      Entry #10

Well the first day of the NFL draft is in the books. I thought we did a great job of picking players that would hurt our team. We started out with the following picks:

      1st Round: 29th (From IND)
      2nd Round: 39th

      Round 1

      #01: MIA- LT Jake Long
      #02: STL- ROLB Vernon Gholston
      #03: ATL- QB Matt Ryan
      #04: OAK- RE Chris Long
      #05: KC- LT Ryan Clady
#06: ARI (From NYJ)- LE Derrick Harvey
      #07: NE- ROLB Keith Rivers
      #08: BAL- CB Leodis McKelvin
      #09: CIN- DT Glenn Dorsey
#10: IND (From NO)- DT Sedrick Ellis
#11: PHI (From BUF)- LOLB Jerod Mayo
      #12: DEN- LT Duane Brown
      #13: CAR- RT Jeff Otah
      #14: CHI- QB Joe Flacco
      #15: DET- CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie
#16: TB (From NYJ)-CB Mike Jenkins
#17: PHI (From KC)- HB Darren McFadden
      #18: HOU- DT Kentwan Balmer
      #19: BUF- HB Felix Jones
#20: DAL (From NYJ)- HB Rashad Mendenhall
#21: SEA (From WAS)- Dustin Keller
#22: DAL (From NYJ/NE)- CB Antoine Cason
      #23: PIT- RT Gosder Cherilus
      #24: TEN- TE John Carlson
#25: TB (From SEA)- DT Trevor Laws
      #26: JAX- CB Aquib Talib
      #27: SD- LT Chris Williams
      #28: DAL- LG Branden Albert
      #29: SF- SS Kenny Phillips
      #30: GB- HB Chris Johnson
      #31: STL- TE Fred Davis
      #32: MIA- LE Larence Jackson

Summary: I thought I was honestly going to get John Carlson or Dustin Keller if I stayed put, but Carlson went a couple picks above me. I was happy getting Kenny Phillips. I needed help at the safety position, and he should be starting from Day 1. With Clements, Harris, and Phillips, they should be able to anchor down the passing game better than what they fared last year.

      Round 2

      #01: STL- RE Phillip Merling
      #02: ATL- CB Tracy Porter
      #03: KC- CB Brandon Flowers
#04: DAL (From NYJ)- WR Jordy Nelson
      #05: ATL- LT Sam Baker
      #06: BAL- WR Donnie Avery
      #07: SF: WR Jerome Simpson
#08: NO (From BUF)- SS Tyrell Johnson
      #09: DEN- HB Jonathan Stewart
      #10: CAR- RE Quinton Groves
      #11: CHI- HB Matt Forte
      #12: DET- MLB Curtis Lofton
      #13: CIN- RG Chilo Rachal
      #14: MIN- LE Kendall Langford
      #15: ATL- RE Jason Jones
      #16: PHI- WR James Hardy
      #17: ARI- RE Calais Campbell
      #18: WAS- CB Terrence Wheatley
      #19: WAS- WR Eddie Royal
      #20: PIT- CB Charles Godfrey
      #21: TEN- WR Limas Sweed
      #22: DAL- HB Kevin Smith
      #23: GB- QB Brian Brohm
      #24: BUF- CB Terrell Thomas
#25: NYJ (From DAL)- TE Martellus Bennett
#26: SF (From NO)- HB Ray Rice
      #27: GB- TE Brandon Cottam
      #28: DAL- LOLB Jordan Dizon
      #29: NE- WR Malcom Kelly
      #30: NYG- QB Chad Henne
      #31: BUF- CB Patrick Lee

2nd Round was solid. I got Jerome Simpson who will probably start opposite of Isaac Bruce and I made a trade to get Ray Rice. New Orleans wanted to trade down and they gave me a reasonable offer. I gave them a 6th rounder this year and the 2nd rounder for 09. Rice will help in my power running game that I will utilize, taking the some of the workload off of Frank Gore.

Whoa! That was alot of typing for one day. I wasn't near a computer last night, so I jotted down all my notes and typed them all up today so I am current to what my head coach is at now. I hope to have some more in tomorrow. Again as always, thanks for reading.

Yea, it'll definitely be interesting seeing what he can do. I got him for reasonably cheap and if he doesn't work out I can dump him next year.

I had a feeling you would pick up Kenny Phillips.
Like the Ray Rice selection too

Yea, it definitely surprised me too. I was happy to pick up Phillips even though I was aiming for maybe a tightend. It would've been interesting had a TE and Phillips available. Yea, I was surprised Rice went down that far, but with Gore and Rice I should have a great backfield along with Robinson.

I don't know why you don't draft him, sit him for a year, then have him take over. Hopefully you'll get the Jake English draft then if you're not drafting Brink

It has been a few weeks since I have updated and alot has gone on. We have finished the second part of the draft. A few cuts were made, some positions were changed and I really think now that we are starting to develop a nucleus of a football team. They just have to show it on the field now when training camp starts. Here is the rundown:

                                Round 3

The rest of the rounds aren't really important in regards to the other teams, but here are the people I drafted.

                                Round 5: RT Breno Giacomini
                                Round 7: LT Nathan Bank

Overall I am fairly pleased with the draft. Was able to get a good middle linebacker, and was shocked to see Dennis Dixon fall as low as he did. I was afraid someone would pick him up, but I never saw his name come off, so I was elated when my turn came around. The other two picks were just to shore up the offensive line. I also invited some undrafted rookies to camp.

                                QB Andre Woodson
                                CB Orlando Scandrick
                                HB Xavier Omon
                                ROLB Harry Thompson
                                WR Davone Bess

Lastly, I made some roster moves. Some might not go over well with the owner and the media.

                                -Released Shaun Hill.
-Added Alex Smith to the trade block.
-Moved Adam Snyder from LT to RT.
