Yep. Would be nice teams were more aware of the quality of future drafts.

Wouldn't be particularly unrealistic either, it's not like college players don't get watched until their senior year or something.

So far so good for Cleveland. They were 2-0 before losing to the Chargers last week.

The Browns are in a 3-way tie in the AFC North at 2-1.

QB Blaine Giles is proving to be a solid QB in the early going. He has 8 TDs and 4 INTs with a 93 QB Rating. D'Cota Bell is backing up Trent Richardson, but has a TD (just like Richardson, 1 TD) and has 4.0 y/c to Richardson's 3.7.

On defense, the Browns' choice of Jeremy Whiteside is looking smart. He has 3 sacks. Arik Casher has an interception and a forced fumble.

Casher is the only outright starter as he's slotted as CB #2. The others are backups, but Whiteside got his chance when the starter, Vaughn Martin, went down with injury.

        Week 4 - Midweek News

        NCAA Football News:

Oklahoma HB Lucius Dufree debuted in a big way. He picked up 149 yards on the ground and had an 80-yd return for a touchdown.

Akron OLB James Hazzard was ejected for fighting. Sounds like the Raiders' kind of guy.

QB Denny Thompson ran 90 yards for a score despite losing his shoe midway through the play.

        NFL News:

        Transactions:
BUF: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick rejected his extension.
CLE: SS Laron Landry rejected his extension.
CAR: HB Jonathon Steward rejected his extension.
CIN: DB Brett Davis rejected his extension.
NE: HB Peyton Hills rejected his extension.
TB: DB Antrel Rolle rejected his extension.

        Injury Report:
NYG: DE Jason Pierre-Paul is back in action.
JAX: DT Brandon Mebane is out for several games with a broken toe.
CIN: QB Jake Locker is expected out for multiple games.

        Raiders News:

The Raiders looked strong at home once again and improved to 2-1 on the season. The offense remains the story in the early going, especially the passing attack. "Little D" is off to a fine start with 10 TD passes to just 3 INTs so far in his three starts, completing 61% of his passes.

Martens was beaten out of the AFC Offensive Player of the Week award, losing out to Miami's QB Robb Bell. Bell also threw for 4 TDs with 0 INTs, but had more yards, 379.

        Raiders' Next Game:
        Raiders (2-1) @ Chargers (2-1)

Second meeting with the Chargers already, and they'll be looking to avenge the 52-17 beating they took on Opening Weekend. Martens will have to find some way to get things going against a hostile crowd in a rivalry game...without Moore. "Little D" isn't one to back down, but with Caulder back, perhaps he'll try not to carry the game on his arm as much.

        Injury Report:

        Raiders Injury Report
        PosPlayerInjury Note
WRDenarius MooreOut 3 weeks (broken collarbone)

The Raiders get Julio Caulder and Jared Veldheer back this week, but trade them for Denarius Moore on the injury report. Moore is expected to miss 3 weeks.

        Roster News:

With Moore down, WR Akia Green is going to get the call. Green has the second most TDs on the team with four, and Lyle is going to bet on the budding chemistry between the two rookies. Sidney Rice moves up to the slot WR spot.

As expected, Veldheer and Caulder are the starters this week. Veldheer may be more important as Zac Foster has struggled and definitely needs more work.

The linebacker shakeup did indeed happen. Earl Williams will take Olsen's MLB #2 spot while Cedric Robins heads over to ROLB. Ash will come in on passing downs, according to coaches.

        Transactions:

Signed: LT Jared Veldheer, 4 yrs/$20 M extension.
Signed: LG Aaryn DePriest, 5 yrs/$40 M extension.
Signed: CB Brandon Madison, 5 yrs/$30 M extension.

