Vandals gain first verbal commitment of the year with their own HHH

Hogan Hildebrand, a JUCO college offensive lineman originally from Pullman, WA
playing his junior college football at Mesa CC in Arizona, has committed to join the
2017 Idaho Vandals recruiting class. He is the first commit to give verbal assurances
that he will attend school in Moscow next season and play for the Vandals.

Hildebrand is 6'2", 288 lbs and slated to play guard, where he played for the
Thunderbirds of the Western States Football League and was said to be one of the
most dominant forces any scout has ever witnessed on field.

"He is mean. I haven't met him and maybe he's a nice guy, but that is one bad
freaking dude on the football field," said an anonymous scout.

Hildebrand shares a commonality with the fictional HHH of wrestling fame. Although,
unlike the famous HHH, Hildebrand comes across his initials naturally. Stay tuned to
see if Hogan Hutchins Hildebrand can take the offensive line to the next level when
he straps it on for the Vandals next season.

Vandals have been remarkably injury free in 2017

The concussion sustained by Richard Montgomery does not appear to be a long-term
thing. As it would happen, Montgomery's concussion was deemed minor and he is
expected to play minutes next week when the Vandals travel to New Mexico to play
      the Lobos.

According to Clark, Montgomery likely will not start.

"'We're going to work him into the game slowly next week and make sure that he is
comfortable and functioning normally on the field. In this day and age, we simply
have to be careful. He's passed our protocols and will see action. That much is for
      sure," said Clark.

Other than the injury to Montgomery, there have been no missed games due to
injury - only a few missed plays here and there. Clark would not comment on the
good fortune of his team in this department, just giving a knowing nod. Somebody
      must be superstitious.

Definitely have to be happy with the way the offense has started this season. The defense hasn't been awful, just need to figure out how to slow down some of the air raid attacks.

Be honest -- were you a little disappointed to go beat the #1 Buckeyes in the Horseshoe? Sometimes in these rebuilding dynasties you schedule games like that to see where you are at and the CPU plays stupid/terrible so you win. It seemed like a pretty good game though, so just wanted to ask what you thought.

Still have several tests on the schedule in Mountain West play, so not ready to crown you yet, but you can definitely tell the Vandals have more talent throughout. Like you said, sometimes the key is just having not terrible players as backups so you don't get shredded every time someone gets hurt, tired, etc.

Wow, what a great win. My boy Lawson got a little sloppy there on the stat sheet but hey, you guys got the W.

I was stunned the game was that close, but when it comes to rivalry games...sometimes it be's like that!

yeah I was hoping he would have a season with super low INT numbers. I just got greedy! LOL. But they were really, really good in their deep pass coverages, we had to take them apart with other things.

The game felt like a game that I might give away to an inferior team, only in reverse. They made mistakes every time they were ready to take control of the game back. To answer your question yes, I am disappointed. Mostly because I don't like how the rating system reacts to a win like this. I think that in real life, if Ohio (lol) lost to a team of our caliber (in the game) - Maybe somebody like SDSU last year or what have you - The media outlets would pan Ohio State because they lost and it would be difficult for them to get respect in the rankings right away. How this game does it is that Ohio State drops a few spots but it goes WOW this Idaho team is now for real! and puts us right at the damn top. I feel like the game is always trying its hardest to give the user a NC berth and I hate that. I want realism with the way they rank the user teams. That's why such a win can be disappointing. as long as you don't beat OSU, you can have all the 10-11 win seasons you want and you're probably not going to be in the BCS game, but beat them and suddenly it's hard to get out of it.

Very true. The MW games are always pretty tough on us for the most part. And there's still the specter of freaking Fresno.

Yep true. I'm disappointed about those picks but he came through for us. I won't mind losing a game or two this year but damnit, I didn't want to lose that one! And I'm a Coug!

                    Week 7 Update

                    #1 Michigan wins another one

Michigan (6-0) beat the Illini 40-28 to stay at the front in what has been a highly
disappointing season for the top teams, all of which now have at least one loss.
Michigan has had two close games this year, both against ranked teams. Against the
Illini, Heisman candidate Fernandez scored three touchdowns on keepers in the first
20 minutes of the game, and an INT returned for a touchdown also contributed to a
40-0 halftime lead before the Illini shut them out in the second half but still came
                    nowhere near a victory.

The surprise contenders: Idaho, Rutgers, and Boston College

Teams that don't lose simply make their way to the top of the rankings in NCAA 14
and that is no secret. Therefore, it's always fun to look and see which teams in the
Top 25 or outside the Top 25 have a chance at going undefeated. Last week, Rutgers
hammered the #22 Wisconsin Badgers 30-3 in a major surprise. Boston College was
less convincing in a 31-24 victory against Virginia.

Lawson's #s were solid but not spectacular, and he was about as efficient as you'd want to see in those rainy conditions. Love the shot of Coach Clark. You guys are really taking care of business this season, week-in and week-out.

It'll be interesting to see if the Vandals can maintain their high ranking as we turn to the second half of the season.

In certain games it seems like they did a really good job with the weather conditions affecting a game, in others it doesn't as much. This was one of those games where it felt like if we pressed for big plays turnovers were definitely going to happen.

Nice day for him for sure. He has improved a bit this season. For one thing I'm not trying to be as fancy with him. yeah he's more speedy and shifty than the other runners we had starting like Bully. But sometimes you still have to take 4 yards and be happy with it. Because that's definitely all he's getting sometimes lol. Thanks Geezy.
