Titans Notes
- Chris Johnson Holds Out | The Titans star wants a new contract and he's planning on holding out until he gets one. Johnson, who broke Erick Dickerson's record of rushing yards in a season with 2,343 last year, is scheduled to make just $2.23 million in 2011, a disappointing amount for a star such as Johnson. "I wanna get like, you know, ten or twelve a year," said Johnson in an interview. "That'll be good. Six years, seventy million. Straight up." No word yet on how the contract negotiations are going. The Titans have signed ex-Falcon Jerious Norwood to take Johnson's spot for the time being.
- Tuck Enjoying His New Team | Justin Tuck has played his entire six year career with the New York Giants. Now, he's a part of the Tennessee Titans after a Draft Day Trade sent him to Nashville. "I'm liking it here a lot," said Tuck after practice. "Coach Fisher is an impressive guy. He knows a lot, and runs a great practice. I can't wait to play here."
- McRath Ready For Starting Role | Titans linebacker Gerald McRath is entering training camp this year considered the starter despite missing a majority of last year with an injury. "It's a great chance for me to succeed. I'm excited to step up and become an important role for this team."
- Rookie Safety Somerville Looking Impressive | Fifth round pick Lorenzo Somerville out of Clemson has impressed coaches already through training camp running down some of the fastest players on the team [99 speed]. He can also explode off the line with the best of them [99 acceleration] and has proved to be very agile [95]. Head coach Jeff Fisher has announced that he'd like to see Somerville play a few returns in the second half of their preseason opener against the 49ers.
NFL Notes
- Jets CB Revis Holds Out | You all knew it was coming. Darrelle Revis is holding out. Revis has stated he wants to be the highest paid cornerback in the league, which would require him to receive a contract that pays him nearly seventeen million dollars this year, as Nnamdi Asomugha is slated to make $16.90 million this year on the Raiders. Although rumors have come that Revis could be traded, it's unlikely that anyone will be interested in giving up the price tag the Jets will probably ask for him.
- Bills Shopping Running Backs | CJ Spiller is set to take on the starting role despite not seeing any time on the field in 2010 and with twenty-five year old Marshawn Lynch plummeting down the depth chart, the Bills are talking trade. Fred Jackson, at thirty years old, could also be on the block if there isn't enough interest for Lynch.
- 49ers Excited About New QB | Late in the first round, the 49ers selected Southern Mississippi quarterback Adam McCann after both Alex Smith and Shaun Hill were released. McCann, a 6'3" 220-pound wowed many with his impressive arm strength [96] but slipped down from the top ten with throwing on the run [65] and deep ball accuracy [74]. McCann is slated to battle Ball State product Nate Davis for the starting role.
