    Gopher Nation - NCAA 11

    Gopher Football

The Gophers football team has been in existence for a very long time, in fact actually one of the oldest teams in the league having their first season in 1882. If you look at them now, it sure doesn't seem like they would have a winning record over time, but their lifetime record is 635-454-44 which is worth a .580 win percentage. That's pretty good, but there just hasn't been much recent success.

The Gophers have won 6 national titles, but most of them came during the Bernie Bierman era in which 5 of those national titles came. He coached the Gophers to a 93-35-6 record during his span at the University of Minnesota. He won 7 Big Ten titles, and obtained 5 undefeated seasons with the Gophers from 1932-1941, and 1945-1950. The Gophers last national title came in 1960, and they haven't sniffed a Rose Bowl since 1962. The last Big Ten conference title the Gophers obtained was in 1967.

As we can see, it's been quite some time since the Gophers have been a prominent team in the nation let alone the Big Ten. After firing Glen Mason who coached the team from 1997-2006 to a 64-57 (.535 win percentage), Tim Brewster was hired in 2006 and used the term "Gopher Nation." I used this as the name of my dynasty because it was comical to both myself and the rest of Gopher football fans, and since he was fired, I changed it back to "Gold Country" which many Gopher fans prefer. Tim Brewster's hiring was a disaster and he held a 15-30 record (.333 win percentage) in 3 1/2 seasons with the Gophers. He was relieved of his duties as the Head Coach on October 16, 2010. His job was taken over by Jeff Horton, and isn't faring any better, but did do a nice job in holding the team together and pulling together compiling a 2-3 record with wins over Illinois and #24 Iowa. He is in on an interim basis, and it's likely that he will not be back at the end of the year. Horton did do three things that Tim Brewster couldn't do in his entire tenure with the Gophers:

    1. Win a game vs. a rival
    2. Win a game vs. a Top 25 team
    3. Win a trophy game

He was able to do all three in just one game and won the Floyd of Rosedale in the last game of the 2010 season.

I'm going to be starting my dynasty with the Gophers at the start of the 2010 season to try to lead them back to the glory that the Gophers haven't found for over 40 years, a Big Ten Conference Championship, and a National Title.

As for this dynasty, I will be using Jerry Kill, the newly minted coach of the Golden Gophers. Even though he wasn't hired until after the 2010 year, I won't be posting coaching comments after the game until after the Ohio State game in the 2011 season. Thanks for reading.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do. The Big Ten is tough.

      Coach's Comments:

We know what type of team we are going to be and that's going to be a running team with a tandem of Duane Bennett and Deleon Eskridge, there is plenty of running to go around as we know that our defense isn't the best one out there, but we will continue to try to be a hard team to play against.

We will be able to throw with SR Adam Weber behind center, and with Troy Stoudermire, Brandon Green, and Da Jon McKnight will keep teams honest. There is plenty of weapons on offense, but the defense will have something to prove this year with not boasting the same talent on the lines or in the linebacking core.

          Gophers Win Close One

The Gophers season has begun, and they were very lucky to come away with a 21-17 win over Middle Tennessee State. The Gophers played well late in the 2nd, coming away with a TD pass to Troy Stoudermire to take the lead going into the half, and the defense would hold strong to allow nothing in the 4th quarter.

BIG POINT: With less than a minute to play, Middle Tennessee State QB Dwight Dasher throw an interception to CB Spencer Reeves while on the Gopher's 30 yard line which sealed the deal and allowed the Gophers to win.

            Gophers' 2010 Recruits

The Gophers obtained their first recruit of the year, Ricky Williams from White Bear Lake. He will be insurance at the P position, but looks like he'll be handling most of the kicking duties next year.

The Gophers are actively recruiting many players.

Week 2 - vs. FCS West

              Gophers Blow out FCS West

In a statement game, Adam Weber threw 8 TD's for 570 Yds and those are both school records. The Gophers would come out early and would not stop piling on the points, and it was just a big confidence builder before they have to face USC the next week.

The Gophers did play well, but the defense must get better if it wants to have any shot at beating USC.

Yeah I was super confused by this, but I plan to use him as my K, better than a walk-on I'm told lol

What's funny too is all of the WR's I'm going for are 6'1" 6'2" ish

                      Gophers Lose Big

The Gopher's first two games were supposed to be warm-ups to this one vs. USC Trojans. I think that they need more time to get up to speed as the Trojans won big this Saturday 52-24. The Gophers took the ball and drove all the way down the field, but had to settle for a FG in the red zone, this set the tone for the whole game.

The Gophers simply couldn't control USC's bigger, stronger, and faster players. They just were simply no match against the #11 USC Trojans. The Gophers D played well in stretches, but the team felt like swiss cheese on 3rd downs where the Gopher's offense couldn't convert them, and the USC offense were able to convert at a 62% rate.

Next up for the Gophers, They will be home vs. Northern Illinois and hope to get back into the win column.

Re: Gopher Nation - NCAA 11

Looks like the first 2 games you totally dominated the opposing team's attack.

What level and slider set are you playing with?

Tough loss to USC but that is to be expected. Their level of talent is still among the nations best even if their ranking doesn't show it.

Thanks, I think I'm going to have a rough time this year.

I'm playing on All-American with SECElite's sliders. I like the way that they play, but I tinkered with some of the ratings there. I played a few games in a previous franchise before I started this one to see how they played. I'm also playing 8 minute quarters.

USC just shredded me in every way, I thought I had a chance right away, but they were just too much for my defense. My defense is definitely my weak point.

The Big Ten looks as hard as ever with every team either being undefeated or 2-1. It should be an interesting year once the conference play begins.