        FMV: 81 to 83

        RG Cale Welch
        PBK: 89 to 90

        WR Denarius Moore
        STR: 55 to 56

        QB Danny Martens
        AWR: 65 to 67
        TGH: 72 to 74

        HB Taukei Griggs
        TRK: 70 to 72

        C Sergey Wainwright
        IBL: 84 to 85

        DE Keiwone Walters
        FMV: 69 to 71

        RT Gabe Carimi
        AWR: 84 to 85

        LB Davarius Bullock
        FMV: 62 to 64

        WR Akia Green
        CIT: 72 to 73

        FS Lamel Seawood
        PRC: 58 to 60

        DE Kooper Cosbert
        BSH: 83 to 84

        LB Bobby Wagner
        BSH: 83 to 84

        Scouting:

QB Denny Thompson got a look, but team scouts were not impressed. "He's a runner, an average thrower that has a strong arm and no idea how to use it. We've seen him not throw to wide open guys. If succeeds at the NFL level, I'll be shocked, " one scout spoke.

WR Nick Yates is solid all-around, nothing really stands out either way except for his jumping ability, which seems excellent. Only somewhat serious concern is his footwork. He knows the mechanics of the routes, but can he get his body to execute them?

CB A.J. Jones looks like a smart corner who has the speed and quick feet needed to stay with excellent route runners in man coverage. The only real concerns with him are his tackling, which is terrible, and has acceleration. He might get beat off the line or when dealing with any sort of stop-and-go type route.

WR Romonn Majors has only gotten some early looks, but scouts are thrilled about his ball skills. He has no fear about going up for the tough catch in traffic as well as the body control to make acrobatic catches. He definitely is earmarked for more observation.

Re: Rebuilding the Fear - Oakland Raiders M13 CCM

          Martens' Mental Toughness Shines
Linebackers Hold Game Close And Martens Rallies Offense.
          Raiders Sweep Bolts 29-15.

Nothing game easy for Danny Martens in this rematch with the Chargers. His receivers were doing him no favors, and the Chargers' pass rush wasn't letting up at all.

On top of that, Julio Caulder suffered another major injury in what is looking like a lost season for him at this rate.

But Little D kept fighting on, and Lyle's bet on the chemistry between Martens and WR Akia Green paid off.

The game was a hard-hitting affair. After Donald Butler took Caulder out with a serious hit to the chest, Chargers HB Xavier Slaughter tried to dance to escape the linebackers, but to no avail, and Bullock took him out with a serious injury.

With both team's watching their starting running backs carted off the field, it became a battle of the passing games.

The Raiders were losing this battle slowly but surely. Chargers QB Ken Marshall was getting himself in a groove, finding the open receivers and moving the ball. However, the Raiders' linebacker shake up must have fired them all up because they were unrelenting all game. Davarius Bullock continues to surprise with his pass rush capabilities. He was the key component of the pass rush.

Bullock picked up 3 sacks and one of them forced a fumble. Cedric Robins pounced on that fumble to give the Raiders their first turnover of the game. Martens fought to get the offense into FG range, and the Raiders did put up 3 points.

The pass rush didn't stop there. In the Chargers' two-minute drill, Bullock got a sack and that was followed by Wagner coming up the middle for his sack on the day.

At that point, the Raiders led 13-9. The offense continued to struggle and could do nothing - until the last possession of the third quarter. The team started getting into a little rhythm, using Martens' passes to help set up Taukei Griggs getting some running room. It worked well, producing a drive that extended into the fourth quarter, but by then, the Raiders were down 15-13, and the pass coverage continued to struggle.

But Martens' drive continued, taking 15 plays before Griggs pushed the ball across for the go-ahead score. The 2-pt conversion failed, but the Raiders had a 19-15 lead.

The relentless linebacker assault continued and Fred Marshall started to wane. Cedric Robins picked up a sack as Bullock collapsed the defensive left again, along with Cosbert. Marshall looked to escape, but Robins was there to bring down the QB.

Any completions were wrapped up by Wagner, who exceeded 10 tackles for the third straight game. He also forced a fumble, but the Chargers recovered.

