    Wave crush the Owls

(Boca Raton, Florida) - Mistake after mistake piled on for the Owls who seemed helpless against Tulane despite an early mistake that seemed to give them momentum. The lone turnover for the Wave coming off a pitch for the Wave that would be turned into a fumble from a miscommunication and scooped up by the Owls who brought it back the short yards needed for a score. After that it was just ugly. 42 unanswered points for the Wave.

Barnett had back to back scores, the first coming right after the score from Florida Atlantic, a sixty four rush up the middle that completely caught the Owl offtrack and left them helpless to the big score. After an Owl drive, the Wave drove downfield slowly but steadily with Steve Barnett scoring again on a fourteen yard scamper putting them up 14-0. As time expired in the quarter, cornerback Ryan Travis scooped up a fumble in his own red zone bringing it back ninety-two yards for the score. 21-7.

Twenty one more points in the secound quarter for the Wave. The first after a decent drive from the Wave that ended with Evan Nelson scrambling on third and goal and scoring on a six yard run. Orleans Darkwa would pick up the second touchdown, scoring on a goal line rush to put them ahead 35-7. When the Owls seemed to be picking up some momentum it would once again be Ryan Travis intercepting a pass and bringing it back fifty six yards for the score his second score of the day.

Zaccario picked up a forty two yard field goal in the third quarter the only score from either team giving the Owls ten points but didn't stem the overwhelming momentum in favor of the Wave. Evan Nelson scoring his own touchdown pass of the day on a three yard pass on a half back screen to Orleans Darkwa putting them ahead 49-7, making this game ugly fast. Tulane is quickly proving they don't belong in the Sunbelt.

Blue Raiders keep it close but falter

(New Orleans, Louisiana) - Tulane struggled it was pretty obvious that was true. The winless Blue Raiders were playing their hearts out and it was big plays that killed them in the Green Wave's 28-17 victory over the Raiders.

The first score coming on the defensive end when Casey Blum (defensive end) scooped up a fumble running it back fifty-seven yards getting tackled into the end zone but Tulane was in control. The Raiders would respond moving the ball steadily before finding a sizable hole in the Wave defense, Kilgore tossing a screen to Calhoun who would follow his blockers for a thirty yard untouched score, tying the game.

Evan Nelson would throw an interception on first down, with the Raiders turning it into a Wyatt thirty five yard field goal giving them the lead. Yet it wouldn't hold through the last thirty seconds of the quarter as "Primetime" JoJo Dobbs turned another huge play, streaking past his defender as Evan Nelson lobbed up a decent pass that would hit him in stride for a seventy two yard score. Both teams would be held scoreless in the second quarter ending the half at 14-10.

The Blue Raiders fired out of the gates with Murphy throwing a beautiful streaking pass to Turner for an eighty-two yard score that will be remembered as one of the longest in NCAA history. The Tulane Green Wave moved downfield slowly managing to retake the lead when on a Play action fake, Orleans Darkwa would end up with the reception turning it into a twenty seven yard score 21-17 in favor of the Wave.

Getting some breathing room, the Wave drove downfield again and with the final score of the game Evan Nelson would pick up the touchdown pass hitting Eddie Tatford for a six yard pass on a flat route. After a three and out, the Wave ran out the clock escaping New Orleans with win number six and bowl elgibility.

Warhawks can't cap off rally and Wave do just enough to hold onto the win

(Monroe, Lousiana) - This win wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination. It looked like it would be ugly, the opening kickoff brought back for a touchdown by Ryan Travis for his first of the year and after a three and out the Wave drove downfield yet again with Santos knocking through a tiny twenty six yard field goal making it a 10-0 game. The Warhawks wouldn't even respond on their following drive, going three and out yet again. This time the Wave would too and the ball came back to Louisiana-Monroe. Driving downfield, utilizing a passing attack that shredded the Wave secondary, Browning would hit Steed for a five yard score bringing it back within one possession. 10-7.

Evan Nelson wouldn't be contained much longer and after trading three and outs, would open up the second quarter with a score on a twenty six yard pass to top receiver Ryan Grant making it a 17-7 game. A fumble later and the Wave would be in prime field position, setting up a four yard Orleans Darkwa scamper between guard and tackle extending the lead to 23-7 and looking like this would be getting out of hand. Santos missed the extra point giving some momentum to the Warhawks who would respond somewhat slowly moving downfield and stalling in Wave territory but deep enough that Andrews could convert a field goal from forty yards out ending the half at a score of 23-10.

