Re: We have a football team too... Guru's UConn Huskies (NCAA 14)

I literally laughed out loud when I read the "Fighting Paterno's" that was great. Great way to end a good season too, the game sounds like it was pretty exciting even with the little amount of points in the second half.

Congrats to Maxy on being nominated to the All AAC team. What was his final stat line for his senior season?

      LB Jefferson Ashiru

(Yes, I promise I'll get this done today. Record book on P.1 mostly updated, I'm working on career records as we speak.)

Haha. I read a Paterno biography about 2 months ago, and having friends who are PSU fans/alums I have nothing but respect for him and the program as a whole. I mean, he is Penn State football, after all.

Yeah, his second half of the season was really good, did just about all the talking. Good enough to get him into the UConn Hall of Fame, so there's another plus. Really going to miss him next year, for sure.

        Diaco signs early extension

Have no fear, UConn is here. With their wallets.

A.D. Warde Manuel has confirmed that coach Bob Diaco has been signed to an early 5 year, $13 million extension that will keep him on the sidelines in East Hartford until at least 2023. He reportedly can opt out of his deal in 2019, though this has not been confirmed or denied.

The deal had been in the works for a while, as Diaco was eligible for a 2 year extension after 2015, however he indicated his wish to negotiate for a longer amount of time.

He is slated to make $1.2 million in 2016 after making around $1.15 mil in 2015, and will make up to $3 million a year before the end of his deal.

In addition to his guaranteed money, Diaco will receive a $200,000 bonus if UConn wins the American, a $300,000 bonus if UConn gets to the College Football Playoff, and a cool $500,000 if UConn wins the national championship.

Congrats to Diaco. Time to win the AAC.

Tulane's Coach Willingham is due for a pay raise too, it seems.

OC Cummings becomes head coach at Western Michigan

            We hardly knew ye...

Mike Cummings, only at UConn for 2 seasons as the offensive coordinator (spent the previous 4 at Central Michigan), is already out the door, having accepted Western Michigan's vacant head coaching position. Former Broncos coach P.J. Fleck moved laterally to Northern Illinois to replace "one and done" coach Lorenzo Ward.

Cummings led UConn to having one of the top offenses in the nation behind QB Bryant Shirreffs and RB Max DeLorenzo, who broke out as an offensive star in his final season. Shirreffs threw for 3300 yards and DeLorenzo broke 1100, as the Huskies went 8-5 in 2015.

Cummings' departure brings forth many questions. We all can assume that UConn will continue to play well on that front next year (we hope), but who replaces Cummings? The A.D. department has not disclosed any information at this time, though some speculation leads to guys like former Kansas headman Mark Mangino or newly fired South Alabama coach Joey Jones, among others.

An announcement on a replacement is expected within the next 2 weeks.

Which (almost) brings us to the coaching carousel, and I am frankly very excited. I have figured out jobs for our 5 create-a-coaches based on hometown/school of interest, alma mater (for some) or for other reasons, but I have not created them yet (I will do so tonight).

Though none are head coach positions, (my intent; I want us to climb the ladder and replace fake coaches ONLY) some of you (especially ksw) have some very...intriguing...jobs.

That's fine. As long as OSU's my alma mater I'm alright.

If you haven't done so yet, I'd like to be an offensive coordinator. My offensive philosophy is the spread option. 35/65 in favor of the run. Fairly aggressive playcaller.

I'm an offensive guy by choice too. I use a custom playbook so I'm not sure which default one to tell you, maybe power run? I like to run the ball in a 2:1 ratio spread between a couple backs. I mostly stay under center in an I or offset I form. Maybe like Alabama or Stanford books?

I had both of you slotted as OC's because of (ksw) your awesome created playbook which I will try to replicate for you (will really help with the team you have), and (Po1soNNN) the fact you've never scored less than 50 a game. Or allowed less than 50 haha.

I had you slotted for an OC spot as well (everyone is an OC actually), and I figured you'd run Central Michigan playbooks (at least on defense). Thanks!

I assume you're referring to my Tulane spread option playbook and not the Three Back Offense I recently created? I use the Tulane book a lot more (It's my favorite), but I'm okay with my created coach using either playbook.

You didn't have to recreate it but thanks for tryin', haha.

I've honestly never used the CMU offensive book in game. If you want to set my defensive book to the default 4-3 that's what I run. But it's completely up to you how much effort you want to put into it. It's awesome enough that you're even putting our coaches in your dynasty

                          Guru's Thoughts:

                          - Purdue is a coaching graveyard. Joe Tiller feels like a millennium ago.

                          - Bowling Green made a great hire with Noel Mazzone. BGSU should top the MAC once again.

                          - Nebraska is looking to win right now. Scott Frost is the hottest coach in the land. Good hire.

                          - Surprised South Carolina didn't attack Steve Spurrier Jr. Sanders is still a good hire though.

                          - Kevin Sumlin went from genius to jerk real fast without Manziel. Doubt A&M misses him too much.

                          - VA Tech looks a whole lot different with Kiffin on the sidelines, not Beamer.

                          kswgrad2012

                          Name: Kaelyn Willingham
                          Position: Rice OC
                          Offensive Playbook: Spread Option
                          Defensive Playbook: 4-3
                          Alma Mater: Ohio State
                          Age: 31
Coaching Style: Run, and run some more. Innovative coach who uses the option and pistol forms in his sets. Likes the challenge of academic universities, and getting folks to Rice can sometimes be a challenge. But Willingham is a great recruiter, and he should have no problems in Texas.