Marshall's passes couldn't find their targets with the same efficiency, and a failed fourth-down conversion gave the Raiders the ball back. This time, Martens found Akia Green once more for his second touchdown. Green broke out in this game, not letting a couple drops early get him down.

The Raiders tacked on a FG to make it 29-15 with 2 minutes to go. Marshall started his two-minute drill and had the team moving. It looked like the coverage was starting to fall apart again and the pass rush wasn't quite getting there.

Marshall continued driving the ball, breaking into Raiders territory with about a minute left. He took a shot deep, but Branch was there to knock the ball down.

The pass rush was still closing in. They weren't getting the sack, but long patterns turned into time-eating under-10 yards dump offs and the LBs were tackling surely.

The Raiders were playing a zone blitz and then switched to a zero blitz. This confused Marshall as he thought he had Branch beat, but Branch had it all the way and snatched the pass (with a grin on his face from the look of the replays) to give the Raiders the win.

The interception was the only one Marshall threw in 40 pass attempts. He picked up 344 yards, but could not get the ball in the end zone. the red zone defense prevented any touchdowns from scoring.

"The percentage looks bad, but we'll take that zero in the red zone touchdowns allowed column any day, " coach Lyle spoke when asked about his teams' defense, "We'll also take this level of play from the linebackers any time. They really did the vast majority of the work on defense this week."

The Raiders were credited with 51 tackles in the game. The linebackers accounted for 34 of them, 67% of the team's tackles. One top of that, they combined for 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles with 1 fumble recovered. Those where also the entire team totals in sacks, fumbles, and recoveries. They also held the shifty Xavier Slaughter to 3.1 yards per carry before knocking him out, and his back up, Dominic King only picked up 3.8 yards per carry.

The win puts the Raiders at 3-1 and already having a sweep over a divisional foe. If there's a such thing as a big game in week 4, this may have been one of those.

            Week 5 - Midweek News

            NCAA Football News:

UCF WR J.J. Smoke returned an interception 102 yards for a score, making scouts love him even more.

Miss. Valley State RE K.C. Williams was given the nickname "Sweet BBQ" by his high school coach in Kansas City.

Michigan LT Otto Freese has looked bored while pushing around defenders.

Rutgers TE Ruckas Cage is a basketball player who turned to football. Scouts like the upside, but he needs a lot of technical work.

USC QB Rob Robonovich was benched for the first half for cutting class, but still nearly rallied his team from a 21-point deficit.

Notre Dame QB Denny Thompson rushed, passed and ran for a TD, showcasing his athleticism.

TEN: Beanie Wells is reported to be in practice this week.

Jets have started the season 4-0.
Chiefs have also started at 4-0.

            Raiders News

Raiders' Next Game: Raiders (3-1) @ Broncos (2-2)

The team finds themselves looking up at the 4-0 Chiefs and in second place in the division over the 2-2 Broncos and Chargers. WR Akia Green won AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

Danny Martens has been as good as could be hoped at the quarter-point. He's thrown 12 TDs against 3 INTs and over 1,000 yards already, completing 59% of his passes. He's on pace for 48 TDs, 12 INTs, and over 4,000 yards passing.

The running game has been a mess due to injuries as well as Caulder's horrible start. Partly due to injuries, but 3.2 yards per carry is not going to work and would be the lowest in his young career. Taukei Griggs looks to be asserting himself amidst constant trade rumors. He has a team-leading 3 TDs and 4.2 yards per carry.

WRs Green and Moore have both flourished under Martens' leadership so far. Moore is injured, but has 5 TD receptions. Green has the team lead with 6 TDs.

Defensively, Bobby Wagner is trying to make folks forget about Rolando McClain. Wagner has 44 tackles (11 per game average, pace for 176) and 5 sacks. Davarius Bullock has 6 sacks already.

