A struggling defense against Case Keenum and Houston...? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

OT..I wish my fiancee would convince me to play video games for 4 hours. I did get her to play Red Dead Redemption for a few hours but she mostly sees video games as a waste of time.

Actually I am using Romancaesers updated rosters, so it has Kennum and the backup both hurt, so I played against the FR Terrence Broadway..

As far as the wife playing. She is a addict, once we start playing, it is typically me that has to tell her we have to quit. If it was up to her we would probably play the game all day.

        WEEK 4

        (2-1) VS (1-2)

        GAME PREVIEW

Orginally this game was slated to be a big deal in Denton, as the Mean Green were going to host a Top-25 team at Forbes Field. Instead Houston lost their starting QB and Heisman canidate SR Case Kennum and backup QB Cotton Turner. Now the Cougars are 1-2 and have FR QB Terrance Broadway running the show. However they do still have 3 returning 1000 yd recievers in James Cleveland, Tyron Carrier and Patrick Edwards.

UNT has been somewhat of a surprise upseting #3 Texas to open the season, they then challenge #6 TCU in Week 2 until the final minutes, but then escaped with a 45-42 win over Rice at home as week. The question on everyone's mind tonight was what Mean Green "D" will show up.

Key's to victory-Less then 2 INT's by R. Dodge. Establish a pass rush and keep Broadway under 300 yds. Continue to feed L. Dunbar the ball.

        GAME RECAP

Houston would win the toss and elect to kick. After a 3 and out, T. Broadway would use his recievers to go 80 yds down field connecting on a 4yd pass to K. Bibbins to take the (7-0) lead. After that both teams would struggle to establish much offense as they traded punt for punt.

Finally with 2:46 to play in the half, L. Dunbar would get the Mean Green in the endzone with a 6 yd run. (7-7) Again the "D" would step up and force the punt getting the ball back with 1:52 to play. Riley Dodge would lead the Offense looking to make something happen. Instead Dodge would take a huge hit leaving him on the ground for several minutes. Finally trainers would escort him on the field, and SR N. Tune would come in. A dropped pass on 3rd down would force the punt, and the UNT Special teams would give up a 54 yd punt return my P. Edwards as Houston took the (14-7) lead into the half.

The Mean Green would take the field in the 2nd half without the SO QB leader. Dodge was done for the night as team doctors wanted to take a closer look at his injury. The Defense again would step up forcing a fumble getting the ball back into the hands of the Offense, and the "O" would deliver as L. Dunbar runs in his 2nd TD of the game (1 yd out) to tie it (14-14). After antother 3 and out, it was QB N. Tune throwing his first TD of the season hitting Jamal Jackson on a 28 yd TD (21-14)

The Mean Green "D" would continue to shutout the Cougars high potent offense in the 4th as T. Broadway finishes with just 9 complete passes and throws 2 INT's. The Offense would also deliever as Tune hits L. Dunbar on a 1 yd screen pass and T. Stradford for a 13 yd pass as the Mean Green get the blowout win at home.

        FINAL SCORE NORTH TEXAS-35 HOUSTON-14

        KEY PLAYERS

        QB N. Tune 13/22 121 yds 3 TD's
        QB R. Dodge 5/17 87 yds
        RB L. Dunbar 23 carries 109 yds 2 TD, 5 rec 44 yds 1 TD
        WR J. Jackson 5 rec 51 yds 1 TD
        WR T. Stradford 5 rec 39 yds 1 TD
        TE A. Fitzpatrick 2 rec 61 yds
DE K. Obi 4 tackles (all TFL) 2 sacks
        DT S. Atkinson 8 tackes (7 solo)

        QB T. Broadway 9/36 80 yds 1 TD 2 INT
        RB B Beall 23 carries 82 yds

        POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "I know alot of you want to know what's going on with Riley. Right now the doctors are thinking it's a strained achilles, which would mean he would only miss the next 3-4 weeks, but we have dealt with past injuries to his arm as well, and he hasn't always healed quickly. In fact we almost moved him to WR because of the arm issues which are still lingering, which leads me to believe that is part of his INT issues. Right now we don't have a gameplan. We are going to have to look at removing the redshirt status from either SO D. Thompson or FR D. Teegarden. Because we currently don't have a #3 QB.