The third quarter did little to bring the Warhawks into this game as the teams would trade touchdowns early. Receiving the kickoff, the Wave drove downfield with a punishing rush attack mixed with an average Evan Nelson passing attack. Getting to the goal line, Orleans Darkwa punched the ball into the endzone running behind center extending the Tulane lead 30-10. After the kick off, the Warhawks would run the first two plays making it third and five and on third and five, Browning would see Russell open deep and launch a beautiful rocket of a pass and coming up with the catch Russell would outrun the secondary for a 30-17 score the third quarter ending with neither team scoring again.

Tulane was in gear to close out the game, utilizing long snap counts and slow running offensive formations that are typically opposite of what Coach Tyler Starks preaches. But with hopes of closing ot the game they would kill a solid chunk of the quarter and manage to punch the ball into the end zone on a five yard pitch from Steve Barnett. On the following play, Browning would hook up with Travis Maye for his first of two scores. After a thee and out from the Wave Kolton Browning came out hooking up with Tavarese Maye for another huge score a seventy-two yard pass. The Wave would recover the onside kick, and manage to pick up the first down and with under a minute left, were able to hold off the Warhawks.

Evan Nelson finished 12-23 for 205 yards and a lone touchdown compared to Kolton Browning who had completed 13 of 23 for almost a hundred more yards (303) and passing up four touchdowns with a single interception in a career day for the Junior quarterback. Orleans Darkwa once again pushed past 150 rushing yards rushing 29 times for 180 yards (6.2 YPC) in another solid day for the half back. The Wave will make the short trip to Lafayette next week to face the (2-3) Ragin' Cajuns.

Only thing Raging was the Waves

(Lafayette, Lousiana) - This one seemed close early on with the Ragin' Cajuns staying close with a solid rushing attack that came against one of the best rushing defenses in the NCAA including a fifty yard scoring run by Spikes for the lone score by the Cajuns in the opening two minutes of the quarter. Primetime JoJo Dobbs opening up the day with a Bubble screen that with solid blocking and a spin would turn into a seventy-four touchdown pass as the defens elooked confused and hopeless. On the following drive, the Cajuns would start to drive downfield before Spikes broke out a huge rush between guard and tackle as the Ragin' Cajuns managed to hold off a typically staunt rush defense of the Wave. A fifty yard score.

The passing attack continued to be effective for the Wave who drove downfield slower but still would score before even halfway through the first quarter on a twenty eight yard touchdown pass to Ryan Grant, neither team scoring again in the first despite having over half the quarter left.

The Wave started to drive against the Cajuns and on the opening play of the second quarter it was Orleans Darkwa scoring on a pitch from four yards out for the only score of the second quarter as the Wave pulled out a defense unit playing similar to what they put up against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

By the third quarter it was clear the offense which only made six first downs and picked up only 176 yards, thirty six on the ground (adjusted for sacks) despite Spikes picking up 61 yards off of eleven rushes for a 5.5 YPC average (one of the best against the Wave) the Cajuns just seemed intent to playing against an oddly overwhelming secondary that left the running game wide open.

Brent Comardelle would pop up in the scoring column again after a short hiatus in recent weeks from scoring on a thirty one pass for the final touchdown of the day, the third for Evan Nelson as the Green Wave who was now up 28-7 and looking to close out the game against an overwhelmed Cajun squad that couldn't play to its strengths.

The first safety for Coach Starks coming early in the fourth with the Cajuns dropping back to pass on their own goal line, a sack would turn into two points for the defense extending the lead into 30-7. The Cajuns would be unable to score or even put together a capable drive that gave the impression of scoring. The Wave would put up two more field goals before time expired one from thirty-one and the other from twenty-five as they hold onto the win. 36-7.

Evan Nelson had a break out game earning player of the game honors going 20-35 for 339 yards and three touchdowns. He did toss up two interceptions yet manage to go unsacked in this game. Orleans Darkwa had an average game by his standards, solid none the less. Rushing twenty two times for eighty two yards and a single touchdown. The Wave will travel to Arkansas State in what could decide the Sunbelt throne. The Red Wolves are 2-0 in conference the last unbeaten beside the Wave.

Ryan Aplin proves how diverse he is, ending Tulane's eight game win streak

(Jonesboro, Arkansas) - Ryan Aplin was an obvious threat through the air and Coach Tyler Starks knew that coming into this game. He did not know that he needed to cover against his legs as well as his arm as the option attack from Arkansas State proved to be a deciding factor in keeping the Tulane defense in check.