            Scouting:

LT Otto Freese (Michigan) is definitely a strong young man, evident both on tape and from watching him during team practices. He seems to show solid, but not great, blocking technique, and sometimes, he just charges like a bull looking for something to hit instead of sticking to the blocking scheme. That freelance nature might be an issue at the next level.

HB Devin Gleaves (USF) looks like a back that's not afraid of contact, but he doesn't necessarily know how to use it to get out of tackles. This might be in part due to his questionable footwork and explosiveness. On the plus side, he has solid strength and is aware of what's happening on the field.

A closer look at Ohio product HB Joseph Shepard reveals his warts. He lacks strength, which might render his physical nature less effective, and he doesn't keep his focus well during games. That causes him to get sloppy sometimes, leading to problems.

              Raiders Rally Rookie
Martens Struggles But Defense and Run Game
Carry the Day. Raiders Over Broncos 28-9

Danny Martens had his second bad game of the season. He threw 4 INTs against just 1 TD, but the defense allowed just 9 points off those turnovers.

"I know what I did wrong. I was just too aggressive today. Games like this keep you humble, remind you that you are indeed throwing against an NFL defense every week. I didn't adjust when they started sitting against the deep pass and paid for it, " Martens spoke.

Brent Grimes got two interceptions against the rookie QB, one of which came in the end zone as Martens tried to hit Blackmon. Another came from another throw to Blackmon, but was rushed due to the pressure (Martens also made the tackle to prevent a pick-six, a play that saved 3 points), and the last was a great reaction play by a linebacker against a slant, also aimed at Blackmon.

"I must have been cursed today, " Blackmon laughed, "Really, three of the four interceptions were targeted at me?"

The other was a forced and hurried throw to Akia Green, which was the first of Grimes' two picks.

The passes that were on target mostly went to Akia Green, who seems to be taking on the Denarius Moore-or-bust role on offense. Green caught 10 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

While the offense struggled in the second half due to the turnovers, the rushing game did have it together all day. Taukei Griggs made a strong impression with 120 yards and 2 scores. He also took a screen pass for 56 yards, and was just one man away from a receiving touchdown. Instead, he got the 2nd of his rushing TDs, powering forward six yards for the score. Steven Grant was also strong with his touches, picking up 5 yards per carry and a touchdown of his own.

Defensively, the linebackers were again fired up. Bullock and Wagner forced fumbles in the first half, both of which recovered by Suh. Unfortunately, Suh had to leave the game after the second recovery as he strained his back and was removed for precautionary purposes.

In the second half, Bullock got his pass rush going, picking up 3 sacks and having some serious pressure on other occasions. Cedric Robins also had some hits on the QB. Wagner was held out of the sacks column, but did record a team-leading 9 tackles and nearly came away with an interception.

The Broncos offense couldn't do anything all game. Freeman threw an interception on the one pass he attacked Madison with. One throw, one INT. That's why teams avoid Madison. That pass was the only one he saw towards him for the rest of the game.

"It gets lonely over here when no one is trying to challenge you. You don't get to hit, your hands don't get to feel the ball, " Madison spoke.

The corner that saw a lot of action was Shaquille Carillon. Once again, the opposing offense singled him out, and this time he couldn't come through. He was late on his reactions all day, and the one deflect he did make was an underthrown pass. He was beat.

Otherwise, the Raiders defense played about as well as you can expect. Run game and defense - perhaps things are settling back in to the usual way the Raiders play.

The Chiefs fell from the ranks of the unbeaten and into a tie for first place. The Raiders have won their last three, and would like nothing more to take 1st place on the back of their archrival.

There's no plans to scale back the offense on the heels of Martens' four interceptions last week. "He's still making good throws. He's completing passes and making plays. Experience is the only way he'll learn when to pull it in some, " coach Lyle spoke.

Cedric Robins is expected out a few weeks with his broken jaw. Suh's back injury cleared up and was nothing major, so he's expected to play this week. Moore is on track to return next week.

