Week 5 In Review
Down goes the reigning national champions sends them tumbling down the bottom of the rankings, their hopes of repeating are hanging on by a thread after a three point loss to the SMU Mustangs. The Fighting Irish spent the season playing down to their competition, and that didn't change when the unranked Syracuse Orange took care of the Fighting Irish by a late touchdown to put them away for good. Virginia Tech takes care of the Georgia Bulldogs, ending their undefeated season with a scoring spree to close out the game. Penn State might just be a little better than expected after upsetting the Northwestern Wildcats.
In the TCU game, the SMU Mustangs simply outright controlled this one, despite being two touchdown underdogs, the Mustangs dominated the time of possession battle and limited the offenses chances by limiting their time on the field, and in doing so escape with a victory in overtime to claim victory.
The Fighting Irish dropped an egg against the Orange, who would score 14 unanswered after falling behind 21-10 late in the third quarter, the Fighting Irish defense just couldn't keep it going and ended up falling. The Orange mustered out a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to stun the top ranked team in the country. The Irish fall 13 spots this week, out pacing the Horned Frogs 12 spot fall.
The Georgia Bulldogs were knocked off the ranks of the unbeaten by the Virginia Tech Hokies. The Hokies have lived in the bottom part of the rankings and just outside of the rankings in recent years. The Bulldogs ground attack was ineffective and the Hokies routed the 'Dawgs.
Oregon and Penn State both notch quality wins, with Oregon knocking the Trojans from the polls with their victory by 21, impressively routing the Trojans who were helpless to stem the tide. Penn State came in a ten point underdog against the Wildcats who were on a tear to open the season. It didn't last long for the Wildcats, who fell to the undefeated Nittany Lions.
Brigham Young continues their regular season winning streak which has now transcended three seasons, the Cougars are a program establishing themselves as a force, and are poised to make another attempt at a national title game.

The defense did a brilliant job setting the Zips up, the Zips scored 21 of their 28 off of turnovers and did so to claim a commanding victory over a team that some had penciled in as the favorite to win the West admist the early struggles posed by the Hoosiers.
The Zips offense didn't yield to the clock at all, with a 13-0 lead heading into the late moments of the fourth quarter, the offense continued to attack and on third and goal after a forced fumble (on a sack, Zach Terrell would be stripped) the Zips Chandler Kincade sent a beautiful pass to Jeff Parker for the senior's only touchdown on the after noon.

They put up a huge fight to the Akron Zips as well but what surprised some was how well the defense held up, at least until the clutch time rolled around and the Akron Zips stepped up to claim victory past the Toledo Rockets, by scoring in the final second and being the lone team to get on the scoreboard in overtime.
On that drive, a miscommunication allowed a fourth down completion to go for 56 yards and put them in field goal range, than on first down, the read option saw Woodard skirt off tackle for a touchdown on a 23 yard carry and suddenly with thirty seconds left, the Rockets who would complete a pass to convert the two points, were up 28-20 on the Zips.