As far as the game goes, I was really pleased with N. Tune's performance. He has practiced well of late and he came in and made some big plays when we needed it. However tonight my hat goes off to the "D". They played amazing. To go from giving up 42 points to Rice to only giving up 14 to Houston is outstanding."

          WEEK 4 RECAP
#8 Alabama was shocked yet again as the tide lost their 2nd game of the season 20-10 to #23 Arkansas. Thing's won't get any easier next week either as Alabama host #14 Florida.

With the loss, #9 Georgia Tech moves up a spot as does Oregon well #11 USC joins the Top-10.

Another major shocker was #18 Texas losing to UCLA 20-10 at home. The loss knocks the Longhorns out of the Top-25 for the 2nd time this year.

We see 3 teams join the Top-25 this week as Navy comes in at #23 after a 3-0 start. LSU rejoins the at #24 after beating #22 West Virginia and Notre Dame makes it's 1st appearence after a 3-0 start. However the Irish face a tough next 2 weeks as they host (4-0) Michigan and then travel to Columbus to play the #1 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Biggest news comes from the Media Poll as fail to agree with the Coaches Poll on the Top-5 spots. As they name Boise State #1 with 41 1st place votes.

          (Coaches Poll in [] )

          #1 Boise State [2]
          #2 Ohio State [1]
          #3 TCU [4]
          #4 Virginia Tech [3]
          #5 Penn State [12]
          #6 Iowa [6]
          #7 Nebraska [5]
          #8 Georgia Tech [8]
          #9 Wisconsin [7]

Actually I am leaning toward taking the redshirt off of D. Thompson and starting him, leaving Tune as the backup. In real life, R. Dodge actually was being discussed at moving to WR because of arm issues. He is a 64 Overall WR. Tune doesn't run as well as Dodge thus he doesn't give me the dual threat I am looking for, but he does have decent accuracy so if I can get some blocking and get my run game going, he is okay when not asked to throw 50 times a game.

                TEAM REPORT

                RILEY DODGE OUT 4-5 WEEKS
For the 4th time in his young career Riley Dodge will miss playing time. Only time will tell if his injury will be if this one finally causes his move from QB to WR.

COACH BRYAN DODGE REMOVES REDSHIRT FROM THOMPSON.
After a week of practice win which saw both RS SO Derick Thompson and FR Derrick Teegarden share reps with SR N. Tune, Coach Dodge has not only decided to remove the redshirt from Thompson but also to name him this week's starter against rival SMU.

Coach Dodge "We feel like that with Riley's injury we need to prepare for our longterm plan and that is that Derick Thompson. Derick like Riley gives us the dual threat ability that helps our offense run at full strength. SR N. Tune will still serve in the role of #2 and I am sure if needed he can and will provide us the ability to still win games."

Thompson saw action in 1 game last season completing 3/3 passes for 60 yds and 1 TD.

RB L. DUNBAR TO SEE MORE TOUCHES
After losing their starting QB, Coach Dodge has announced that L. Dunbar will play a bigger role in the offense from this point out.

Coach Dodge "More touches doesn't just mean handing the ball to him and hoping he will make plays. We will also look to move him out of the backfield and use him in some WR sets, as we continue to struggle to find a WR outside of Jamal Jackson who can hold onto the ball."

                    (3-1) VS (1-3)

                    GAME PREVIEW

Seperated by just 40 miles these 2 Dallas area schools started a rivalary back in 1922 that has been off and on over the years. Back in 1994 after a 2 year stint of not playing SMU, UNT Head Coach Matt Simon made the statement his guy's wanted to play the Mustangs so bad, they would meet them in the parking lot of a Safeway to see who was best, so since then this game has been labeled the "Safeway Bowl"

SMU has beaten the Mean Green in 28 of the 33 games they have played including their last meeting in 2007. However both schools have since hired new coaches (SMU-June Jones) (UNT-Bryan Dodge) and established high scoring offenses. So we expect this game to be a old fashion Texas Shootout.

                    GAME RECAP

This game would go nothing like anyone expected. Both teams would struggle to move the ball down field in the 1st Quarter and North Texas would take the (6-0) lead on 2 FG's by T. Deans (39 and 40 yds).