Martens is looking pretty good so far, despite the off game or two. Really looking forward to the offseason, as this is one of my favorite drafts in the game. I know how much you can't wait for Maeweather, but I would HIGHLY suggest doing what you can to try and swing a deal to get a top pick for JJ Smoke. In my opinion, possibly the best defensive player in the Madden drafts. His starting stats are just unreal.

Re: Smoke - It's not out of the question.

If I can find a replacement for Griggs, he'd probably be gone because teams offer 1sts for him. That would give me another "spare" first to a) get lucky and it's a top pick, or b) deal off and get BOTH Smoke and Maeweather.

Re: Martens - Yeah, I'm liking this kid. His MAC is up close to Schumacher's so his S/M/D is arguably better than his now. It's the AWR and probably getting TOO aggressive since he's got that great DAC. Still have to pick spots.

Just wanted to say I agree on the JJ Smoke part. He is just so freaking good out the gate. Absolutely shuts down half the field. If its feasible make it happen.

"Swap of Griggs-es" Nets Fifth 1st Round Pick in
                        Upcoming Draft.

The Taukei Griggs trade saga ended with him and a 2019 3rd round pick moving to the 49ers to complement B.J. Graves in the backfield, and getting a 1st round pick in the coming draft, the 5th for the team. The team took a scrub HB to keep the roster size limit from getting in the way.

Meanwhile, Bull Griggs is brought in from the Bengals along with a 6th and 7th round pick in the coming draft. The Raiders sent one of their two 3rd round picks in the coming draft and a 4th in next year's draft, which is down to just 4 picks for the team. The same scrub was moved to Cincy for the same reason as he was taken from the 49ers.

Scouts love what Bull Griggs could do for the team, should he fit into the offense as well as most scouting reports indicate. His consensus grade is a 91 when evaluated to the Raiders power run scheme. The knock on him is his upside, or rather his lack of it.

"He's a hard-working, blue-collar type guy. An 'effort guy' in the vernacular. These types of players tend not to reach far in terms of projections, but it looks like in Bull's case, he just developed fully in college. There's not much he needs to really work on, so the 'low ceiling' might not be any issue at all in this case, " a league scout commented.

That theory may hold true considering he's graded about as well, if not better, than Caulder in many areas despite the fact that Caulder has some NFL experience under his belt.

Bull will make his Raiders debut against the Chiefs this week. Steven Grant will be the #2 HB.

The Bengals are the team that might be trying to pull something similar to the Raiders - stockpiling picks for the coming draft, although spread through more rounds. The Bengals have two picks in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th rounds in the coming draft.

Some analysts wonder if the 49ers will regret taking Taukei Griggs for a 1st round pick, one of the two they had for the coming draft. The 49ers issued a statement saying that they "liked what Taukei brings to the backfield" and that "a draft pick is a crap shoot, plus we still have a presence in the first round to make a move - either up or down - as needed".

                          Patrick's Playhouse
Patrick Peterson Stars as Raiders Destroy
Rivals to Take 1st Place, 48-3.

A lot of things went right for the Raiders this week. The defense was especially fired up as they forced 6 takeaways and the offense didn't give up the ball once.

Leading that turnover barrage was Patrick Peterson. The often-attacked corner made the offense pay with 2 INTs, one of which going all the way back for a touchdown.

Peterson is feast or famine sometimes. Today, it was a buffet of picks and scores.

Then the special teams got involved. Davarius Bullock laid a big hit on ex-Raider LaRod Stephens-Howling, and Stephens-Howling did what he does best - fumble. Rookie corner Lorenzo Hopkins pounced on the ball and ran it in for a score.

That occurred immediately following Patrick Peterson taking a kickoff the distance for his second TD of the day.

Coach Lyle won't begrudge Peterson his touches on kickoffs anytime soon.

