It had to be one of the most frustrating games I've played, so I'm happy that I've been able to recruit at 4* QB this year, and hopefully I can have him groomed well enough so that I will have another QB to take over, but it was a really tough game. Michigan's offense destroyed me.

Yeah, all is not lost though, Penn State is leading the division at 5-0, and I play them so I could still win a BCS bid if I don't lose any more games.

Just started following this and have to say that is a very tough loss. Just beat PSU and I will be happy.

            Week 11 - vs. Northwestern

McKnight's Big Day Leads Gophers to Victory

Da Jon McKnight continues his stellar Heisman candidate year with this 64 Yd TD catch and run from MarQueis Gray.

Minneapolis, MN - The Gophers rebounded well after a disappointing loss to the Wolverines and took it to the Wildcats until the 4th quarter when the Wildcats made their move to try and tie it, but in the end, the 31 points the Gophers put up held up and they pulled off another big win. Da Jon McKnight had 7 receptions for 182 yards and 3 touchdowns and having MarQueis Gray back certainly helped going 20-53 397 yards and 3 touchdowns, but he also was somewhat inaccurate in which Gray threw 3 interceptions. It was a really sloppy game for the Gophers, they had 5 turnovers and will need to correct that for next week vs. Penn State.

Coach Kill comments: "I thought it was a decent game for the guys, they know that they need to correct the turnovers, but we have to stay focused for the whole 60 minutes, it shouldn't have been that close and our whole team kind of lethargic at the end. We have to have that fire throughout the entire game. Also, I was very unhappy with the 3-13 on 3rd down conversion, that is unacceptable."

Turning Point - Da Jon McKnight's catch and run (pictured above) for 64 yards really started off the rout for the Gophers. (which ended up being a much closer game than it should have been)

Week 12 - vs. Penn State

Gophers Regain Title Hopes With Big Win

Eric Lair's 25 yard touchdown catch put the Gophers ahead mid-way through the 3rd quarter 17-10.

Minneapolis, MN - The Gophers knew that this was the big one, with a win here, they had a good shot at winning the Big Ten title, and not only that, to get their name thrown back into the National Championship picture. The #5 ranked Gophers battled the #7 Penn State Nittany Lions in a battle for the Governor's Victory Bell. The Nittany Lions had won it the past 4 times, but the Gophers would have none of it in the second quarter. It was a close game after one half in which the score was tied 10-10. The Gophers would proceed to score 31 unanswered points that sunk the Nittany Lions down to #13 this week in the updated polls. However, the Gophers found themselves back up to the #3 spot in the Coaches' Poll, and #4 in the BCS rankings. All that remains for the Gophers is the Hawkeyes and the Battle for the Floyd of Rosedale. If they are able to win that, the Rose Bowl is a for sure, and there may be a chance at the National Title game. It won't be easy though, it's in Iowa City and the Hawkeyes are ranked #8 going into the game. It should be a good one. Heisman candidate Da Jon McKnight had 9 receptions for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns, but the real hero today was MarQueis Gray who went 16-35 for 276 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Coach Kill's Comments - "This is a huge win for our organization. We played well the whole game, but I'm still concerned about our lack of 3rd down conversions (2-11) and we lost the turnover battle once again. We can't continuing doing that and expect to win. If we want to beat the Hawkeyes, we'll have to play much better than that. We'll be working very hard this week to HOLD ON TO THE BALL!"

Turning Point - Eric Lair's 25 yard touchdown catch from MarQueis Gray separated the two clubs and it was over from that point on.

                    Week 13 - @ Iowa

Gophers Clinch Big Ten Title in Exciting Finish

Jewhan Edwards (#68) sacks James Vadenberg (#16).

Iowa City, IA - The Gophers thought that they had this one locked up, but a returned interception followed by a returned fumble put the Hawkeyes up 31-30 late in the 2nd half, but on the ensuing kickoff Michael Carter continued his stellar day with a kick-off return for a touchdown. He also had 3 interceptions on the day. The Gophers' defense would stand tall and they were able to run the clock out. A huge win that saw them move up to #2 in the Coaches' Poll and BCS standings. They have two byes and no championship game, so they'll just have to wait and see if they get a bid to the National Championship game, but otherwise, they have the Big Ten title locked up.

Coach Kill's Comments - "I'm so proud of this team, we fought our hearts out this game and Michael's runback meant everything to this team. To be honest with you, I didn't think that we would be able to win a big title in such a short time, but the guys in that room deserve all of the credit. They were very good and now we just hope that we'll get a shot at playing for the National Title."

Turning Point - How can you say anything besides Michael Carter's kickoff return for a touchdown. It basically won the game for the Gophers.

BCS National Championship Game - vs. #1 Boise State

ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER

Duane Bennett (#22) converts from 1 yard out to win it for the Gophers in OT to cap off an amazing Championship game.

New Orleans, LA - In the game that the whole world was watching, the #2 Minnesota Gophers 11-1 (7-1) and the #1 Boise State Broncos 12-0 (8-0) did not disappoint. The game was really sloppy by both sides in which we saw the turn the ball over 4 times and MarQueis Gray was incredibly inaccurate. Dan Orseske only went 2/5 on FG attempts and 2 of the three missed were less than 30 yards out. On Boise's side, K Albert Griffith (True FR) missed all 3 of his FG attempts and missed an extra point kick. The biggest miss for young Griffith came in OT. Kellen Moore was excellent and went 21-33, 389 yards, 2 touchdowns, and an interception.

We all thought going into this game, it was going to be all about Da Jon McKnight. McKnight still had a good game coming up with 6 receptions for 78 yards with no touchdowns. The real hero of the game was Duane Bennett. He had 101 yards on 23 carries and scored twice including the game-winning touchdown in overtime.

I'll start off in the 4th quarter when the Gophers scored on a 2-yard touchdown run from Duane Bennett put the Gophers up for the first time by a score of 13-6. It was a bit of back and forth, but Boise eventually got the ball back. A 66 yard pitch and catch from Moore to Burroughs knotted the score at 13-13. MarQueis Gray threw another interception and the Broncos took over at about their own 45. Moore methodically moved them down the field to set up a field goal with 3 ticks left. Griffith missed right, and we headed to OT.

In OT, the Gophers won the toss and decided to play defense first. Once again, Kellen Moore threw a pass that should have been caught for a touchdown, but young kicker Griffith missed a chip shot from 25 yards out. Coach Kill knew that with a great kicker in Orseske, he didn't have to do much in order to win this game starting at the 25 yard line. He handed the ball off the Bennett repeatedly and was rewarded ultimately with a 1 yard run for the touchdown and the win for the national title.

Coach Kill's Comments - "I'm so proud of the guys, they gave up that big play at the end of the game, but just didn't break. Gray didn't have a great game, but other guys were there to pick him up. That's what this season was all about for the guys. It wasn't an undefeated season, but we reached our ultimate goal. I'm so proud of every guy on that locker room. They really put their hearts and souls into this and we came out with the win. I can't say enough about these guys. It was a truly magical season and we're going to enjoy it!"

Turning Point - There was so many in this game. There were so many different points in the game that swung momentum either way. It was a great game to see.