What to expect in 2016: Rice has, get this, 5 quick tailbacks above 80 overall (3 seniors, a junior and a sophomore), and a new scrambling QB in sophomore Jeremy Jones. Match made in heaven? I think so. With a decent line (no one below 75 ovr), and a capable receiving group, Rice could surprise after a few down seasons. Especially with Sonny Dy.kes' seat warming up after only a year, there is a major sense of urgency in Owl country.

                          Po1soNNN

                          Name: Sam Freday
                          Position: Bowling Green OC
Offensive Playbook: Run and Shoot (with a little more running)
                          Defensive Playbook: 3-4
                          Alma Mater: Connecticut
                          Age: 33
Coaching Style: Unlike Willingham, Freday has a tendency to air it out a little more. However, he likes to run as well, making for a potential explosive combination when in the right hands. A clear offensive guru. With BGSU on a major upturn and another potential one and done head coaching candidate (Noel Mazzone), if Freday performs well he could be jumping ship for a big school very soon.

What to expect in 2016: BGSU graduates electric Matt Johnson at QB, so seniors James Knapke or former Texas Tech transfer Clayton Nicholas will be the next man up. Redshirt freshman Chris Williams, a scrambler, may challenge as well, seeing as how Freday loves dual threats. BGSU also loses RB Travis Greene, a 2nd round draft pick, but they don't have a real quality replacement. However, the Falcons have rising star Roger Lewis, Ronnie Moore and Gehrig Dieter to form a rather formidable receiving group.

                          whughes

                          Name: Max Crenshaw
                          Position: Central Michigan OC
                          Offensive Playbook: Alabama/I-Form/2-back
                          Defensive Playbook: Central Michigan's D (looks like a 4-2-5)
                          Alma Mater: Central Michigan
                          Age: 35
Coaching Style: Run, and run some more. Even more than Willingham. Bit of a laid back coach, and intent on

What to expect in 2016: CMU head coach Dan Enos is on the hot seat. If Crenshaw's O plays well and CMU has a losing record, he could be in line for the promotion. But who knows. CMU has a clear star QB in Cooper Rush, but a poor group of receivers. Seniors Maurice Shoemaker-Gilmore and Martez Walker should get a lot of touches in 2016. Sophomore Devon Spalding is right behind them and will play this year before taking the reins next year.

                          mattynokes

                          Name: Brian Woodard
                          Position: Ohio OC
                          Offensive Playbook: Pro (run preference)
                          Defensive Playbook: 4-3 (conservative)
                          Alma Mater: Louisville
                          Age: 42
Coaching Style: Another run-friendly coordinator who just may be in the wrong situation. A former college QB, Woodard is an intriguing prospect. His playbooks seem very basic, yet can overpower his opponents on the sideline. Having played the game in the NFL in the late '90s, he knows his way around.

What to expect in 2016: Ohio has a rising star in sophomore QB Joey Duckworth, more of a pocket passer to fit Woodard's style. Their veteran receiving stable is solid, but unspectacular. However, they have a strong chance to bust out of the gates this season and play really well. Junior Dorian Brown is an able tailback, but there is nothing behind him as true freshmen Brandon Harris, Ron Cox and Kevin Lundy will fight for time. None are very good. I think the team is still a year away, but could surprise right now if Duckworth plays well.

                          thesportsguru11

                          Name: Quinn Shea
                          Position: Marshall OC
Offensive Playbook: Spread Option (with pistol and shotgun elements)
                          Defensive Playbook: 3-3-5
                          Alma Mater: Boston College
                          Age: 24
Coaching Style: Very much from this generation, Shea is a pass first coordinator with a funky defense to go with it should he land a head coaching job. Very high energy, and it translates on the field. Not only that, but he is a very smart kid who does his homework each week.

What to expect in 2016: One-time Miami Hurricane QB Kevin Olsen is finally eligible, and with 2 years, he could be great. Senior Gunnar Holcombe and sophomore Cole Garvin are able backups. Tailback Tony Pittman is a power back Shea likes a lot, and backup Brandon Byrd is just as good. Angelo Jean-Louis is ready to break out in 2016, and guys like Hyleck Foster, Justin Hunt, Josh Knight, Deon-Tay McManus and Emanuel Beal are very good receivers. 2nd year freshman Michael Moody is ready to contribute as well. The line may be an issue going forward, and Shea will have to address that immediately.

You didn't have to recreate it but thanks for tryin', haha.
Yeah, the Tulane spread. If I have a few minutes I'd love to try to get at least a couple of the formations into the playbook that you described when you discussed the formations a few seasons back. We'll see how it goes.

Loving it. My top job choice at HC is BG though. Oh well, I'll see how it goes. IRL, I really like Gehrig Dieter. He reminds me a lot of Ryan Burbrink.

Too bad there's no Zach Long to fill Johnson's spot at QB.

Looking forward to this upcoming season. Not to take away from the focus of this dynasty in UConn but there's a lot of competition there in the MAC with 3 of us starting there

UConn signing day uneventful, end with 68th best class

We already knew the contents (mostly) of UConn's class of 2016 headed into signing day and almost nothing changed after signing day concluded. Local guard Josh Parrish did and still does head the class, and he could start immediately anywhere on the line.

Other notable prospects include JUCO transfers Quintin Harrell (defensive end) and Travis Lumpkin at corner. Both may be able to play immediately.

Athlete Jeff McNeal, and receivers Rashad Harris and Kevin Lacey (late commits; possession receivers) also have lots of potential. Coach Diaco has already said McNeal will play running back.

Other than that, there isn't a lot to say, as we already know mostly everyone else. The Huskies have the 68th best class in the nation this year.

Elsewhere in the nation, Alabama again has the nation's top class, hauling in 2 5* players and 10 4* guys. Bama also snagged the top prospect in the nation, athlete Antonio Wilson.