Another fumble came from rookie LB Earl Williams, also on kick coverage, and the victim was Stephens-Howling once again. This time, Shaquille Carillon recovered the fumble.

Tyvon Branch's nose for takeaways also was active. He picked off a pass early in the game and laid out Jamaal Charles after a reception. Bullock recovered the fumble, adding to his very nice day that included 3 sacks.

Injuries were the only bad things that happened. Jake Olsen had to come in for K.J. Wright, and managed to get a sack in the 4th quarter on a Nickle Prowl blitz. Olsen came untouched and made the play.

The other injury was more of a scare. Rookie Danny Martens went down on a very questionable hit. Of course, Oakland media was questioning why Martens was still in the game. Martens defended his coach.

"I wanted to stay in. I mean, so what if we have a big lead. That doesn't mean you stop playing football or stop wanting to be in the game. Injuries happen, " Martens spoke.

"Little D is a competitor, so it's not surprising he refused to come out. I think he'll learn that discretion is sometimes the better part of valor, but that's a lesson a lot of talented and eager rookies have to learn about this league, " Mark Schlereth commented.

Wade Schumacher came in, and, almost in support of Martens' competitiveness, came out throwing. He ended up throwing the lone passing TD for the Raiders - hitting WR Akia Green on a 17-yard post route.

"Knew we had it as soon as the play began. He [Green] and I both had the same eyes, easy score, " Schumacher spoke.

Martens will be evaluated during the week. Only news from Raiders camp is that it's a shoulder injury and Martens did not appear to be in a lot of pain.

Before leaving with the injury, Martens seemed more conservative than usual. Perhaps the rainy conditions made him hold back. He was accurate, completing 69% of his passes with no interceptions, but he produced no touchdowns and just 6.7 yards per attempt.

Bull Griggs surprised with his explosiveness as well in his Raiders debut. His first run went for 2 yards. The next? 39 yards and a touchdown.

Bull's second rush for the Raiders displayed surprising burst for the score.

He ended up with 20 carries for 112 yards and 2 TDs. Steven Grant got going as well to help out with 13 carries and 66 yards.

Janikowski missed 2 FGs for the first time in quite a while. His slow start has been concerning.

Bobby Wagner led the defense with 14 tackles. Brandon Madison was thrown at 1 time, and the pass was incomplete. He continues to shutdown his side of the field.

                            Week 7 - Midweek News

                            NCAA Football News:

Rutgers TE Ruckus Cage caught just one pass, and it was work for him to get that reception, but it came in the end zone and produced the game winning score.

                            NFL News:

QB Aaron Rodgers is now 9th in passing TDs in a career.

HB Steven Jackson passed Walter Payton in career rushing yards.

QB Ben Rothlisberger is now 8th in passing TDs all-time. He also moved past Vinny Testaverde in passing yards.

Jets remain perfect and stand at 5-0.

The Browns made a lot of noise last off-season and are, so far, proving the moves worthwhile. They are at 4-2.

                            Raiders News

The Raiders won their 4th straight game and took sole control of 1st place by whipping the rival Chiefs. The team is 5-1 and firing on all cylinders right now. A lot of football left, so the team has to stay focused.

Raiders' Next Game: Bengals (3-2) @ Raiders (5-1)

WR Denarius Moore is ready to go. Will be interesting to see how he works in with Green coming alive.

Raiders can breathe. Danny Martens' injury is very minor and is being held out for next week's game largely for precautionary reasons.

                            Roster News

Wade Schumacher will start at quarterback for this week's game against the Bengals.

Coach Lyle is going to ride the hot hand and leave Akia Green as #1 WR for this week's game. Denarius Moore will be #2 with Blackmon #3. This move comes as a surprise to both Green and Moore, according to some reports.

Jake Olsen will start at ROLB over Tevin Ash. Ash continues to see time as a pass rush specialist and on special teams, if he sees the field at all.