The Red Wolves provided a nice 'how to' on beating the Green Wave. It wasn't pretty, a combined seven turnovers made sure of that. Ryan Aplin threw no interceptions while Evan Nelson tossed up a pair of them. Both teams had their offensive attacks rack up over 350 yards, the Tulane defense showing it's weakness while the Red Wolves defense continues to lag behind the play of its offense.

A close battle throughout until the second half. Tulane came out early and struck on their first drive on a huge fifty three yard field goal from Santos his career long. The teams exchanged possessions trying to feel out weakness in the defense and the opportunity for the Wolves to strike presented itself off an Evan Nelson interception. On third and short the Wolves ran an option to the right side, a beautiful pitch left Frankie Jackson with a wide open field infront of him giving the Wolves the lead on a seventeen yard rush. 3-7.

The Wave would battle back putting up six after a long drive that showcased an oddly strong Arkansas State defense that ended up breaking once the Wave hit the red zone and surrendered a touchdown to Orleans Darkwa from one yard out on a punch up the middle.

The second quarter was a battle of field goals with Santos hitting his second of the game early in the quarter from twenty seven yards out (13-7), and Davis soon responded after a long Red Wolve drive would stall in the red zone, tapping one in from twenty yards out. Utilizing their two minute offense the Green Wave gradually moved downfield but only enough to be in field goal range, knocking through a thirty-five yard field goal as time expired in the half, making it 16-10 in favor of the Wave.

Things were looking really good for the Wave, early in the quarter, Trent Mackey blocked a punt and brought it back for a quick touchdown making it a 23-10 game. Then things went very bad for the Wave, surrendering on the following drive, a long shot from Ryan Aplin to Carlos McCants; sixty six yards for the score. 23-17. Things were still managable and they still held the lead. At least until they punted the ball away on their next drive leading to another Red Wolves score, a forty five yard run from Sirgregory Thornton on a pitch from Ryan Aplin. Missing the extra point tied the game up at 23 a piece.

Than the Wolves went for the kill, forcing a fumble on the kickoff, they had the ball in the redzone, and on a passing play, Ryan Aplin took off running the ball into the end zone from nine yards out for the go ahead score. 30-23.

The Wave could get nothing to work or be sustainable in the fourth, two interceptions and a fumble later and they still had a final shot with a little over a minute left before yielding in the red zone on the three. On the following play Sirgregory would be tackled in the end zone for a safety giving a slight tint of hope for the Wave who now were down 25-30. The hope wouldn't last long, they wouldn't manage to complete anything as time expired ending their eight game win streak and placing the Red Wolves in the drivers seat to win the Sunbelt. Now the Wave can only sit back and watch. Needing the Wolves to lose two games in conference in their next four attempts or the Wolves will claim the Sunbelt.

Ryan Griffin is expected to be ready for next weeks showdown for the Tiger Rag against the Lousiana State Tigers. Griffin has missed several weeks and is in his final year of football elgibility.

(New Orleans, Louisiana) - Head Coach of the 8-2 (6-1) Tulane Green Wave, Tyler Starks has said that he would be willing to listen to offers from other schools when his current contract expires at the end of the season. "I understand why I was only offered a one year contract but I have fully achieved my goals and taken this team to a level that the Athletic Director didn't even imagine was obtainable. Needless to say I feel somewhat disrespected at this point from the lack of support from fans and staff and will be willing to entertain possible head coaching offers for other programs." Spoke a somewhat disgruntled coach. Tulane has the largest stadium in the Sunbelt but posts some of the smallest crowds in the NCAA.

                  Tigers continue Tulanes skid

(Baton Rouge, Lousiana) - Once again the Tiger Rag will be sitting in Baton Rouge for another year thanks to a dominant and overwhelming performance by the Tigers who jumped out to a lead early and never let go. Mike VI must of brought some fear that kept the Wave on the edge as the Tigers improve to 9-1 and are now ranked eighth in the nation.

Gore scored after the teams traded possessions on a two yard scamper between guard and tackle and it would be until the end of the quarter that the scoreboard would change on a four yard pass from Mettenberger to Randle making it 14-0 and it would only get worse. Early int he second Mettenberger would throw his second touchdown toss of the night. A 49 yard bomb to Shepard to make it a 21-7 game early in the second.

Midway through the period the Green Wave would begin to drive on their rivals finally converting a score on a screen from Ryan Griffin to Orleans Darwa making it a 7-21 game. Utilizing their two minute offense late in the half, the Tigers would drive downfield setting up an Alleman twenty eight yard field goal extending their lead to 17 points. 7-24.