In the 2nd Quarter SMU would get on the score board with 2 short TD rns (2 yd by Z. Line and 1yd by QB K. Pardon). The Mustangs would also get a 36 yd FG as well, but UNT wouldn't be kept out of the endzone either as SO QB Derick Thompson making his 1st start of his career hit backup RB J. Hamilton on a 10yd screen pass for the TD. UNT would go for 2pt but fail and go into the half down (17-12)

UNT would get the 2nd half kick and after playing it safe in the 1st half, QB D. Thompson was ready to show what he could do. Thompson would air it out throwing 2 more TD's (15 yds to T. Stradford and 37 yds to Jamal Jackson). Hitting a 2pt conversion and the Pat, UNT now lead (27-17) heading into the 4th.

Thompson continued to showcase his skills in the 4th passing for his 4th TD of the game on a 42 yd bomb to A. Lott, as well as leading 2 drives that ended in T. Dean Field goals (19 yds & 33 yds) as North Texas took the (40-17) lead with 3 minutes to play. SMU's K. Pardon would lead his team down the field determined to get into the endzone and with 1:11 to play the Pardon would take it in himself on a 3 yd QB keeper (40-24) SMU would attempt a onside kick but UNT would recover. UNT would go to the ground to run out the clock, but with 5 seconds to play, Coach Dodge would send out the special teams unit as T. Deans kicks the 27 yd FG (his 5th of the night) as time expires.

                    FINAL SCORE UNT-42 SMU-24

                    KEY PLAYERS

                    QB D. Thompson-26/53 400 yds 4 TD's 2 INT
                    RB L. Dunbar 23 carries 80 yds, 7 rect 110 yds
                    WR J. Jackson-12 rec 176 yds 1 TD
                    PK T. Deans 5/6 FG

                    QB K. Pardon-18/46 239 yds, 17 carries 29 yds 2 TD's

                    POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "I know all you want to talk about the FG at the end of the game. I made a mistake. I thougth Tyler had a chance to break a school record and I wanted to give him a chance. It's done and over with. Lets move on to what we really should be talking about and that is the play of D. Thompson and L. Dunbar. Both played better then we could've imagined. Derick made some nice throws and did a great job of getting the ball into the hands of our playmakers Dunbar and Jackson. That's what we are going to focus on going into the next 2 weeks. We have 3 tough games ahead of us as we travel to Arizona and Arizona State before hosting #1 Boise State. Unless we keep our focus we could easily end up 4-4 and that's not where we want to be."

I actually started out using the spread for a game then expierement with the run and shoot, but decided in the end I prefer running the pro with Boise State's playbook. I guess it's from playing with it for so long, I know what plays I like and the balance of run and pass plays it offers.

I used the run and shoot with SMU on my dynasty with them. I'm in year 5 and I hate the run and shoot, but I can't run worth a damn. I play 15 minutes and heisman and the passing yards are rediculous

                            WEEK 5 RECAP

With the arrival of Week 5 and the Top-25 Media Poll. We are now going to switch our focus to the Media Poll when talking about future rankings.

Last Week we saw Boise State make National news as the Broncos took over the #1 spot with Alabama's loss. Well the Broncos kept doing what they do best and that was scoring points and winning games as they cruised past UTEP 41-0 to keep the top spot.

Ohio State stayed at #2 with a easy win over Illinois 41-7. and TCU stayed at #3 after a trilling Overtime win over Texas A&M 47-46

In fact the entire Top-10 stayed the same. The biggest shocker was not only seeing #12 USC lose to Washington 34-31 OT, but we also saw the #20 Alabama lost their 3rd game of the season in a 30-27 OT loss to #13 Florida who moved up 1 spot to #12.

(Other big wins where #6 Iowa beating #21 Georgia 34-0, #17 Miami FL beating Clemson 34-31, and unranked (4-0) Michigan defeating previously unbeating #25 Notre Dame 37-34 in Ovetime. POST GAME INTERVIEW

Coach Dodge "I take full responsibilty for the loss. I switch things up this week as we looked to add some twist's to our offense (tried the pistol) and it didn't work. We struggled to move the ball down field and I got away from the ground game once we were trailing.. I felt like some different playcalls might open the door for Thompson to use his feet to make plays and not have to force it down field as much. It didn't work and now we move on. We play a (0-5) UNLV team next week and I know they are out for blood looking to get their 1st win of the season"
