 off the bench.

Orlando looked to have lost the game by midway through the 3rd quarter, but a defensive switch to double team Michael Redd helped to slow down the Bucks. Their lack of offense in the first was turned into smart shots by the second.

Despite his 6 three pointers on his 45 point night, Michael Redd and Co. were not able to pull off the comeback. T.J. Ford scored 14 and dished out 7 assists. Joe Smith had 11 points and 12 boards. Keith Van Horn was held scoreless on 0-7 shooting.

"The team is great," said Coach Johnny Davis, "They are a real threat and want to win."

Moving Francis to the 2-guard, and starting Jameer. Good move. But when you come against the better 2-guards of the league (Kobe, T-mac, Pierce, etc.), I suggest starting Doug Christie. Just a suggestion, Coach.

Yeah, no doubt... That's definitely what I'll be doing.