The rest of the game would seem like a battle of field goals, LSU coming out on their opening drive and moving downfield hitting a short twenty seven yard field goal. Midway through the third the Wave would finally respond with a solid drive that would end with a Santos 24 yard field goal bringing the game a little bit closer. 10-27.

Tulane would put up the first points of the fourth quarter on a long Santos field goal (47 yards) and the score would remain at 13-27 for a majority of the quarter until the Tigers started driving at the half way point getting downfield leading to an Alleman twenty one yard field goal 13-30. Tulane would not produce anything and

LSU would put a final score when running down the clock, instead of kneeling the ball on second and goal with fourty two seconds left, would run the ball up the middle leading to Gore getting his second touchdown rush of the game. Alleman missing the extra point in a slim sense of karma for running up the score. The scoreboard expired with the Tiger Rag staying for another year in Baton Rouge.

In his first game back, Ryan Griffin put up poor numbers, 15-27 for 142 yards and a touchdown and interception. He however was only sacked once easing the high amount of sacks the Wave have surrendered this season. Orleans Darkwa was held to a season low 24 yards on 13 carries (1.8 YPC) outcarried by Ryan Griffin who went 9 for 36 (4 YPC).

Hilltoppers shut out as the Wave improve to 9-3

(New Orleans, Lousiana) - The Green Wave finished their regular season just one win shy of hitting a dozen, and have two weeks to sit back and watch how Arkansas State pans out. The Red Wolves would have to drop two games for the Wave to win the conference, owning the head to head tie breaker is doing a lot for them.

The Wave did what they had to do, knocking off the Hilltoppers, 20-0 in a shut out victory, the first of Tyler Starks career and a slim hope of a solid bowl game to show off just how far the school had come. Ryan Griffin started off in a near robotic state, hitting receivers with deadly accuracy, moving the ball downfield primarily through the aerial attack, concluding the drive, hitting true freshman, Tim Robinson on a flat route for his first touchdown of his career.

The second quarter was more of the same with a punishing defense holding off every little Western Kentucky attempt at offense and the Wave offense moving the ball early with Ryan Griffin connecting with Ryan Grant for the final touchdown of the day, a three yard pass. Throughout the rest of the game, the Wave would knock in two more field goals. One just before the end of the half from 31 yards out and the other from twenty yards out before the end of the third quarter.

Fans for Western Kentucky have been through a lot of punishment through their early tenure in the Bowl-subdivision but none hurts more than nearly going winless (two more games left) and getting shut out, which realistically could happen again against Troy (9-2) next week. The Hilltoppers end their season against the Memphis Tigers (1-9) in what promises to be a true toliet bowl for the bottom two teams of the Sunbelt.

The Wave improve to 9-3 as their regular season ends. Trent Mackey is the leading candidate for Linebacker of the Year having put up freak numbers, yet that is all that can be expected when your the mainly only part of the defense that is consistent. He is a low level NFL prospect in his senior year. The Wave have had a freak season, allowing 40 sacks on their quarterbacks (third most in the NCAA) while adding 56 sacks on opposing quarterbacks (5th in the NCAA).

Defense holds out as Wave wins in defensive slugfest

(Mobile, Alabama) - Defensive squads are not what you would think of when it comes to Tulane, especially under Coach Tyler Starks but today they managed to hold a top twenty five squad that has a top thirty offense to a single touchdown and a two point conversion.

Coach starks squad has been dynamic throughout the season with the pass and run randomly coming to life in a huge way. Today was not one of those days, Orleans Darkwa whom has hung around the top of the NCAA and has surpassed a thousand yards this season was held to 31 yards on twelve carries a shell of his former self.

The Wave got onto the board first midway through the first with Ryan Griffin connecting with Saunders for a touchdown, oddly enough the Wave came out and converted the two point conversion. The Redhawks came out with a fast firing offense that would score from twenty-four yards out when Woods broke a big run, converting their own two point conversion on a short pass tying it at 8-8.

Oddly enough the game winning score came just after the two minute mark in the first half with Santos knocking in a thirty one yard field goal. Santos missed two more field goals later in the game not easing the tension. Neither team had much going for them, unable to do much of anything. The defenses held tough and the Redhawks would fall to the unranked Tulane Green Wave (10-3).

Despite the loss, the Hawks improve to 12-2 and moved up in the polls to #18. The Wave would be unranked at the end of the season with many analysts placing them around twenty-sixth, just three votes shy of being ranked after knocking off Miami.