CB Lorenzo Hopkins looked strong is his debut and will start again this week at nickle corner.

                            ELU: 75 to 76

                            Scouting:

Ohio halfback Joseph Shepard got more attention from scouts after uncovering his interesting mixture of running over and around defenders. They noticed he has a good sense for protecting the football with his natural running style, though better awareness of when to cover up in traffic would be nice.

West New Mexico center Patrick Seaver won't be on the team's target list. Everything looked fine about him...except his conditioning. He tires much too quickly for an offensive lineman.

DT Greg Haggins (USF) has some interest among team scouts because of his size. He would make a solid backup at nose tackle. He's very strong and delivers a punishing tackle. Biggest concern is his ability to fight through double-teams. Does he just occupy space or can he win in spite of a double-team? That's what scouts are unsure of.

DT Omari Forest out of East Carolina might be a better target, though he's used to playing a 4-3 scheme. He plays like a nose tackle and should be able to handle the 1-technique as well as he fights through blocks well. Issue for him is lateral movement and change of direction. He may penetrate, and that's always good, but if the HB or QB slides around to find space, can Forest keep up?

One might think Kendle Maeweather is perfect with all the fawning done around him in the Raiders' war room. However, there is one glitch in his game - he's atrocious in coverage. "He looks lost in either man or zone coverage. Honestly, I like our Bobby Wagner better, though I better not say that too loudly, " one scout spoke.

I dont think you should give up on seaver because of his stamina as far as i remember he is the only center worth taking in that draft and stamina is very chepa to improve

Bengals, 17-15, for 5th Straight Win

Wade Schumacher reminded the organization why they drafted Martens. It was the typical mixed bag and inconsistency from the quarterback. He threw a nice pass to Akia Green for a touchdown and then threw two ugly interceptions, one on a deep pass that Martens likely would have completed.

The Bengals defense didn't help matters any by flustering Schumacher with pressure all game long. They picked up four sacks against Schumacher and forced a fumble that the Raiders were able to recover.

Bull Griggs got off to a slow start, but the team stuck with him, and he picked up the pace later in the game. In the fourth quarter, Griggs keyed a drive that he would finish off himself to give the Raiders a 17-8 lead. That TD ended up being the winning score.

The "eight" came from a safety on a weird play. Alfred Morris, the Bengals' HB, fumbled the ball. The ball bounced forward before getting scooped up by Olsen. The linebacker then fell into the end zone after contact, but was not awarded forward progress. The Bengals were awarded two points after losing a turnover.

"That's the oddest way you'll see the offense score in a while. A fumble for two points, " coach Lyle shook his head.

Morris was tough on ball carriers for much of the game, but slowed down somewhat late. He also fumbled twice, both of which were recovered by the Raiders.

Jake Locker wasn't brilliant, but he completed passes and made just one mistake on a throw towards Peterson, who came down with another interception. This game after the Raiders swapped Madison and Peterson since Locker was going after Green with Peterson covering. After the switch, A.J. Green caught one more pass, but it was against zone coverage.

"I don't know why they think they can beat me, " Peterson said, "But keep it coming. I'd love to get a dozen or more picks this year."

That pass is where the Bengals got their touchdown. Locker was working late in the game in the hurry-up offense and eventually found Green from inside the five for the score. Rookie LB Earl Williams was close on coverage, but a step late.

The Raiders recovered the onside kick to seal the game.

"This are the kind of games you have to find ways to pull out, " Moore, who had just 2 catches commented, "Thankfully, our defense did enough for most of the game to keep us ahead until we could get a big enough lead."

The defense tallied up six sacks and three turnovers as they continue to play excellent football. The linebackers didn't have the best day, but were able to account for four of the six sacks. Peterson also forced a fumble to go with his interception.

The Raiders have to be glad that Martens is coming back next week if this is still the usual effort from Schumacher. The offense produced just 227 offensive yards on the day and held the ball just 22 minutes.
