        UMBC (1-0) 33
        Villanova (0-0) 68

Nova's season opener against the University of Maryland-Baltimore College was a squeaker. In the first 5 seconds of the game or so, that is. It was never truly close and Villanova pulled out all their starters with over 10:00 remaining in the 2nd half. The Villanova bench picked up solid minutes and extended the lead for Villanova as well. Overall the bench contributed 30 points for Villanova compared to only 7 for UMBC. Villanova shared the ball extremely well, only 5 of their 26 field goals made went unassisted. Allan Ray had a game high 15 points, and shot 5/8 from long distance. The Villanova defense was another key to the win, forcing UMBC to shoot only 27% from the field. Next up Villanova plays John Cheney and Temple in the first of their Philly 'Big 5' rivalry games.

                #18 Villanova (1-0) 43
                Temple (1-2) 39

Things looked bleak for 'Nova early on as Temple got out to a 7 point lead in the opening minutes of the game. Villanova started the game only 1/5 from the field, and to top it all off, Curtis Sumpter got in foul trouble early, he quickly got 2 fouls in the first few minutes and had to sit out the rest of the first half. However, coach Jay Wright called a timeout before it got out of hand and got his players to settle down and maintain their composures, it worked and the game was back and forth from then on all night. In the end Villanova came out on top on the shoulders of Michael Nardi's 9/10 FT shooting down the stretch, and pulled out the 4 point victory. It was a tenacious defensive battle all game, both teams shooting under 36% from the field. All in all it was another great chapter in the rivalry between two of the best programs of the 'Philly 5.'

                Player of The Game:

                Allan Ray: 16 points, 1 assist, 4 steals, 1 block, 2 rebounds

                            Monmouth (3-2)
                            #16 Villanova (2-0)

Great defense, minimal turnovers, and unselfish passing were the same keys to yet another win by Villanova. Monmouth shot only 37% from the field on the night, a product of the great D exhibited by 'Nova throughout the game. Allan Ray led the 'Cats in scoring for the third straight game, this time putting up a season high 25 on Monmouth. Other key contributors to the win were Michael Nardi, who dished out 9 dimes, and Curtis Sumpter, who was a manchild on the glass, grabbing 11 boards. Next up for 'Nova is the 2nd out of their 4 Philly 'Big 5' games, against the LaSalle Explorers.

                            Player of The Game:

Allan Ray: 25 points, 1 assist, 2 steals

                            Villanova Stats
Michael Nardi: 9 points, 9 assists, 4 steals
Curtis Sumpter: 6 points, 1 assist, 11 rebounds
Jason Fraser: 6 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 7 rebounds
Kyle Lowry: 5 points, 1 assist
Randy Foye: 4 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds
