No doubt a great start. Do you run a lot of counters on the ground?

I try to change up the runs a lot, I run the counter probably 3-5 times a game. I run a pitch or stretch 3-5 times, and I run quite a bit up the middle or just off the tackles. I ran for good gains up the middle vs. BC, but really struggled vs. USC. I usually pass out of the shotgun and I find a lot of open space, or Gray has a monster speed rating so I usually have him run quite a bit.

I was thinking about running the spread, but I'm not very familiar with it, so I kept the Pro style game and a 4-3 defense. I was thinking about switching to the 3-4 defense, but decided against it.

Nice finish to last season and way to start out this year with the big win over USC in Week 1.

Playing in the Big Ten is tough, hopefully your team has what it takes to make a run for a title though.

I had a horrible feeling that whole game vs. USC. They were driving and I think they were down to my 7 Yd line before Barkley threw a pick, they seemed to move the ball at will in the 2nd half. I couldn't stop them at all.

I think Ohio State and Wisconsin will give me major trouble, especially because I have to go to Ohio State and play them there. I'm thinking I will most likely lose at least 2 games.

For the first couple years I was at Western Kentucky I ran the spread with Florida's playbook and had some good success on the ground. QB had 1,400 or 1,500 yards first year rushing, and I had a 1,000 yard RB. QB next season had over 1,600 yards rushing. Florida's playbook has some decent QB designed runs. Only difference would be you're playing in the Big Ten, not the Sun Belt lol.

Yeah, I'm not sure how well it'd work in the Big Ten. I might think about a switch if things start to go south. I'm really comfortable with the Pro offense, and Gray can get some great yards rushing, but I just have to slide more often because he fumbles a lot.

I'll have to mess around with it maybe in practice and once McKnight and Stoudermire leave after next year.

Thanks for reading! Yeah, I figured for sure that we would go to OT and I would lose. It's a good challenge playing USC, shows how far I have to go. I was surprised by that too, but everyone at the top is winning, so it's tough to move up right now, I just know I'll lose at least 1 game this year, probably more than that.

Yeah, USC has always given me pains too. Before my HD went bad, I had a barn burner against them with Cal and lost in the final two minutes, 26-21. And I guess you are right about the polls and the way they are. There is hope though for ya I believe. Just one thing, don't annihilate Penn State if you play them...They my boys! lol
Penn State beat me at home last year, so I'm not sure how that game will go this year. I'm targeting a lot of 4* recruits this year, I don't think I'm not confident that I will land many though, so I might experience a big fall-off the planet next year, hopefully I can play in a BCS bowl this year.

Week 3 - vs. Miami University

                    Gophers Just Keep Winning

The Gophers entered the season with newfound optimism, and with a big win vs. USC to start the season, it was a pretty good shot that they could go undefeated before conference play began. The Gophers are 3/4 of the way to being done with that because they routed Miami University 48-0.

Gray was great as well as McKnight was, and the Gophers are starting to gain some national steam now sitting at #18 in the Top 25. They have San Jose State this week, and then a bye before starting the Big Ten schedule.

If you get a chance check out Boise State's playbook. It is a Pro/Spread style that has a nice mix of Running formations plus alot of Shotgun plays including 5 WR sets. I found when I was playing with Baylor,Texas Tech and Missouri's playbooks I could still pass for 300+ yds but struggled to find run plays. Now when I switched to BSU, I get a nice balance of Run and Pass yds.

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try it in practice mode and see how it goes, maybe I'll move over to that later on in the year if I struggle with the Pro.

Yeah, they just weren't rated very high, so I figured I could play pretty well against them, but shutting them out sure wasn't expected.

Yeah, I could have scored way more than 48, but I felt like being a merciful guy lol

Week 4 - vs. San Jose State University

                              Gophers Destroy San Jose Spartans

The Gophers left no doubt on the field again this week as they destroyed the San Jose State Spartans in a 63-7 rout in which Da Jon McKnight continued to impress with 11 receptions for 179 Yds and 3 scores. He has been on fire this year, and hopes to win this heisman this year, but the tough schedule that begins after the bye week with Indiana and the #5 rated Badgers, it should be a good test for this Gopher squad.

Next week is a bye, then next up will be Indiana.
